00:00What do you think the chances would be that this guy could actually turn into a tiger?
00:03Here's your look at the McFarland toys, DC Direct, the new 52 Bronze Tiger.
00:21Guided by his personal code, Benjamin Turner operates on both sides of the law.
00:25Working with the Suicide Squad and Batman as both a source of information on the mercenary world and a potent
00:29ally in battle.
00:31I know every time Turner uses his talisman, he burns a piece of his soul.
00:34Luckily, though, for getting this figure, I didn't burn any of my budget.
00:37I'd like to thank the folks over at McFarland Toys that did provide this sample.
00:41Before, though, maybe we look at the Bronze Tiger figure.
00:43Let's grab the tape measure as we always do and see how tall he's actually going to stand.
00:46Then we'll bring in some other examples of figures that you may want to display along with the Bronze Tiger.
00:51For how tall he stands, I'm clocking this guy being about six and three-quarters of an inch in height.
00:57That's going to work out to be a figure that's 17 and a half centimeters tall.
01:00I know Bronze Tiger has worked with a Batman, so let's bring in a Batman.
01:04One of my favorites, though, I'm going to bring in this guy right here.
01:06Display-wise, he's about the same size as this Batman here.
01:10He also has aligned himself at one point, several times, actually, with the Suicide Squad.
01:14So let's bring in some examples.
01:15Not knocking over Bronze Tiger.
01:17Let's bring in Killer Croc right here.
01:19He's a little loose in the legs.
01:21He's also quite tall, too.
01:22Let's also bring in Deadshot.
01:24And why not?
01:25Here's also what the figure looks like with Captain Boomerang.
01:27I like a Boomerang.
01:28I can see the display stands and the trading cards have come back.
01:31Well, they never really went away in the first place.
01:32Generally, though, with DC Multiverse figures, the tried-and-true go-to always is that you get yourself a display
01:37stand.
01:38And you also get yourself a trading card.
01:40In the way, though, of the display stand, it's also here molded all in circular black plastic with the DC
01:45Classic logo down below here.
01:46And a peg that can plug into either one of Bronze Tiger's boots.
01:51How many times I'm sure you guys have seen these in the reviews.
01:53Does the format, though, of these reviews start to get a little boring after a while?
01:57The fact that we always seem to start them, though, looking at the display stands.
02:00Then we jump over to the trading card.
02:01Then, of course, we look at the accessories.
02:03You want to see me mix it up a little bit?
02:05Let me know down below in the comments section.
02:07You know what?
02:07Instead of actually looking at the trading card next, we'll look at the other things that come in clue with
02:11Bronze Tiger.
02:12A little boring, though.
02:13The figure does come in clue with trigger-firing finger hands.
02:16Not that they're boring, but the fact that they sort of elude the idea that the figure could have come
02:19in clue with some other accessories than what he has right now.
02:23It's interesting, though, to note that the hands that he has to swap out don't actually have the claws on
02:28the ends.
02:29Those are only the ones that are going to be on the ends of his forearms.
02:31So, really, I'll show you guys how that works in a second.
02:34Back to the usual norm.
02:35The figure does also come in clue with the trading card.
02:37The trading card actually depicts, though, him in the exact same outfit that we actually get in the figure.
02:43Sometimes, though, it isn't the case.
02:44A lot of times I actually will look at the card and I think to myself, it doesn't quite really
02:48follow the source material.
02:49But in this case, though, the costume does match the source material rather nicely.
02:53The back of the card, though, does give his real name as Benjamin Turner.
02:57And it does also give us a paragraph read right in between my fingers.
03:00Those would be the parts that you could actually read for yourself.
03:02But though I've taken the liberty of already doing it for you, I've saved yourself so much time.
03:07Just think of all the time now you've saved, like 15 seconds worth.
03:11What can you do possibly in 15 seconds?
03:13You could probably put down toast, bread in a toaster, make yourself some toast.
03:17In the meantime, though, let's move that off to the side.
03:19So, I said already, the hands that he technically has on the ends of his forearms do actually have the
03:24claws.
03:25If you choose, though, to instead swap them out with these hands, you'll notice that these hands don't have those
03:31blades.
