Police Interceptors S25E10 (8th June 2026)
Transcript
00:02This is Police Interceptors.
00:04Police Interceptors, a real life one.
00:06I'm going to tell my kids about this.
00:08And you're riding with the pride of Northamptonshire.
00:13Come on!
00:14Ace Pursuit drivers.
00:15Contact, contact, contact.
00:17Air pass five on.
00:18With air support.
00:19Got two out, stand by.
00:21I'm out!
00:22And a crack dog unit.
00:23If you leave, you will get hit.
00:27They bring down the bad guys.
00:29I believe you'll want it, mate.
00:33Keep the streets safe.
00:38And battle 24-7.
00:42In the war on crime.
00:45Clash, clash.
00:48Here's what it is, isn't it?
00:49We find them, we lock them up.
00:53Coming up.
00:54Approaching Red ATS.
00:56Do the Red ATS.
00:58Fickle, stud, fickle, stud.
00:59A suspected troop driver feels the sting of the interceptors.
01:04Right, it's going to be an offside box.
01:06Are we all ready for this?
01:08Police of a dog, come out!
01:10Canine cop Bryn goes in search of a late night snack.
01:13If there's anyone else in the bushes, the dog's coming in.
01:18And...
01:19Police officers with tater,
01:20both of you get down on the floor now.
01:22On the floor, now!
01:24One man and his dog have something to hide.
01:27He's just dropped something down there.
01:46Oh!
01:46Oh, here we go.
01:49Suspect drink driver.
01:52It's close to midnight and Sandra and Joe have pulled over on the edge of town
01:57to await developments on an unfolding situation.
02:00So we've had a call from Ketrin Town Centre CCTV.
02:04I've seen a male getting out of a Subaru car.
02:08He's been drinking from a bottle of Desperado.
02:11So the suspicion is that he's going to be a drink driver.
02:14Town Centre CCTV has been monitoring him.
02:17They're keeping ourselves and Scott updated.
02:20And we suspect that he's going to be getting into the vehicle right now.
02:23So we're just going to be moving off very shortly once the CCTV updates us.
02:30The man lingers in town drinking and chatting for the best part of an hour
02:34before grabbing a bottle of wine and getting back into his motor.
02:38He's moving off now.
02:40Oh, here we go.
02:41The game is afoot.
02:45We were the other side, so we're just heading in there.
02:49Up ahead, Scott Kimberley is in the unmarked BMW 340i.
02:55Acknowledged.
02:56And he's just locked his sights on the Subaru.
02:59I'll make sure we take him there.
03:00We're going to the front.
03:02We'll take the front.
03:03Sandra goes for the box.
03:08Stop, stop.
03:09Turn the car off. Turn the car off.
03:11I've got this thing wrong.
03:14I'm blocking, blocking.
03:15But somehow the sneaky Subaru squeaks its way through and floors it.
03:20Go, go, go.
03:22Ladies and gentlemen, we have a live one.
03:24Vehicle has failed to stop. Vehicle has failed to stop.
03:28Unfortunately for this runaway, Sandra's a wizard behind the wheel.
03:32Advance driver, TPAC train, marks the suitable vehicle.
03:38Her favourite movie is Top Gun, but she's more Iceman than Maverick.
03:43Known across the force for her unflappable demeanour.
03:47And tonight, she feels the need for speed.
03:51One white male driver.
03:53No other occupants.
03:56I reached in to switch the car off.
03:59He's driven forward and hit my arm.
04:02Minor injury.
04:05Normally, the World Rally-inspired Subaru Impreza would be more than a match for Sandra's Volvo XC60.
04:12We are joined by an unmarked BMW behind us with an initial pursuit driver.
04:18But this 30-year-old banger has seen better days.
04:22Currently Rockingham Road. Speed is 6-0.
04:26And Sandra's not giving an inch.
04:29Through a red ATS, temporarily high risk.
04:35Coming back to where we started, near Printers Yard. Standby for direction.
04:41The suspected drink driver is taking them in circles around town.
04:47Approaching red ATS. Through the red ATS.
04:51Times two.
04:52But the interceptors always have a plan B.
04:56They're setting up stinger site up ahead of us.
04:58Yeah, where's your stinger site?
05:00Right.
05:01Right.
05:02Junction 10.
05:03Roger, we're still approaching that junction. He's still Barton Boat.
05:07The stinger team is lying in wait a few hundred yards up ahead.
05:12Passing the shell garage.
05:14If the Subaru goes straight on at the next junction, it could be all over.
05:22He's taking the left, taking the left. Cancel on that stinger site. We are now Cranford Road.
05:30The stinger opportunity is gone. So, is there a plan C?
05:34We'll try and get him towards junction 10. We'll try and feed him that way.
05:39But before they arrive at the junction.
05:41He's coming to them.
05:43He's stuck.
05:44He's going round and round about. It's a reciprocal.
05:47The suspect doubles back.
