00:13Welcome to Beyond the Game, the ball stays pure. Another major surprise in the 2026 World Cup arrived in Group
00:19K.
00:20The Democratic Republic of the Congo held Portugal to a 1-1 draw, earning a historic point against one of
00:26the tournament favorites.
00:27Portugal dominated possession for long stretches and controlled the rhythm of the match,
00:32but the Europeans struggled to translate that control into clear-out chances.
00:37Despite seeing plenty of the ball, Portugal lacked sharpness in the final third
00:41and really looked capable of putting the game beyond reach.
00:46The Archangelo executed its game plan brilliantly, remaining compact defensively and disciplined without possession.
00:52The Africans absorbed pressure before striking with a crucial equalizer in first half stoppage time.
00:58That will shift the momentum and gave the Archangelo the belief to see out the result.
01:02A famous result for the Archangelo and an early warning signed for Portugal,
01:07whose possession-heavy approach produced plenty of control but very little bite.
01:25And the man of the match fell on DRC goalkeeper Lionel Pasi, whose performance secured the draw.
01:31Pasi was called into action on several occasions as Portugal dominated possession and pushed for the winner.
01:37The goalkeeper remained composed throughout the match, making several saves and commanding his penalty area effectively under constant pressure.
01:45His positioning, handling and decision-making prevented Portugal from turning its territorial dominance into goals.
02:04Let's now go with our colleague Henry Carmelo who is in New York for more details about this game that
02:08just concluded.
02:11Hello from New York City.
02:13One of the biggest surprises of the day came from the Democratic Republic of Congo, which held Portugal to a
02:211-1 draw.
02:23Portugal struck first through Neves, but Wiza leveled the match in the second half to earn Congo a valuable point.
02:31The World Cup action continues with England facing Croatia, Panama taking on Ghana and the match.
02:40Many of the more than two million Colombians in the United States are waiting for Colombia versus Uzbekistan at 10
02:48p.m. Eastern time.
02:50We will have complete coverage of all actions from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
02:56From New York City, I'm Henry Carmelo. Back to you in the studio.
03:03In the other two games that will be taking place here tonight, we have first Ghana and Panama, which meet
03:08in a fascinating group L clash,
03:09with both sides looking to make an early statement in a group that also features England and Croatia.
03:14Ghana arrive with a blend of athleticism, pace and attacking flair expected to press aggressively and attack through the winds.
03:21Much of the spotlight will be on their dynamic forward line and ability to win second balls in midfield.
03:26Panama, meanwhile, would look to frustrate their opponents with a compact defensive shape and disciplined organization.
03:33Set pieces and counter-attacks could be their biggest weapons if Ghana can impose a high tempo that may gain
03:38the upper hand.
03:45And later tonight, Colombia begin their World Cup campaign against tournament debutants Uzbekistan in Group K.
03:52Colombia enter as favorites, boasting technical quality, creativity in midfield and dangerous attacking options capable of unlocking defenses.
04:00Expect them to dominate possession and patiently probe for openings.
04:04For Uzbekistan, this is a historic occasion and a chance to showcase their growing presence on the world stage.
04:10They are likely to rely on defensive discipline, quick transitions and collective teamwork contain Colombia's attacking threats.
04:23And in a special interview with our multi-platform Cape Verdean icon, Bosinja, the goalkeeper responsible for holding Spain to
04:30a scoreless draw in Cape Verde's first ever World Cup match, spoke on the power of football to unite nations.
04:37Sport, in itself, should always be present in nations, regardless of the discipline being practiced, because it has the power
04:45to unite an entire country.
04:47However, football, as the king of sports, has an even greater impact.
04:52What people have experienced, and what we ourselves have experienced, is something truly special I do not know if anything
04:58similar has ever been witnessed before.
05:00I hope football will always continue to bring that joy and unity, which should never come to an end.
05:06People need to be united and happy, even while knowing that many face difficult situations and endure great hardships.
05:13As for us, we will continue doing everything possible to honor the name of our country and to see our
05:18people happy.
05:21And Herbie Renard is the new head coach of Tunisia, becoming the first manager appointed during the 2026 FIFA World
05:27Cup.
05:27The highly respected French coach takes charge after Tunisia, dismiss Sabri Lamushi, following the team's heavy 5-1 defeat to
05:35Sweden in its opening group stage match.
05:37Renard arrives with an impressive international resume.
05:40He is the only coach to have won the Africa Cup of Nations with two different countries, leading Zambia to
05:46a historic title in 2012, before guiding Cote d'Ivoire to continental glory in 2015.
05:51He also gained worldwide recognition for coaching Saudi Arabia to their stunning victory over Argentina at the 2022 World Cup.
05:59Now Tunisia hopes Renard can work his magic once again, as the Eagles of Carthage look to recover from a
06:05difficult start.
06:21And as I recall before we conclude, the match that is currently underway between England and Croatia is currently at
06:28halftime and the game is tied 2-2.
06:31It has been a very entertaining match with a lot of work being made by the English forward and a
06:37lot of work being done in the defense of Croatia.
06:40England has had more possession during this match.
06:42It has had 50-50.
06:44It has been leveled by the end of the match level.
06:47It began having more possession, controlling the ball, controlling the chances.
06:51But little by little, as the game moved forward, Croatia was able to enter the game, first finding a first
06:57goal and then securing a draw.
07:00As we have said, England is 2, Croatia has 2, and everything is open for the second half to decide
07:06who's going to be the winner of this score.
07:08It's going to be the last result.
07:14This is all for this edition of Beyond the Game.
07:16The Bolsa Spear will be back with more information in upcoming news briefs.
