00:00And we're going to prove that again on Saturday. Enjoy the World Cup. Enjoy Australia winning. Go the Socceroos. Go
00:06USA. Go the Socceroos.
00:08Hi guys. Agarron Latifi here from Yolora Mercury. This is my colleague here, Tyler Welch from the U.S. He's
00:13an intern working at the Mercury and a big U.S. supporter as you can imagine.
00:18We're going to have a bit of a say about the World Cup. Tyler wants to have a bit of
00:21a chat about the U.S. and why Mike Griller, who said it was a layup to beat Australia, is
00:27right. Go ahead, Tyler.
00:28I think Mike Griller might have had a point. If you saw our game this past weekend, beating Paraguay 4
00:35-1, y'all did win against Turkey 2-0, but I just think the American attack is going to be
00:40a little bit too much for y'all.
00:43America's a good side. Don't get me wrong. They're a very good side, but we should talk about history and
00:47about what it means to play for your country.
00:49It's more than just about the team you are. U.S., they're favourites. They've got players playing all over the
00:56world. Australia, we haven't got as many players, but what we have is a diverse country, which plays for their
01:06country and plays to their best. What have you got to say about that?
01:09I would say what matters more is results, and given that we beat y'all a good eight months ago
01:13in a friendly, I think that's a pretty good sign of how we're going to do coming up on Saturday.
01:18You just said friendly. That's all it is. It's a friendly. When we're playing for something at stake, Australia always
01:25show up. Let's talk a bit about the history of both countries. We'll start off the U.S.
01:30Yeah, well, I mean, we really haven't gone super far in a tournament since, you know, about 1930, but everyone's
01:36saying this is the best squad we've had in a very long time. I think it's probably the most talented
01:41one we've had in quite a while, so I think this is going to be the time that we make
01:46it past a round of 16, something y'all have never done.
01:49No, we haven't, but we have made it to round 16, and let me tell you a bit about the
01:53Australian history. We'll talk about the American history. We said 1930s was the last time they did it, and they're
01:59playing at home for the second time, so they've had an advantage of playing World Cups at home, so we
02:05haven't.
02:05But let's, the badge here, 1974 Socceroos, they're our pioneers. The great, late Johnny Warren said it, I told you
02:14so, and we straight keep on proving him right, I told you so. We didn't make our next World Cup
02:22until 2006, 32 years later.
02:24Ironically, that was in Germany, same place that we made the 1974 World Cup. From that moment, we've made five
02:33straight World Cups. In 2006, we lost to the eventual champions, Italy. A dodgy penalty in the round of 16.
02:43Let's remember the last World Cup, in Qatar, 2022. We lost to the eventual champions, Argentina. The great Messi, that
02:52probably hasn't been a better player in the world ever, and Emilio Martin has pulled off a great save to
02:57keep his team in the game when they were leading 2-1 to maintain the lead.
03:02So twice we've lost to the eventual champions. That just shows that Australia, when we play in major tournaments, we
03:08don't lose a lot.
03:09We don't lose a lot. We make it. We lose to the eventual champions. I don't know what America has
03:14done. What has America done? What has Mike Grello done? I mean, he's played one game for Leeds United.
03:20Well, we don't have Mike Grello on the field, but we do have Christian Pulisic, who is far and away
03:25a better player than anyone you'll have on your side. So I feel pretty good about our chances.
03:30Yeah, he is a better player. I'm not saying. He's undoubtedly a better player. But as a team, America is
03:37full of individuals. And Australia is a team that has shown historically, we just mentioned historically, that we're better than
03:45you. And we're going to prove that again on Saturday. Enjoy the World Cup. Enjoy Australia winning. Go the Socceroos.
03:52Go USA. Go the Socceroos.