05:49Which gives the cops a chance for another shot at plan B.
05:54We've got a stinger set up. It's the 40th station on Cranford Road.
05:58That's acknowledged.
06:01The stinger team are back in position.
06:03But this time, Sandra needs to try and force the fella left at the lights.
06:10Approaching red ATS.
06:12So, she makes her move.
06:18He's coming towards the stinger site.
06:21A nifty manoeuvre has followed the Subaru hurtling towards the track.
06:25Sandra pulls back and waits.
06:31Fickle, son. Fickle, son.
06:34A runaway has taken a direct hit.
06:38Right. Control. We are now A14 East Band at junction 10.
06:43If we can get suitable TPAC vehicles behind us now, we can go for a box.
06:47Can people let me know once they're behind if you are TPAC and how many we've got?
06:51Scott, in the unmarked behind, is not TPAC trained.
06:55So, Joe has ordered up a couple of armed response vehicles to join the party.
07:00Speed is 7-0.
07:02Straddling lanes one and two.
07:05He's starting to look a little bit unstable.
07:07They've got flats.
07:09Front offside is deflated.
07:13With the stinger having worked its magic, it could only be a matter of time before he's completely immobile.
07:20Speed 8-0.
07:22Despite the flat tyres, he's managed to hold a good line.
07:27How many have we got in the stick?
07:30With backup having arrived, Sandra seizes the moment.
07:33We are now in front of the subject vehicle.
07:36We've got it slowed to 4-2 miles an hour.
07:40But if he is going down, he's going down fighting.
07:44Oh.
07:45You all right?
07:46Yep.
07:48The suspect moves up onto the verge and rams it to the side of Sandra.
07:54Contact mate, contact mate. He's trying to go down the offside of us.
07:58His driving is now downright dangerous.
08:01The interceptors can't afford to let this pursuit carry on much longer.
08:06The MOVE
08:24Approaching red ATS. Through the red ATS.
08:28Pickle, stone, tickle, stone!
08:31In Kettering, interceptors Sandra and Joe are hot on the tail of a suspected drink driver.
08:36They've got flats. Front. Front offside is deflated.
08:42But once cop shredded his tyres, Mr Subaru took his revenge by slamming it to Sandra.
08:50Contact mate, contact mate has tried to go down the offside of us.
08:55Now, with the armed response vehicles in support, Sandra blocks the exit to keep the suspect on the dual carriageway.
09:07There are now three TPAC train drivers hunting the Subaru down.
09:18Right, we're going for the get-by.
09:21And this hungry pack sense their prey is faltering.
09:25Right, it's going to be an offside box. Are we all ready for this?
09:29Sandra takes pole.
09:31He's calling.
09:31And the others falling.
09:34Stop, stop, stop, stop.
09:36Fire it down, fire it down, fire it down.
09:39Stop, stop, stop.
09:43Make yourself to stop, follow good luck.
09:45Get off the car! Get off the car, you're under arrest!
09:48Get it!
09:50Right, you're under arrest for fail to stop, dangerous drive.
09:54You don't have to say anything, but it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned.
09:58Something which you later rely on in court.
10:00In their efforts to extract the man from his car, the cops have given him a close-up view of
10:05the inside of his T-shirt.
10:07Can we get that?
10:08Can I get out, please?
10:10Comfortably!
10:12Move that now.
10:13Yeah, but I can't see where I'm going for a start.
10:16Boys!
10:17Calm down, you've got to leave!
10:20Hey!
10:21Put your hands behind your back!
10:22Stop resisting!
10:23Put your hands behind your back!
10:26Stop resisting!
10:27It takes seven of them just to get his cough secured.
10:31It's all your training, yeah?
10:33Should have told you to keep your hands.
10:37Why would I want to pull over when you're going to victimise me no matter what I say I do?
10:43Because I'm technically homeless, living in my car.
10:48That car is my life and it's my home, so it was my interest to escape you boys, yeah, and
10:55get somewhere safe to get a good night's sleep.
10:57The man claims to have been homeless for five years and currently lives out of his car, which is why
11:04he was so keen to prevent it from being seized.
11:08One, two, three, there you go, nice one.
11:11And he's got nothing on him to prove his identity.
11:14What's your name?
11:15I am the Snowmeister.
11:18Troy Yorkie as well.
11:19He may claim to be the Snowmeister, but it's Sandra who remains ice-cool.
11:24You don't need to be abusive, do you?
11:27Well...
11:27It's not necessary.
11:28It's kind of...
11:31It fits at the moment.
11:32OK.
11:33Because you've ruined my car.
11:35And amid a blizzard of yet more insults...
11:38I drank grey, and if I wanted to, I could hurt your bollocks.
11:42But I'm not going to because I'm in enough.
11:44Frosty the Snowman is bundled off for a breath test.
11:48We're going to go up to the slip and do the breathalyser up there so we can start getting the
11:52road open, at least one lane anyway.
