00:00Have you ever thought about the role traffic plays in delivering a vital organ for a transplant?
00:04That's where I come in.
00:05Hi, I'm Brendan, a senior transport operations controller, and part of my role is creating
00:09what's called a green light corridor.
00:11Basically adjusting traffic signals to create a series of green lights for the police escort
00:15vehicle to reach the hospital in a fraction of the time.
00:18When the transplant team notify us an organ is arriving, we work to identify a route that
00:22will get them from the airport to the hospital fastest.
00:25Depending on the time of day and traffic conditions, we find a route we can clear quickly and
00:29make sure the vehicle arrives every set of lights to a green.
00:32Traffic can change quickly, so we pay close attention to the conditions and adjust the
00:36route manually in real time.
00:38Doing this can reduce the time it takes to get to hospital and potentially help patients
00:43receive life-saving treatment faster.
00:45So if you find yourself stuck at a red light for slightly longer than usual, keep in mind
00:49that it might be to save a life.
