00:01Previously on Shark,
00:03six celebrities set out to understand sharks.
00:07There needs to be a fear of sharks,
00:09but a huge respect for them as well.
00:12And hopefully overcome fears along the way.
00:15Because we're Australian, sharks are the enemy.
00:21These sharks are dangerous,
00:23but they're gonna discover why they're so important to the ocean
00:26and how we can safely coexist with these beautiful creatures.
00:30Each shark encounter is gonna escalate in danger
00:33until you face the final challenge,
00:35diving with tiger sharks without the protection of a cage.
00:40So far, they've come face to jaws with bull sharks.
00:47That's so big.
00:49I think I want to get out.
00:51Go up.
00:52That's really full on.
00:54It's gonna be a real challenge for me to do that without a cage.
00:58Then...
01:00In pairs, you're gonna be swimming across Predator Corridor,
01:03and we know for a fact there's gonna be sharks in the water.
01:06No-one's good at swimming in sharks.
01:08It's not like, you know, an Olympic event or anything.
01:10They swam across the shark superhighway.
01:14Can you not splash so much with your fins?
01:16Just keep it nice and steady.
01:22That's been the hardest one to sort of confront.
01:24One, two, three, shark!
01:28Yeah!
01:30Before Lynn's first scuba dive...
01:32I'm bouncing around like a crazy pit.
01:35...took a dangerous turn.
01:38I've got water in the bottom of my mask.
01:43She was pretty lifeless.
01:46Her body was quite limp.
01:48You okay?
01:49I don't know.
01:49You didn't have to be a doctor to look at her and go,
01:52this is not good.
02:03The team are rushing back to shore after Lynn's mask flooded,
02:06and she inhaled water during her first scuba dive in the Bahamas.
02:12Ned?
02:13You okay, right?
02:15I was genuinely worried from the moment Lynn came up.
02:18There we go, we're about to dock.
02:20I mean, there's always levels of how bad things can go.
02:23Everything goes through your mind,
02:25and getting her back to land as soon as possible was the priority.
02:29Okay, ready?
02:30Big push through your legs.
02:31One, two, three.
02:32Well done, Lynn.
02:33First place.
02:33Secondary drowning is a danger,
02:35because it can happen right there,
02:37and it can happen days later.
02:39We don't know how much water she's drank.
02:41You know, is it just a small amount?
02:42Was there multiple amounts?
02:44So we just couldn't risk it.
02:46Just settle for a second.
02:49The coughing, you know,
02:51sounded like the gurgling of water in her lungs,
02:54and that's when I was then like,
02:56this is now a major concern.
02:58How are you feeling?
02:59I was trying to control my breathing.
03:02I'm keeping an eye on your oxygen levels,
03:05but if you feel them well in any way, let me know.
03:07Lynn's oxygen levels need to stabilise
03:10before the team can decide if she needs further treatment.
03:19Where is she now?
03:20Where is she now?
03:24If such as I can.
03:25Yeah.
03:27Okay, cool.
03:27Matt will come back.
03:29No, just like he was updated on her.
03:32Everyone here loves Lynn.
03:33From that night, it was a bit shocking.
03:35It's quite confronting seeing someone on the back of the boat
03:39looking really out of it with oxygen on.
03:41You just don't expect to pop up from underwater and see that.
03:44What's going on?
03:46I don't know.
03:46I fell on the floor.
03:48But I saw Lynn, though,
03:50not be able to get off the motor.
03:52Like, she was just on her knees.
03:54I don't think she let anything hails over.
03:56Oh, .
03:57It was hard enough going in there
03:59and being comfortable anyway
04:00with all this stuff that you've got on.
04:02Yeah, I mean, I'm just...
04:04certain for her.
04:06Lynn is my favourite person.
04:08I was so...
04:09My heart was broken for her
04:10that she had such a scary experience.
04:13We didn't know what was happening.
04:15We didn't know if she was okay.
04:16It was just a really sick, sad feeling.