11:54But it's a bit of a mess, isn't it?
11:56Meanwhile, a couple of miles up the road...
11:59Right then.
12:00No, I'm not going to breathe in it because I haven't had 30 minutes clear from a cigarette or the
12:05alcohol talk.
12:06Well, it's 20 minutes for a start.
12:08I don't care, so you're going to have to do my blood.
12:11The driver's refusing to blow, so without further ado, he'll be taken to the Knick where they can try again.
12:18You know, I love the police, and I would make a really good police officer.
12:22I think your driver was outrageous, to be honest.
12:24It was outrageously good. Do you know why?
12:27I didn't kill me or anyone else, or you, did I?
12:30He's certainly not short of bravado.
12:32Whether that's the alcohol talking or not should become clear soon enough.
12:37Everybody's got a story, haven't they?
12:38And, you know, it's incredibly sad that he's been homeless for five years.
12:43But ultimately, he knows the difference between right and wrong.
12:47And it's not acceptable to drive like that at any stage, let alone whilst under the influence,
12:54which I'm sure will get that evidence in due course back at the station.
12:59When the convoy arrive at Kettering Knick, the bloke again refuses to blow.
13:04Do you now agree to provide two specimens of breath for analysis?
13:07Go!
13:09So police are left with little choice but to lock him up and leave him in the hands of the
13:14courts.
13:15Are you happy now?
13:16In you go.
13:17In you go.
13:18Yeah, yeah.
13:19Do you want to pack the big door?
13:20No.
13:28The pursuit is obviously tiring in itself because you're thinking about so much.
13:31You're thinking, what's going to happen when we go around this corner?
13:35What are we going to be presented with?
13:37What are we going to do when we stop?
13:43Yeah.
13:43Is he going to jump out in the car?
13:44Is he going to decamp across the motorway?
13:45And run across?
13:46Yeah.
13:47Is he going to go fighting?
13:48Because he showed that he's willing to stop at nothing.
13:50But I think what was reassuring is we knew that we had the ARVs behind.
13:54We knew we had Scott.
13:55We knew there was a dog in the stick as well.
13:57Yeah.
13:58It was really good that everybody was in the right place at the right time.
14:01When the Interceptors examined the Snowmeister's mobile phone, they found that, incredibly,
14:07he'd been filming the pursuit himself.
14:10He pleaded guilty to failing to stop, dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen.
14:16He was given a 13-month suspended prison sentence, banned from driving for 14 months
14:21and ordered to pay £375.
14:25His Subaru was never picked up from the pound, so it was sent to be scrapped.
14:30You did well, girl.
14:34The car or me?
14:36Yeah, well.
14:37Both.
14:48It's decamp, decamp.
14:50We're just looking for them now.
14:51When the Interceptors get a runner...
14:54Got dog handler there, now.
14:56..who vanishes without trace...
14:58Track on.
14:59One-seven.
15:00The track goes over the bridge.
15:01Really strong still.
15:03There's one member of the force they can always rely on to smoke him out.
15:08Right.
15:09Police of a dog.
15:09Get out.
15:11Stay where you are.
15:13Don't move.
15:15All dogs, regardless of breed, can track, but some breeds have a more natural ability
15:22for it.
15:23Brin's a German Shepherd, and German Shepherds are quite well known for being good tracking
15:28dogs.
15:29And also, he comes from a breed line of police dogs, who have been bred for their tracking
15:35ability.
15:37So it's a combination of good breeding and training, encouraging him to use that natural
15:42ability really early on.
15:44I love working Brin.
15:45He's a brilliant police dog.
15:56Just to confirm, they're not behind it.
15:59They've got three units to make it.
16:01On a balmy Thursday evening, dog handler Lucy Scullthorpe is blue-lighting it across the
16:06northern fringes of the county.
16:11In the back is police dog Brin.
16:15They've just got a crew behind an A4P.
16:18Multiple units from another force are hunting down a wanted motor.
16:22But they need Lucy and Brin's help.
16:25Cambridgeshire officers have got behind a vehicle that's committed some offences at
16:30Peterborough Services, cutting curtain sides on lorries.
16:35We'll go out and support them, because they share a dog across three forces, so they quite
16:40often don't have one, so we'll just go anyway, just in case.
16:45Police reckon the motor is being used by a crime gang, who steal from parked-up lorries.
16:57It's thought that this crime, known as curtain siding, now costs the UK economy around £700
17:04million a year.
17:09Can you let them know I'm on my way? I'm just at Junction 10, so I'm not far.
17:14The suspect motor has parked up in a lay-by, and its occupants have scarpered into the woods.
17:20I'm not sure how many runners they've had, possibly two, so we'll go and support them,
17:25see if we can find these suspects.
17:28Keen hiker Lucy loves the great outdoors, so for her, a cross-country manhunt on foot is
17:35practically an average Sunday afternoon.
17:40Control from North Ants Dog, I'm just arriving on scene on the eastbound carriageway.