03:33It's unfortunately a trade-off, though, because while unfortunately he does not have it on these hands,
03:37these hands would be ideal, though, if you want to give him some guns.
03:40So, unfortunately, you have to 86 these little claws that he has on the ends of his hands just to,
03:45again, swap them out.
03:47Not that really necessarily you need to swap them out, because after all, again, the figure doesn't come included with
03:50any other accessories.
03:51Just let's pop the hand off the peg.
03:53Very stubborn these pegs are, by the way.
03:56And let's just change one of the hands just to show you guys how that works.
04:00Wait, is that how it works onto the peg?
04:02I know you're just being silly.
04:03But, yeah, you can see, like, there's one hand that doesn't have the spike, the claws, the other side does.
04:08So, I think I'd probably more likely display him with this.
04:10But then the downside, though, is if I happen to go to my tickle trunk and pull myself out some
04:14additional firepower,
04:16then he's going to have to lose that in order for him to hold something.
04:19Let's move those all off to the side.
04:21Getting a closer look, though, at Bronze Tiger.
04:24Nice looking figure overall.
04:25Now, what's interesting about him is the fact that not only in the New 52 does he turn into a
04:29tiger himself,
04:30but he also, at one point, used the venom drug.
04:32So, I guess he has some connection as well to Bane.
04:35The one thing I will say, though, about the figure is, while I do like the head sculpt on it,
04:39I will say, like, the expression is a little tad boring.
04:42Like, I like that they've added all these details on the sides of his face.
04:45Like, for example, I just moved his collar out of the way.
04:46You can see he's got these nice, cool red stripes there on his cheek and the top of his head
04:51as well.
04:52And that looks really good.
04:53What I think, though, could have made him even more good, gooder,
04:57I know that's not really the right word,
04:58is look at the expression that they gave him, though, for the source material on the trading card.
05:03He's kind of got more visible teeth.
05:05And I feel like that could have given him something.
05:08I know, generally, with most of these figures, you don't tend to get it.
05:10You get mostly neutral expressions.
05:13Batman always has his lips closed.
05:16Superman always just has a rather stoic face.
05:18I know by now, we generally, when it comes to these figures,
05:21we don't get much in the way of expressions,
05:22but I feel like for Bronze Tiger, we needed to make the exception.
05:26Just something more than the expression that we're getting right here,
05:29because it's the part that, unfortunately, makes the figure look, then, a little more boring.
05:33Of course, he does have his jacket on.
05:34The jacket is attached, actually, up at the top here.
05:38You'll see that it's actually loose down below.
05:40Texturing-wise, they've added, of course, the tiger print there on the front of his chest.
05:44He has more, like, armored torso, like an armored chest piece.
05:48And, of course, he also does have the little, I guess,
05:50the little teeth there that he has for his necklace as well.
05:52Like, the figure looks great.
05:54I think the only thing that lets this guy down quite a lot is just the fact his face is
05:58a rather boring one.
06:00The jacket, I feel like we've seen before.
06:02I don't know if it's actually been used before.
06:04One thing, unfortunately, about this is because they had to use a softer plastic for the jacket,
06:08and, obviously, more rigid plastic for his arms.
06:10His arms don't quite match the same shininess that he has for his jacket.
06:15Now, this isn't the first time, obviously.
06:17Bronze Tiger isn't the sole exception of that.
06:19But, usually, when you get, like, soft-materialed jackets and harder-materialed arms,
06:26they tend not to be the same kind of trans, like, shiniest.
06:31So, unfortunately, though, it looks a little jarring.
06:33Like, again, like, I wish, like, the arms were shinier like this,
06:35because I think, like, the jacket part looks quite good.
06:38Of course, he does also have his slacks down below.
06:40There's a little bit of texturing there as twos,
06:41and, of course, he also has a little belt buckle.
06:43I know I'm really only listing the things that you probably can already even see for yourself,
06:47but I like the belt buckle.
06:49If I could pull that off, I would certainly use a belt buckle like that on my own pants.
06:54The boots are very generic.
06:56I mean, in the sense that, obviously, he has more, like, military style of boots.
