00:00Benjamin Netanyahu has spent years cultivating one of the most important relationships in global
00:05politics. Now that relationship may be becoming a liability. The Israeli prime minister is facing
00:13growing political pressure after Donald Trump struck a deal with Iran that much of Israel
00:19opposes. The White House says the agreement will ensure Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon
00:24and won't be allowed to keep highly enriched uranium. But many Israelis remain deeply sceptical.
00:31And the fallout is hitting Netanyahu. His support has slipped as the conflict with Iran drags on
00:37and Israel struggles to achieve some of its key strategic objectives. Trump has publicly suggested
00:43Israel nearly derailed diplomacy through its military actions against Hezbollah in Lebanon,
00:50which, like its patron Iran, is sworn to the destruction of the Jewish state.
00:55Critics argue that Israel has become too dependent on Washington and have accused Netanyahu of
01:01turning the country into a client state. Credible challenges are also emerging. Former Prime
01:07Minister Naftali Bennett is mounting a comeback. But the current frontrunner is Gadi Eisencott,
01:13a plain-spoken former general whose rise suggests that many voters are looking for something very,
01:21very different to Netanyahu's personal style. For a politician who built his reputation on security
01:27and international influence, the question now is whether those strengths are becoming political
01:33vulnerabilities.