17:46Sounds like Brin's eager to put a shift in too.
17:51Let's go and speak to them.
17:54Hello!
17:56You all right?
17:58Which way have they run?
18:00Go through there?
18:01OK.
18:02Maybe.
18:02Has anyone been in there on foot?
18:04Just as far as occurred, isn't it?
18:05Awesome.
18:06Lovely.
18:06And given the channel issues, would one of you mind coming with me on the door?
18:10Is that all right?
18:10No.
18:11The good news is that two have already been detained, but cops suspect another couple have
18:16disappeared into the woods behind the lorry.
18:21Brin, you're up.
18:25German Shepherd Brin's been on the force for five years, and when he's not chewing on bad
18:29guys, his number one snack is dried chicken feet, which frankly, just sounds foul.
18:40But with no poultry snacks available tonight, Lucy escorts him to the spot where the two
18:46runners were last seen.
18:50Brinny, find him.
18:54But Brin's showing little interest in those woods.
18:58I don't think they've gone down there.
19:00I think it'd be really obvious.
19:01The dog would be dragging me down there.
19:03I think they've gone across.
19:07Brin's keen nose has picked up on something on the road itself.
19:11Tempted to just hop over there, to be honest.
19:14So, with the carriageway empty...
19:18..they cross over to investigate.
19:23And it's not long before that nose kicks into overdrive.
19:31Something in those nettles is stinging his senses.
19:38Come here, mate. Come here. Come here.
19:40Police of the dog, come out!
19:41Come here, come here, come here. Come out!
19:43Come here, come here, come here, come here. Come out!
19:44Come here. I'm coming out, now it's all.
19:45Right, that side!
19:46Come here then. Stay there, stay there.
19:49Come to me, walk with me.
19:50How many of you?
19:51Just me, just me.
19:52One for me?
19:52Yep.
19:57The man claims to be alone.
20:00If there's anyone else in the bushes, the dog's coming in.
20:02Just yourself?
20:03Just me.
20:03Got any injury?
20:05Are we definitely missing two?
20:07Yeah, so there's one more outstanding reach.
20:09Shall we go?
20:09If you guys can go, when you get him out,
20:11if you can go straight back across,
20:12so I can carry him that way, that's grand.
20:15Or do we just take that?
20:16Wait.
20:18With the first suspect safely away,
20:21it looks like Bryn's still hungry for more.
20:23Roger.
20:24There's quite a lot of scent down some of the verges,
20:27so I'm just going to check those out.
20:30Something on the other side of that fence
20:31is getting his juices going.
20:34Right.
20:37As always, wherever Bryn goes, Lucy goes too.
20:41Wait.
20:44Wait.
20:46Bryn.
20:49So what's he found?
20:54You're joking me.
20:57The dog just wants a drink.
20:59It appears Bryn's dragged Lucy to a string to quench his thirst.
21:03There's not a bad guy in sight,
21:05but at least our canine hero is well hydrated.
21:09I've had a good look for another suspect.
21:11If there was another one,
21:13we've not been able to find him,
21:15but out of the four people that we think were in the car,
21:18we've got three in custody,
21:19so that's really good.
21:20Really good result.
21:21And probably prevented a lot of offences tonight.
21:24So a really good dog job
21:26and really pleased with Bryn again.
21:29Bryn.
21:30Now, how about those chicken feet?
21:35The driver of the vehicle was found guilty
21:38of driving without insurance
21:39and without a licence.
21:41He awaits sentencing.
21:44No charges were brought in relation
21:47to the suspected attempted theft from a lorry
21:49and the other two suspects were released without charge.
21:57The driver of the vehicle.
21:58Coming up.
21:58Yeah, we've got hardball on them.
22:00A rapid response from Bertie and Matt.
22:02Police officers, we're tied, sir.
22:04Both of you get down on the floor now.
22:06On the floor now.
22:08And...
22:08This vehicle is showing as stolen.
22:11Yep. Stolen?
22:12Yeah.
22:13Wow.
22:13The problems pile up for a hapless driver.
22:16I have a paper.
22:17I am the owner.
22:19But leave us me on the road.
22:21Well, we can't help you there, unfortunately.
22:23You've got the vehicle stolen.
22:43Mail being stabbed, being stabbed in Ketron.
22:47Halfway through their day shift...
22:49Right, we have a proper six foot.
22:52Bertie and Matt received some troubling reports
22:54from the town centre.
22:58Yeah, we're on route.
22:59We're just heading into the town now.
23:01Details are hazy,
23:02but an eyewitness claims to have seen one man
23:04attacking another with a knife.
23:07Trial, they're now saying on NK,
23:09there's potential that it's going to be a machete.
23:13Bertie puts his foot down.
23:16Where am I going?
23:17Silver Street for now.
23:21Bertie's been on the force nearly 25 years.
23:23He's a taser-trained advanced driver
23:25with a dream of one day owning a Lamborghini.