06:59But they did at least go in there and actually sculpt the bottoms of the treads.
07:03Again, I like the look of the character,
07:04and I hate to sound so redundantly by saying the exact same thing again.
07:08I think, again, the only thing that really lets this figure down is,
07:11while the face is good, he needed some sort of expression.
07:15Something.
07:16A little bit of life.
07:17A little bit of personality.
07:18For the figure's articulation,
07:20Bronze Tiger is going to have a head rotation now.
07:22Now, he has a higher collar for his jacket.
07:25You'll find that that's going to get in the way when it comes to rotating his head around.
07:29It gets here, and then as you kind of move it further,
07:31you can hear that it really does squeak.
07:35By the way, though, it does look like the necklace is a separate piece.
07:37Not that I would really try to take the head off to take the necklace off,
07:41but it does look like, though, it's separate from the rest of his body.
07:44As for his arms, they rotate all the way around.
07:47There's enough, at least, clearance that they've put to the jacket
07:49that you can rotate his arms all the way around and not have too many issues with that.
07:53You can also bring the arms out to give him a T pose.
07:55There's a swivel here to the bicep.
07:57To be fair, actually, he has a swivel on this side as well.
08:00Double hinge on his elbow.
08:01Of course, the hands do rotate all the way around,
08:03whether you want to use trigger-firing finger hands,
08:05even though the figure doesn't have any guns,
08:07or you want to stick instead with his tiger claws.
08:11Either way would be fine.
08:12The legs do split.
08:13Did we actually look at the top of the torso?
08:15I don't feel like we did.
08:16The torso does actually, when you look at it,
08:19you think that this is all kind of one piece.
08:21In actual fact, though, this torso is separate.
08:25It's tight, mind you, though,
08:26but you can still rotate it back and forth and up and down.
08:29The figure does also have a bowl joint at the base of his abdomen,
08:32which actually moves a lot freer.
08:34Legs split, and when they do split,
08:36they have a ratcheted joint working behind the scenes.
08:39Of course, you can move the legs forward and back.
08:43There's a little swivel there at the top of the thigh.
08:46A little excessive, don't you think?
08:48There's also a double hinge in the knee.
08:49No articulation here for the boots,
08:52which, again, makes me think that they probably have used...
08:54Well, obviously, the calf and the boot are all one piece.
08:57I'm wondering, though,
08:58maybe they use these feet for grifter?
09:01Maybe not.
09:02Somebody could probably let me know down below in the comments section.
09:05And then, of course, he has his ankle pivot,
09:06a nice ankle rocker.
09:08And the figure does also have toe articulation as well.
09:11What could make this figure be better?
09:14Hmm, ponder it yourself.
09:16I think, first of all, like, again, give him a better expression.
09:18Just the fact that we set the bar pretty high with bronze
09:21when it comes to, like, the way that the card looks,
09:23I really wish that his face looked more like this.
09:26Like, the jacket is the same.
09:28The, obviously, the torso armor that he has underneath
09:31is exactly the same as well.
09:32He even also has his little belt buckle.
09:34I say little.
09:36It's not quite little.
09:37I also feel like he probably could have used some accessories as well.
09:40This week, we've actually looked at Page Puncher's figures.
09:43And because, again, like, they include comics,
09:45you could kind of maybe say,
09:46okay, maybe that's where the budget is going.
09:48But with Bronze Tiger just being a DC multiverse release,
09:51I would think, though,
09:52that he should have really had more accessories
09:53than just some swappable hands.
09:56I know guns, maybe we can't still yet do guns
09:58when it comes to these figures,
09:59but maybe he could have included something else as well.
10:02Still, in the end, though,
10:03you get yourself a trading card,
10:04you get yourself a display stand.
10:05There's not a whole lot that comes with Bronze Tiger.
10:07But if you did want to have somebody
10:08that's going to help lead the Suicide Squad,
10:11which, again, we just, you know what,
10:12we can bring them back.
10:14Start talking about the Suicide Squad
10:16and what horrible reviewer would I be
10:17if I didn't actually bring them back.
10:20I don't think we actually have any more.
10:22Do we have any more Suicide Squad?