04:21Marianne, can I borrow you
04:22and come and sit you over here, please?
04:24Oh, I'm not doing any...
04:25Until she's all right, I'm not speaking.
04:26Yeah.
04:27I can't talk about it.
04:27I want to hear you talking.
04:28No, no, no.
04:29When she's okay,
04:30I don't know what's going to happen to her yet.
04:32And if something happens,
04:33**** up.
04:33I'm not...
04:34When you guys give me the okay
04:36that she's okay,
04:37and she's out of danger,
04:38then I'll talk to her.
04:40Until that time,
04:40I'm not saying any.
04:42I think she's okay.
04:43Well, I'll...
04:44When I hear that call,
04:46then...
04:47Because when I go on the boat,
04:49she looked...
04:50****.
04:51I'll talk about it,
04:52but when she's okay,
04:53that's when I'll talk.
04:54Saying it work.
04:56Because that's not right.
04:59I'm gonna send Paul over.
05:01And he can tell us that she's okay,
05:02then I'll talk.
05:03In the middle of something,
05:05not knowing when she's okay
05:06is not appropriate.
05:06It's not happening.
05:07No worries.
05:15Lynn's oxygen levels have not stabilised.
05:18She will need further treatment
05:20at a mainland hospital.
05:22So, just so you know,
05:24we are gonna have to fly you out to the US
05:27for some further medical care.
05:29Yes.
05:29Yeah, unfortunately.
05:31So, although you're feeling better now,
05:33you've taken on board quite a lot of seawater on your lungs,
05:36which can have ongoing complications.
05:38Yeah.
05:38So, we really need you to get chest x-rays,
05:41your blood's done,
05:42see a doctor,
05:43try and prevent anything else from happening.
05:46So, that's what we're trying to arrange now.
05:48Sorry.
05:49No, it's not what you wanted to hear.
05:51No, it's not what you wanted to hear.
05:51We have you well looked after.
05:53Yeah.
05:53You'll be with medical people the whole time.
05:55Yeah.
05:55And we just, obviously, we just don't want anything to deteriorate on this small island
05:59where there's no additional help.
06:01Of course.
06:02All right?
06:02I get it, yeah.
06:03So, we're just getting the wheels in motion for that to happen.
06:06Sure.
06:10We got everyone?
06:12All right, cool.
06:13There has been an incident with Lynn.
06:15We put her in the water, everything was fine.
06:17She was flapping around a little bit, a little bit of panic
06:19because she hadn't really worked out her buoyancy.
06:22Her instructor gave me the signal that he was gonna take her to the surface
06:26between her leaving the bottom and getting to the surface.
06:29Something has happened, whether it's fatigue, whether her mask filled up.
06:33She came up and she was a bit pale, but the colors come back into her cheeks.
06:36We put her on pure oxygen.
06:38She seems fine, so I don't think there's gonna be anything lasting
06:41that is going to go wrong.
06:44But we're gonna medically evacuate her for treatment.
06:48Jesus.
06:49Listen to whatever the doctors say.
06:51We're gonna listen to whatever Lynn says.
06:53So, stand by for further information.
06:54We'll let you know anything that we find out straight away.
06:58Yeah.
06:58That would be terrifying.
06:59That's so sad.
07:01I think at the end of the day, we just wanted to know that Lynn was okay.
07:05I feel for her that the thing that she was most nervous about,
07:08which she likes to call the gadgetry,
07:10has probably let her down at the end of the day.
07:12I'm gonna get to see if she's going up.
07:19Thank you, Lynn.
07:21You're inspirational of what you've done.
07:23Oh, thank you.
07:24Really.
07:24So much respect for your love to get better.
07:26Thank you, darling.
07:28All the other celebs, they're worried she might not be able to come back.
07:32I'm really sad that you're leaving right now.
07:34I hope so.
07:37I'll never know.
07:38And I get it, because I feel the same way.
07:40But we want her to be safe.
07:42And we need to make sure that she's gonna be alright after this.
07:47The nearest hospital is a 30-minute flight away in Florida.