23:30Until then, the unmarked Beamer 340i will have to do.
23:35We're just about to come on Silver Street.
23:37Control, where are these two lads with the machetes, please?
23:43The town centre CCTV team has clocked two potential suspects
23:47walking away from the incident.
23:50Are they the ones grey hood up?
23:53Is that the dog?
23:56Yeah, we've got eyeball on them.
24:00The shifty looking pair are at Bertie's one o'clock.
24:05He moves in, but two female pedestrians are potentially in the way.
24:10Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
24:13Just let them clear the ladies.
24:15Go on then.
24:18Police officers, we're taser!
24:20Both of you get down on the floor now!
24:22On the floor!
24:23Now!
24:23Get on the floor!
24:24Kneel down for me, mate.
24:25All right?
24:26Just keep your hands where I can see them.
24:28Get your girl on the floor, face down on the floor.
24:30Keep your hands where I can see them, OK?
24:33At the moment, you're detained for a surgeon, section one,
24:35and the police have cleared haven't sat.
24:37We've had information suggesting you're in possession
24:39of a large weapon or a blade.
24:40Get on the floor!
24:42Stay down!
24:44Bertie's suspect is compliant.
24:45But the other fella's twitchy behaviour is giving cause for concern.
24:50Put your arms on top of your head.
24:52Hands on top of your head.
24:54Matt reckons he's up to something.
24:56Get your hand out from underneath you now!
24:59He's just dropped something down there.
25:03Before he can be coughed, the bloke squeezes his arm out
25:06and seems to slip something down the drain.
25:11Is your dog friendly?
25:14Two detaining cuffs.
25:15I've got a dog.
25:16I need someone with me as well.
25:18While they wait for backup, Bertie starts his Q&A.
25:22All right, grounds for the search, OK?
25:23You've been identified by people as potentially being involved
25:27in some sort of assault involving a knife, OK?
25:30Someone's trying to assault me.
25:31Someone's trying to put a knife on me, bro.
25:32Someone's pulled a knife on you.
25:33I'm trying to film myself.
25:34Check out the cameras before you start coming to me, bro.
25:37The guys...
25:39Right, so if you want to tell me...
25:40I don't want to tell you nothing.
25:42I don't want to tell you nothing.
25:42So you don't want to tell me?
25:42I try to get it.
25:43So how am I supposed to help you if you ain't going to tell me?
25:45That's what you've got to do.
25:46The man is claiming that him and his mate are, in fact,
25:49the real victims,
25:51but refuses to give details of their alleged attacker.
25:55My name's PZ Bland from the Rhodes policing team.
25:58I've had information to suggest you've been seen on CCTV
26:00carrying a bladed weapon.
26:01That's a lie.
26:02So you're going to be searched for any objects
26:03that are bladed or sharpened.
26:05Where was this, sir?
26:06Down there on Silver Street.
26:07What?
26:08Yeah.
26:09He can mull that one over while Matt pats him down.
26:13All right, what's in your pockets?
26:14Nothing.
26:15Just turn away from me, mate.
26:17OK.
26:17I'm going to search your bag first.
26:18What's in your bag?
26:20Nothing sharp.
26:20Nothing sharp.
26:21Any drugs?
26:22No.
26:22Well, maybe just a tiny bit of weed.
26:25Apart from a small amount of cannabis,
26:27the bloke is clean,
26:28but Matt knows this job isn't over yet.
26:32I don't know what's down there,
26:33so at the moment...
26:33I don't know what's down there either.
26:34...the handcuffs will stay on.
26:35So you can continue to plead your innocence,
26:37but you've dropped something down that drain
26:39and you didn't want us to find it.
26:40Before they can open up the drain...
26:42This is pricks, man.
26:44Bertie pops his suspect in the motor...
26:46Just watch your foot.
26:48...and gets on the radio.
26:50They're obviously denying it was them.
26:52They're saying they've been attacked by somebody else,
26:55but they don't want to make a complaint about it so far.
27:01The wall of silence on the street is all too familiar for the interceptors.
27:06But answers to one particular mystery could be lurking underground.
27:14The lad that I stopped was relatively compliant.
27:16Matt's has made a bit more of an issue of it.
27:20Matt's obviously got him on the ground.
27:23And just as I've turned around, I've seen him discard something down the drain.
27:26I didn't get a really good view of it, but from what I did see,
27:28it looked like it's probably going to be a lock knife.
27:31So we're just going to try and get the drain up,
27:33use some magnets and some special bits of kit,
27:35see if we can recover what he's chucked away.
27:37The interceptors carry all sorts of nifty gadgets
27:40to help them access places that you really wouldn't want to put your hands.
27:45You're going to scoop? Yeah.
27:47So neither Bertie nor Matt will need to rummage through that nasty-looking slop.
27:52I don't think it's very full, Wesley.
27:57Yeah? Oh, you got it. Well done.
28:00Yeah, that's it.
28:02There you are, Matt.
