Flash floods destroy houses in northern Spain village
Northern Spain woke up on Thursday (June 18) to the aftermath of severe storms and flooding that devastated several villages in the northwestern region of Galicia. The mayor of Viana do Bolo described the aftermath as "desolating", saying entire villages were overwhelmed by the force of the water, regional Galician television reported. Landslides buried cars, ovens and garages, while mud reached the windows of some homes and left residents cut off by road closures. Galicia recorded nearly 6,000 lightning strikes in the previous 24 hours as thunderstorms swept across the eastern half of the region, according to regional media.