10:23It's actually funny that I say Suicide Squad.
10:26With all the very different Batmans
10:28that we've gotten over the years
10:29from Todd and his team,
10:30think how many times
10:31we've actually gotten ourselves a Harley Quinn.
10:33I know you're probably already thinking,
10:34well, there's the Harley Quinn
10:35from the Suicide Squad movies.
10:37Yeah, I know that.
10:38And there was, again,
10:39like that comic-inspired Harley Quinn,
10:41which really, again,
10:42was just her in the Jester outfit.
10:43But outside of that,
10:44you would think, really,
10:46that Harley Quinn would have been
10:47a go-to obvious one
10:49that we would have gotten
10:50a whole lot more figures.
10:51And as we kind of, again,
10:52get near the end of the lineage
10:53of the DC multiverse,
10:55it's kind of, again, surprising to me
10:56that we never got more Harley Quinns.
10:58Just regular comic Harley Quinns.
11:01Needless, though, to say,
11:02my display plans are going to be
11:04that Bronze Tiger is going to be
11:05displayed along the rest of the League,
11:07the rest of the Suicide Squad,
11:08with maybe Batman making
11:09an occasional appearance.
11:11But the new 52 Bronze Tiger
11:12got an extensive overhaul.
11:14The original Silver Age Bronze Tiger
11:16actually did have the character
11:17wearing kind of more
11:18of an orange jumpsuit
11:19with a crisscross tiger print
11:22on the front of his chest,
11:22yellow gloves,
11:24this sounds crazy,
11:25and yellow boots.
11:26He also, of course,
11:27had like tiger teeth
11:29kind of branded
11:29on the front of his face.
11:31I would love
11:32if they could give us
11:33like a Silver Age Bronze Tiger,
11:34but I think the likelihood
11:35is probably not going to happen
11:36considering now
11:37how close we are
11:38to the ending of DC Multiverse.
11:40At the very least, though,
11:41we can at least walk away
11:43knowing that we did
11:44get ourselves a Bronze Tiger,
11:45and I guess most people
11:46probably would want
11:47a more modernized character
11:48than the one
11:49I just finished describing.
11:50Bronze Tiger, though,
11:51the original Bronze Tiger,
11:52is awesome.
11:52This figure is not awesome,
11:55but he's still pretty good.
11:56I know, again,
11:57the few things that I mentioned
11:58probably could have
11:58maybe improved this figure,
12:00one of which,
12:01the biggest of which,
12:02happens to be
12:02the facial expression
12:03on the character's face.
12:04I know we tend not
12:05to get this a lot
12:06with the DC brand,
12:08but, you know,
12:08just an expression
12:09every once in a while.
12:10We don't need side eyes.
12:12We don't need tongues
12:13sticking out, for example,
12:14but every once in a while,
12:15though,
12:16just showing some teeth
12:17could really help
12:18to add a little bit
12:19extra life
12:19to these plastic figures.
12:21I know generally
12:22like these figures
12:22aren't going to have
12:23all the life of their own,
12:24but there's things
12:25that you can do
12:26to make them
12:27a little bit more interesting.
12:28I feel like in the case,
12:29though,
12:30with Bronze Tiger,
12:30he's not a bad figure,
12:32but he could have
12:32certainly been
12:33a lot more interesting.
12:35What do you guys think
12:35of Bronze Tiger?
12:36Let me know down below
12:36in the comments section.
12:37What other character
12:38can you think of
12:39that got an extensive
12:41overhaul
12:41in the DC comic world,
12:43but you kind of
12:44actually think
12:45there's more charm
12:45to the original way
12:46that they were designed?
12:48Let me know down below.
12:49If, in the meantime,
12:50though,
12:50you guys did enjoy this video,
12:51you can do it a song,
12:52throw it a like.
12:52You guys want to stick around
12:53for more so?
12:54I do hope so.
12:55We're going to have
12:56some more videos
12:56coming your way,
12:57yes, we will,
12:57for the rest of this week,
12:58so I hope you guys
12:59are going to be
12:59coming back for that.
13:00As always,
13:01thanks for watching.
13:01See you guys next time.