28:04So it's a lock knife, so you're going to be coming to custody, mate.
28:07Six, four. If it helps, we've just recovered a lock knife from the drain,
28:13which I think is probably going to be about three to four inches in length.
28:17A lock knife has a blade that can be locked in place
28:20or refolded at the push of a button.
28:23This makes it different to an ordinary folding knife
28:26and carrying one in a public place without good reason is an offence.
28:30I wouldn't want it pointed at me.
28:33It's a sad reflection of society, isn't it,
28:35that people feel the need to wander around town with that in their pocket.
28:41The knife is seized and will be destroyed.
28:44And while one man is free to go,
28:46his mate who tossed the blade is off to custody.
28:50We don't know who he is, we don't know what he's involved in,
28:52we don't know what his intent is,
28:53so there's every chance he could have used that against us
28:56or another member of the public,
28:57and it's a risk that we have to face coming to work.
28:59But we're trained for it,
29:00and hopefully he'll get what he deserves to carry a knife in the town centre,
29:05especially when it's busy and there's kids milling about.
29:08It's just not ideal.
29:10When he got to the nick,
29:12it was discovered the suspect was already serving a 12-month suspended sentence
29:16for a previous offence of carrying a knife.
29:20He pleaded guilty to both charges,
29:22and this time he was locked up for nine months.
29:32In the UK, 11,000 ANPR cameras are trained on our roads,
29:37capturing more than 50 million images every day
29:41and feeding them to the police national computer.
29:44This hidden network is a critical component of an interceptor's toolkit.
29:50If we get intelligence or we get some information about a crime
29:55or a car that's linked to a crime,
29:57a marker can be put on it,
29:59then it goes out onto the system
30:02and then whenever that vehicle hits up anywhere in the country,
30:06it will activate a camera
30:07and then whoever's looking at the cameras for that area
30:11will see that marker
30:12and then literally it will read the number plate,
30:15you can click into it,
30:16you can check who the car's insured to,
30:18what the marker is there for,
30:20what the information is
30:21and what they want doing with it.
30:22It tells us all sorts of information.
30:24So much of our daily business comes from ANPR.
30:43It's a sunny Sunday morning.
30:46Now at 1-1 we'll go to 15, we're just a couple of minutes away.
30:51Regular partners Keith and Michael are in the Mark III series
30:54on the lookout for a car that's been reported as nicked.
31:11The Skoda's number plate has pinged an ANPR camera on the M1
31:15and been photographed.
31:17But something about the photo doesn't add up with the car's registered details.
31:22Well they've got it down as a white car
31:24and it's clearly a blue car on the photo.
31:30So we shall head down to 15, sit on top and have a little look for this car.
31:36It may be that they've cloned it to hide its identity.
31:41How long ago did that hit?
31:43Just three minutes ago.
31:45Okay.
31:47Michael once had a job delivering beer for a local brewery
31:50but these days only rolls out the barrel when he and Keith have locked up a wrong'un.
31:571-1, we're on top of 15 now.
32:00The Skoda was last spotted heading northbound five minutes ago.
32:05Right. Eyes down.
32:08Keep them peeled, Michael. This shouldn't take long.
32:16There it is.
32:17What?
32:17Yeah, it's blue.
32:19Control, it is blue, not white.
32:22With confirmation that the Skoda is not in its registered colour,
32:26suspicion grows that the car could be a clone.
32:30There he is.
32:34Keith gets in front of it while Michael flicks on the follow me's.
32:401-1, it's a male driver, female front passenger.
32:44The boys will need somewhere safe to pull him over.
32:49Yeah.
32:50Oh, yeah.
32:50Yeah, it's coming.
32:531-1, we've got to comply.
32:55It's lane one.
32:58Roger.
33:00Northampton Services is 200 yards up ahead.
33:03Do you want to take her into the truck park or the car park?
33:05The car park's alright, innit?
33:09For most of us, the services are a handy place to grab a coffee and stretch the legs.
33:131-5, you come out from 15A.
33:16Yes, yes, we're off from 15A into the services.
33:19But for this fella, it's unlikely to be a welcome break.
33:26Hello.
33:29Um, slight issue.
33:31Huh?
33:32The index of this car comes back to a white car, not a blue one.
33:36Any reason why that would be?
33:37Yeah, because we just don't usually change the colour.
33:40You change the colour?
33:41What, you re-sprayed it?
33:45Turn it off.
33:45Jump out for me.
33:46OK.
33:47OK.
33:49The driver says the car used to be white, but he sprayed it blue just two days ago.
33:54Where are you from?
33:56I'm coming now from Denmark.
33:58You come from Denmark?
33:59Yeah.
34:00OK.
34:00Going back to Ireland.
34:01Going back to Ireland?
34:02Yeah.
34:03Right.
34:04OK.
34:05So, this vehicle is shown as stolen?
34:08Yep.
34:08Stolen?
34:09Yeah.
34:10Wow.