07:52So Lynn will have to be transferred by boat to a medivac helicopter.
07:56We're all extremely worried.
07:59Lynn's a beautiful person, and we love her.
08:00And no-one likes to see anyone in that situation.
08:03And we certainly didn't want to see her go and not finish.
08:06So, you know, I said I really felt emotional.
08:10Thank you so much.
08:11I'll see you when you come back.
08:12I certainly will.
08:13Okay.
08:13I think you've got everything.
08:14We've gone for everything.
08:15You've got everything now.
08:16Mm-hmm.
08:17All right.
08:23I think as the boat was driving away,
08:25I felt like I was having to give up my part of the control.
08:39I just don't like seeing people just that freaked out.
08:51I'm genuinely so scared this year.
08:54I have, like, second-degree drowning.
08:58Okay.
09:02I've seen a lot of different things.
09:04Um, it's been a minute since I was that scared for someone's life.
09:10Yeah, no, I'm fine.
09:11I'm fine.
09:12Hey.
09:16So sad to see her in the wheelchair.
09:18I know.
09:19With the oxygen.
09:22I know.
09:23We all love Lynn, and we want to protect her, and it was comforting to know she was getting
09:27medivac'd out to get the best care possible.
09:31I just think it made me realize that what we're doing here is very real and can be dangerous.
09:41I really hope she comes back and she's feeling okay.
09:49Coming up.
09:50All right, let's suit up.
09:51Lynn almost didn't come back from her dive qualifier.
09:54Big stride.
09:56That's my biggest fear.
09:57The breathing bit.
09:58Oh.
09:59Javi, what you doing?
10:01That is hugely dangerous.
10:04And later.
10:05Today is definitely gonna be your toughest challenge yet.
10:08Don't look down.
10:09Oh, my God.
10:11They're everywhere.
10:13We call this challenge the line of terror.
10:15Doesn't have a nice name, line of terror.
10:18The point of line of terror is so that you know how to handle yourselves in the water when approached
10:23by a shark.
10:25They will approach you.
10:27This is the scariest thing that we have done so far.
10:30Oh, my God.
10:32Seeing 35 sharks, and we're about to get in the water with them.
10:36I'm absolutely horrified.
10:55It's a bit sad that Lynn's not here.
10:57I feel like we have a little bit of a hole where the sun's gone because Lynn isn't here.
11:02It was a traumatic experience for her yesterday.
11:05Traumatic for both of you's two being on the boat, Matt and Arnie.
11:08It was pretty scary.
11:10Since getting to know Lynn, she is just one of the most unbelievable people I've ever met.
11:16She has this kindness to her heart, but also she's just hilarious.
11:20She really brings the group together.
11:22So I really hope she comes back and she's feeling okay.
11:26Good morning.
11:27Morning.
11:27Morning.
11:28How y'all feeling today?
11:29Yeah.
11:30Ish.
11:31Ish.
11:32Yeah.
11:32We wanted to gather you all just to give you a little update on Lynn.
11:36As you know, she did travel to Florida and was admitted to a medical facility.
11:40A thorough investigation into the incident has been conducted.
11:44We do know that she was struggling with her buoyancy and exhaustion.
11:48Doctors have done a series of tests and there is no concern of secondary drowning.
11:54This morning, she's feeling much better.
11:57And in true Lynn style, she's desperate to get back and get her hands on a good cup of coffee.
12:02So we are really hopeful that she is going to return.
12:06Well, that's good news.
12:06Yeah.
12:07Yay.
12:07I'm so glad that she's okay.
12:10I'm so glad she's getting the treatment she needs, getting looked after, feeling good
12:14in good spirits.
12:15I'm really, really happy to hear that.
12:17But as a precaution, we are going to give you some additional miles training in the pool
12:21because we really want you to be as comfortable and as confident as you can be going into these
12:26next challenges.
12:27I'm not going to rock up to a game of footy with no footy boots and a mouth guard.
12:32That'd be silly of me.
