00:00Ukraine launched a wave of drone attacks across Moscow on Thursday as it continued to target
00:05the Russian energy industry.
00:10US President Donald Trump signed an initial deal with Iran as he attended an official
00:15dinner at the Palace of Versailles at Emmanuel Macron's invitation.
00:20An Israeli soldier and a Lebanese individual have been killed following fresh fighting
00:24in southern Lebanon with drone strikes and ground clashes.
00:32Ukraine launched a wave of drone attacks across Moscow early on Thursday morning as it
00:37continued to target the Russian energy industry.
00:40In a series of posts on Telegram, Moscow mayor said air defenses had intercepted 180 drones
00:47approaching the capital but that several had managed to strike a refinery in what he called
00:53a massive attack.
00:55It is the second time the refinery has been hit this week.
00:59The governor of Moscow region said a fire caused by drone debris also broke out at a shopping
01:04center in the south east of Moscow and that another drone struck an apartment building.
01:10Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the attack on the refinery in a post on X.
01:15Kiev has stepped up strikes on Russian energy facilities in recent months in what Zelensky
01:21has described as a just campaign of long-range sanctions against Moscow.
01:26Russia carried out its own attack on the Ukrainian energy sector on Wednesday night targeting an
01:31energy infrastructure facility in a Poltava region.
01:40US Secretary of Defense and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte have promoted NATO 3.0 with a stronger
01:48European defense at a meeting of defense ministers in Brussels.
01:52This doctrine aims at strengthening NATO by reducing Europe's dependence on the United States, increasing
01:59defense investments and strengthening the industrial base. Mark Rutte reiterated the commitment to
02:05build a stronger Europe in a stronger NATO, while the Pentagon chief urged Europeans to take the lead
02:11to defend their own continents.
02:13The NATO 3.0 is a post-Cold War recognition that needs to go back to a real hard-line
02:20military alliance
02:21that has real military capabilities capable of deterring right here on the continent and taking the lead
02:27for the conventional defense of Europe, which you have led on and other nations are stepping up to do.
02:34Upon arrival, the NATO Secretary General welcomed the deal reached between the United States and Iran.
02:40I think President Trump struck a good deal. It is important because what this deal does is degrade the nuclear
02:46capability.
02:47This is what the US did through this, basically from the end of February, making sure that the nuclear capability
02:56is degraded in Iran, the same when it comes to the ballistic missile capability, which is posing a threat,
03:00not only to the Middle East, but also to Europe and other parts of the world, but also to restore
03:05the freedom of navigation.
03:07Leaders of NATO member states will meet next month in Ankara at a critical moment for European security.
03:18U.S. President Donald Trump inked an initial deal with Iran to end the war he waged with Israel on
03:23the 28th of February as the two sides work on brokering a permanent agreement. The White House
03:30appears to have agreed to major concessions despite Trump marketing the deal as a great settlement.
03:35The initial framework, which takes immediate effect calls for a permanent cessation of hostilities,
03:41eases U.S.-driven sanctions on Iran but doesn't outright eliminate them,
03:45and reopens the Strait of Hormuz. It also affirms a commitment to Lebanon's territorial integrity
03:51in the face of Israel's invasion and repeated attacks, despite an existing ceasefire in place.
03:57The deal also establishes a 60-day negotiating window to reach a conclusive resolution over Iran's
04:04disputed nuclear program, with the U.S. calling on Tehran to dilute its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
04:11It's a dramatic step back for Trump, who for weeks has endorsed a hardline stance against the
04:16Islamic Republic and appeared unwilling to make much concessions to his war objectives.
04:21Those included ending Iran's ability to produce a nuclear weapon, destroying their missile and
04:26naval capabilities, bringing an end to their ability to fund proxy groups in the region,
04:31and at times even called for regime change. Trump said getting to that point was not easy as he put
04:37pen to paper on the deal while attending an official dinner at the Palace of Versailles,
04:42at his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron's invitation. The deal was also signed by Iranian
04:48President Massoud Pazeshkian, who did not extend an official comment on its contents. Trump, however,
04:55warned that he's prepared to resume the war if Iran fails to deliver on its promises,
04:59noting that Washington will pick up where it left off if its goodwill gesture is not reciprocated.