34:11We don't know that.
34:13The man is adamant the car is his.
34:15Is this you, is it?
34:17Yeah.
34:18And reckons he's got the paperwork to prove it.
34:21Why did you take it to Denmark?
34:23Because I'm working in Denmark.
34:26It's my kids, my wife, everything in Ireland.
34:29Right.
34:30North Ireland.
34:31Is that your wife, is it?
34:32No, my wife.
34:33I'm just a friend.
34:34Friend.
34:34Yeah.
34:35So, who would say that you've stolen the vehicle, then?
34:39Is your wife in Ireland?
34:41I was from Ireland.
34:43Right.
34:43So, would she call in to the police to say that the car's been stolen?
34:47Do you know?
34:48Well, I don't know.
34:50Well, the man's wife is at home in Northern Ireland.
34:53That's not his wife.
34:54No.
34:56He's been on a trip to Denmark with someone else.
35:00What do we know about the circumstances for this vehicle?
35:03Shouldn't take Michael long to get to the bottom of this one.
35:07What's your wife's name?
35:09Victoria?
35:09Yeah.
35:10She's reported his car as stolen.
35:13What?
35:14It's my car.
35:15How is he reported his car as stolen?
35:17Wow.
35:18It turns out the man's wife is the registered keeper and while he was in Denmark with his
35:23mystery companion, she reported it stolen.
35:26And that's not all.
35:28There's also no insurance and notified off-road.
35:31Oh, is it?
35:31Yeah.
35:33She's cancelled the insurance too.
35:35Right, so what's going to happen is we're going to be seizing the vehicle and you're
35:38going to have to find another way of getting back to Northern Ireland without your car.
35:42You're going to get reported for driving the vehicle with no insurance, no tax.
35:46We're not going to report you for the stolen side of it because we don't know the ins and
35:49outs of that, but we know who you are.
35:50If we do need to deal with you for the stolen side of it, we will deal with that side.
35:54OK?
35:55My own car.
35:56And my wife says I've stolen my own car.
35:58Yeah.
35:59How is it possible?
36:00Well, it's very possible, isn't it?
36:02You can steal a car that belongs to a partner.
36:05We get that a lot.
36:06It does happen.
36:17Why the man's wife would deliberately cause him and his mystery female companion so much
36:23grief is anyone's guess.
36:28I just find it very strange how you would leave your wife and children in Northern Ireland
36:33and come back with another girl in your car.
36:37I wonder why there's a problem.
36:38Yeah.
36:40I've no idea what you mean, chaps.
36:42I think the wife's cottoned onto something.
36:47The couple must now make their own way from Northampton Services to Northern Ireland,
36:52a journey of around 450 miles.
36:55We're here for the fact that it's a stolen car, it's not taxed, it's not insured,
37:01and we've made that decision to take the car and then you've got him then
37:05suggesting that, but it's my car, I've got to keep my car, how am I going to get to Northern
37:09Ireland?
37:09We have to put that aside and say, look, that's your problem, we'll try and help you where we can,
37:15but you've caused this to happen, so we've got to deal with the law side of it,
37:20take that car away, get the vehicle battery's rightful owner, and he's then got to fight his own battle.
37:28It's a battle that could be more domestic than legal.
37:31Well, well done wife, that's what I was saying.
37:35No action was taken against the man for theft of a vehicle, but for having no tax or insurance,
37:41he was ordered to pay more than £1,000 in fines and given six points on his licence.
37:48Still to come. The brakes have failed.
37:51A Nissan cash guy gets intimate with a residential block.
37:55This is going to need a structural engine here to come out and assess it,
37:59because it has pushed the entire side of a three-storey building in.
38:26If you can go over the bumps a bit faster, mate, that'd be great.
38:29It's Monday morning.
38:324x4 got into the building.
38:34One female driver, she's out of the vehicle.
38:36She does not appear injured.
38:38En route to a job on the edge of the town centre are Paul and Tony.
38:42Yeah, so we've had a call come in from a member of the public stating
38:45that there's a white 4x4 crashed into a building near a casino.
38:49I'm going with poor driving.
38:51Yeah, but there's poor driving and then there's crashing into a house or a building.
38:56There's no further details yet.
38:59The crash location is just a couple of minutes' drive away.
39:03Is it going to be the little road that runs up next to the casino?
39:06Yeah.
39:08In the meantime, any theories, gents?
39:11Maybe they've just lost loads of money at the casino.
39:14I'm really pissed off just driving this wall.
39:18Firearms cop Paul is not a gambling man.
39:20Instead, he prefers the finer things of life,
39:22like Arnold Schwarzenegger films and the music of the Backstreet Boys.
39:32There we go.
39:33And on this particular Backstreet, he's practically lost for words.
39:38OK, yeah.
39:41She's...
39:41Wow.
39:44But it's not every day you see a Nissan Qashqai
39:47hanging out the front of a residential block.
39:50Hello.