12:33Knowing and understanding that you've done the training that you need to do.
12:36It would definitely give me enough confidence to be my bravest self.
12:41The celebrities completed a certified dive course and mask training in Australia.
12:47But a refresher in mask training will hopefully ensure that what happened with Lynn won't happen again.
12:53What we're going to do is get you in a pool and just go through some basic drills.
12:59When you get water in, don't forget you've got to push the purge button to get it out.
13:04Lynn was not comfortable at all down the bottom in her qualifier.
13:08That's my biggest fear.
13:09It's not the sharks at the moment.
13:10It's more about the breathing bit.
13:11Some of you picked it up straight away.
13:13But some of you are going,
13:17You can always tell me on the comms, whatever works easiest for you guys, we can live with.
13:23I feel good that I've had a bit more training around the dive gear.
13:28It makes you think about when Lynn did it.
13:31It just kind of shows you how quickly things can turn and how serious it can get.
13:37You need to know what you're doing.
13:39You need to know how to handle yourself.
13:49After repeating their mask training, Tammy, Sam and Scotty head to an area of low shark activity to hopefully complete
13:58their dive qualifier.
14:01Alright guys, today is going to be your first dive, your first real dive in the Bahamas.
14:07What we're going to be assessing you on today is your ability to remain calm in the water.
14:11To move through the water with ease.
14:14Most importantly, your buoyancy.
14:16How you descend at a slow calm rate.
14:18How you ascend at a slow calm rate.
14:20Each of you will have a safety diver with you to guide you through.
14:24You want to stay together.
14:25There is actual safety in numbers.
14:30Alright, let's suit up.
14:35Lynn almost didn't come back from her dive qualifier.
14:39So it's obviously a little bit of nerves, but this is all about making sure that we are competent in
14:44our skills.
14:45So then we can scuba with sharks.
14:49When you get in, you're going to follow the red line to the yellow float and then make your way
14:53down with your safety diver.
14:54You ready?
14:56Let's get in it.
14:57I was confident when I did the training session in the pool.
15:00But that was two metres down in the pool.
15:03We were going to be going to 10 metres.
15:04So a little bit different with depth and equalising.
15:07Big stride.
15:10Go to the yellow float.
15:14Yep.
15:16Just descending now.
15:18On his way down.
15:21Awesome.
15:23I feel like that's too tight, yeah.
15:25Always tight.
15:27I don't love having all the scuba gear.
15:30The mask is also a bit claustrophobic.
15:33Okay, we got it.
15:38I enjoy swimming without all of that on me.
15:41So we'll see.
15:43Alright girl.
15:44She's going to go down as soon as she's ready.
15:45Here she goes.
15:46She's going down.
15:47Making her way down.
15:50Nice and steady.
15:53Good to go when you're ready.
15:58Go to the line.
15:59After the last qualifier, it's left me a little bit on edge.
16:02So I'm certainly double checking, triple checking everything.
16:06We did everything right last time, but you cannot be too prepared.
16:10Sam, make sure your mask is exactly how you want it before you go down.
16:14You feel good or you want to tighten it up?
16:15Exactly, yeah.
16:16Adjust it before you do anything else.
16:18Right, we've got Sammy going down.
16:21Nice and easy.
16:25He's doing great.
16:26Good job team.
16:28Wow.
16:29Awesome.
16:31We've got all three of them.
16:32We've got all three of them.
16:33Sammy's actually crushing it.
16:35Scott is, yeah, he's figuring it out as he goes.
16:38And Sammy's just getting used to it.
16:41It's so freeing being down there under the water.
16:44You're breathing underwater.
16:45It makes no sense.
16:47But absolutely incredible.
16:49And there's a small part of me, like, there's only a small part of that.
16:52I think I like scuba now.
16:54Hello.
16:55Everybody at home?
16:57I'm in the Bahamas.
16:58Down on the bottom of the seabed.
17:00And I'm getting ready to dive with tiger sharks.
17:02This is so good.
