France's Besancon Zoo celebrates birth of rare ruffed lemur

Alert and adventurous, Toky, a white‑belted ruffed lemur born at the end of May at Besancon Zoo, represents a sign of hope for the long‑term conservation of this critically endangered species. "It is a very rare subspecies of the black-and-white ruffed lemur," explains Margaux Pizzo, director of the Besancon Citadel Zoo. "This birth is therefore extremely valuable for the long-term conservation of the species," she adds.