05:07The Israeli military announced on Thursday that a master sergeant was killed and seven
05:11soldiers were wounded during intense combat in southern Lebanon the day before.
05:17The fatal clash occurred just as the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on
05:23Wednesday meant to end the war that broke out on February the 28th. The agreement seeks to halt
05:29fighting on all fronts. However, an Israeli drone strike in the Kfar Tehned region killed one person
05:35on Thursday hours after the text was finalized. Israeli media reported that backroom negotiations are
05:42underway with Washington to maintain a military presence to protect the territory from Hezbollah
05:47threats. Meanwhile, Iran warned that any continued presence would completely nullify its deal with
05:53Washington, which took months of diplomatic mediation to broker. As the UN warns of a dire humanitarian
06:00crisis, the conflict has already displaced more than a million people, with Beirut reporting over
06:053,800 deaths since the invasion began.
06:15Resource management, fuel prices, foreign competition, pressing issues for French fishermen
06:21and other actors in the maritime sector to discuss their meeting in Cherbourg. In April,
06:26fishermen protested against high fuel prices from Normandy to the French Mediterranean island of Corsica.
06:32The recent peace deal signed between Iran and the US is giving fishermen hope for a decrease in energy
06:39prices. Fuel represented up to 60 percent of ship owners turnover in May. In the English Channel,
06:46fishermen also have to coexist with aquaculture, offshore wind farms and maritime transport. Small
06:53fishermen hope the French coastal strip will soon be out of bounds to ships measuring over 25 meters.
06:58On the Atlantic coast, fishing might temporarily be prohibited next year in the Bay of Biscay to protect dolphins.
07:05Last but not least, fishermen are calling for measures to modernize and decarbonize fishing vessels.
07:16This is a local election with national implications. On Thursday, 75,000 British voters in the Makerfield
07:24constituency in the northwest of England may hold the Prime Minister's future in their hands. The favorite in the polls
07:32for the
07:32parliamentary seat is Labour's Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester. Should he succeed, he could challenge the
07:39leadership of the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, at the head of the Labour Party. Britain's parliamentary system
07:46allows governing parties to change leader mid-term, with a winner becoming Prime Minister without the need
07:51for a national election. Since coming to power, Starmer has faced electoral defeats and difficulties,
07:57such as the appointment of Peter Mandelson as the UK's ambassador to Washington, a figure whose name is linked to
08:04the
08:04Jeffrey Epstein scandal. Despite this, Starmer has already warned that he intends to fight to remain at 10 Downing
08:11Street.
08:12Well, I don't think there should be a leadership election. I think that the last government proved that
08:19parties that spend their whole time in leadership elections don't go on to win the next general election.
08:25I'm not walking away. I'm going to fight.
08:27Before we can hope to move into 10 Downing Street, Andy Burnham will also have to defeat the candidate
08:33from the far-right Reform UK party. Results are expected in the early hours of Friday.
08:41The first match day of the 2026 FIFA World Cup has come to a close after all 48 competing teams
08:49played
08:49their opening fixtures in a group stage that have so far produced a mix of expected results and upsets.
08:56Early Thursday matches saw Colombia bag an easy win in their opening fixture, with the Luis Diaz side
09:02scoring three past debutant Uzbekistan who managed to put in their first ever World Cup goal.
09:093-1 it ended in Mexico City.
09:13In Toronto, Ghana produced a late 1-0 winner in their Group L match against Panama.
09:18The Black Stars secured a dramatic 1-0 victory thanks to a stoppage time strike from Caleb Yerenci.
09:26And in what was, at doubt, one of the most entertaining matches of the evening,
09:31a star-studded England side signalled their World Cup intent of beating Croatia 4-2 in their Group
09:37opener in Dallas. Kerry Kane's double and a goal apiece from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford
09:44ensured England secured the win. Earlier, Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo failed to score as the reigning
09:51UEFA Nations League winners drew against the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, in Houston.
09:58Congo, which was playing at the World Cup for the first time in 52 years, became the second African
10:03nation to make a strong start against the top European competition, following Cape Verde's
10:09goalist draw with Spain earlier this week.
