The Obama Presidential Center opens to the general public on Juneteenth after a celebratory dedication in Chicago with dignitaries. But tens of thousands of people – friends and family of museum staff, students and journalists – have already been offered a sneak peek as crews finish final art installations and landscaping.

00:00Many presidential libraries and institutions have some of these iconic features.
00:05There are some that have the replica of the limousine or Air Force One, but President
00:10Obama chose the Oval Office to give people an opportunity to see what it's like to sit
00:16behind a resident desk.
00:17There's Mrs. Obama's iconic dresses from both terms located there as well.
00:22You'll see some of those iconic memorabilia and features throughout both terms in the
00:28campaigns as well.
00:30So the exterior of the building is designed in the shape of four hands coming together
00:35and so with that it's to hopefully have people reflect on the power of the collective we and
00:42people coming together to bring about change.
00:45Yeah, right now I'm taking out some peas, we're getting peppers later today, so, mmm!
00:52President Obama chose Chicago because it's a city that has given so much to them.

01:15I also want people to know that this is a safe space for them to come and, yes, reflect on
01:21the historic moment of his presidency and the campaigns, but also to come together as
01:27a community.
01:29This campus should inspire people to be hopeful and to think about the actual change they can
01:34make in their own communities.