39:51Where's...
39:52Where's the driver gone?
39:53She's...
39:53She's gone upstairs to the next block to bring the insurance company.
39:57Cool.
39:57Yeah.
39:57We just need to breathalise her.
39:59Yeah.
39:59And check her licence details.
40:01Yeah.
40:01Well, she's the staff.
40:02Can we get her...
40:03Can we call her to come back?
40:03Yeah, can you get her to come back?
40:06The man is a colleague of the female driver,
40:08and before she disappeared, she told him what happened.
40:12The brakes failed.
40:13Yeah.
40:14The crash was apparently caused by a problem with the Nissan's brakes.
40:19It's literally gone over the kerb, over a wall,
40:21and crashed into the side of number 23.
40:25This is gonna need a structural engine here to come out and assess it,
40:29because it has pushed the entire side of a three-storey building in.
40:34The block contains 16 separate flats.
40:37Everyone's up? Yeah.
40:38Cool, OK.
40:40Fortunately, all residents have been evacuated.
40:43It might be worth locking the door so that no-one else can go in.
40:46Yeah, OK, yeah.
40:47Because at the moment, obviously, that's pushed the whole wall in.
40:49Yeah.
40:50Which is holding all of that up.
40:51Yeah.
40:53So no-one's gonna be able to go in there at the moment.
40:56A call is put in for a builder to come and inspect the property.
41:00I'll grab the breath box.
41:02And the person at the centre of this mystery has finally emerged.
41:06Because you've been involved in RTC,
41:07we need to carry out a roadside breath test with you,
41:09so basically just see if you're on the influence of alcohol, OK?
41:12So, from what we've been told,
41:14her brakes have failed,
41:15and then the car has gone across the pavement,
41:18over the wall and into the house.
41:20That's what she's telling us has happened.
41:22It's quite an impact.
41:23It's pushed the whole of the wall in.
41:25I'd suggest if the car was just rolling,
41:27it's not much of a hill,
41:29that it perhaps wouldn't have done that, but I don't know.
41:32That's what she's telling us has happened.
41:35The driver is clearly, and perhaps understandably,
41:38in a state of shock.
41:40All you're gonna need to do is take a deep, deep breath,
41:41and then blow into the tube until I tell you to stop, OK?
41:45And when Paul gets a lungful from her...
41:47Deep breath. Blow outwards.
41:50Keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going.
41:52Stop there. Perfect.
41:55Zero. Thank you. Take the tube.
41:57It's as clean as a whistle.
41:59But the interceptors reckon there's more to this situation
42:02than meets the eye.
42:03So you put it in drive and it's just rocketed forwards and...
42:06Yeah. OK.
42:07The brakes weren't, but in the morning it was flashing the sensor.
42:11What, for the brakes?
42:13Yeah, for the lights.
42:15Did you check it or did you just carry on driving it?
42:17No, I just kept on just putting, OK, OK, OK.
42:21But I didn't check it. OK.
42:24The woman says she did receive a warning light on her car this morning
42:28about a potential problem, but decided to ignore it.
42:32Probably moving forwards, if that does happen,
42:35it's probably best just to leave your car alone and get a lift to work.
42:38OK. I thought it was just a parking sensor.
42:41Yeah.
42:42So I don't know if it affects the brakes as well.
42:45Yeah.
42:45If that happens again, you just need to leave your car
42:47and get something to check it out, OK?
42:49Just say you've hurt yourself and other people.
42:51Yeah.
42:52It seems the driver and the residents of the block
42:54have had a lucky escape.
42:57I can strut it.
42:59I can put the crossbows in and strut the wall.
43:03Meanwhile, the builders arrive to cast an expert eye over the damage.
43:07We just need to get this vehicle removed.
43:10Yeah.
43:11Let me come back first.
43:12Yeah.
43:14Before we do anything, let me come back with all the stuff.
43:17I've definitely got to put the strongbows in and hold this.
43:20It's not good news.
43:22The builder's just had a look.
43:23He's going to go and get the relevant equipment to reinforce it inside.
43:27He's just said, do not move the car until we reinforce that inside.
43:32Although the damage only appears to be cosmetic,
43:35the builder doesn't want to take any chances.
43:38I'll be back in an hour.
43:40Let me go and get all my stuff together.
43:42And I'll be back.
43:42They've had a good look and they're going to support it
43:44just in case there is any damage internally,
43:47as in for the structure side of things.
43:48The builders have said, if the car had gone any further through the steelworks,
43:51the potential of the building could have collapsed with pedestrians inside it.
43:55So the builder's going to reinforce it and then we'll get the car lifted and towed away.
43:59So speaking to the driver, she was saying that she's had issues this morning
44:02with a warning like coming a car for braking systems,
44:06yet she's carried on driving it.
44:07So I think it's going to be a case of she's just gone heavy on the accelerator
44:10and thinks she's panicked and lost control.
44:13And the next thing she knew, she's in the building.