17:04I'm great.
17:05They're doing pretty good.
17:06None of them are flailing around.
17:08Just playing together.
17:10Except for all of Tammy.
17:11She's over here looking at fish.
17:15The water, the visibility is so good.
17:18And so many really cool fish.
17:20They were all really bright colors.
17:22I want to explore a little bit.
17:26Tammy's heading off into the distance.
17:28What's she doing?
17:31She's leaving her body behind.
17:34The ocean is unpredictable.
17:36So if you drift away from your buddy or from the group,
17:39you can get swept miles away very, very quickly.
17:42What the are you doing?
17:44What she's doing is hugely dangerous.
17:48We need to guide her back to the boat.
17:51They're together. They're together.
17:53Tammy is clearly confident.
17:55That could be a real issue when we're diving with sharks.
17:59Whenever you're in the ocean,
18:01the biggest threat is drowning and being lost at sea.
18:04So you have to have your buddy.
18:06You have to look after each other.
18:14Tammy, remember that part we said about sticking together?
18:18Um, there was too many like...
18:20I could barely see you at one point and I could see your safety diver struggling to keep up with
18:25you.
18:25You just took off.
18:26I just wanted to explore.
18:27Tammy, go.
18:28And then yeah, I turned around and everyone was so far away.
18:31Try not to do it again.
18:32We really need to keep an eye on everyone at all times.
18:35Tammy's probably my biggest concern at the moment.
18:38There's a line of confidence.
18:40You don't want overconfidence because that can lead to danger.
18:44People doing things they shouldn't do.
18:46So I want confidence, but just not too much.
18:49Oh my God.
18:51Coming up.
18:52That's massive, that thing.
18:54F*** hell.
18:55There's a lot of sharks in here right now.
18:57A lot of sharks.
18:59This is one of the hardest things they'll ever do in my entire life.
19:05White knuckling it.
19:06Literally, we are holding on for dear life.
19:09Oh, it's coming in, guys!
19:11Whoa.
19:11Oh my God.
19:12Oh!
19:13Oh, shit!
19:28Tammy and Ariane are visiting a local conch bar,
19:31which is famous for writing messages to loved ones on empty conch shells.
19:38They're so heavy.
19:41What are we going to write on these?
19:43I'm going to go,
19:44Lynn, you're my inspiration.
19:46I'm going to write,
19:47We miss you, Lynn.
19:48No, we love you.
19:50Oh, I hope Lynn comes back.
19:51Like, that would be just the best thing ever.
19:54Me, Lynn and Ariane are literally besties.
19:56I love our little dynamic.
19:57I feel like we all support each other.
20:00It's definitely a big hole with her not here.
20:11Cute.
20:12Well, we went to Friendly Joe's conch bar.
20:15Conch bar?
20:16Conch bar?
20:16Actually, it's conch.
20:17Was it this shell?
20:18Yeah.
20:19Oh.
20:19And we wrote on our shells,
20:22and we did, like, a little message for Lynn.
20:24Yeah.
20:24Because we pissed her.
20:25Yeah.
20:29Hey!
20:31Hey!
20:32There you go.
20:34Hello!
20:34Oh, my God, she's back again.
20:37Hello!
20:37Oh, my God.
20:39Oh, my God.
20:39Hello, darling.
20:40What a surprise.
20:41Hello, darling.
20:42It's so cool to see everyone again.
20:45Honestly, I really missed them.
20:48When I was in the hospital,
20:49I wasn't sure if they were going to send me back to Sydney,
20:51and I'm so pleased that they said I could come back.
20:55Hey!
20:56You look like perfect!
20:58Hey!
20:58How are you?
20:59How are you feeling?
20:59I'm good, honey.
21:01I'm good.
21:02Oh, sweet.
21:04It's so great to have her back.
21:05Lynn just adds so much to the group,
21:07so when she wasn't here, there was a bit of a hole.
21:09So, yeah, it's great that she's back, and well.
21:12Oh, it's so nice to see you.
21:14It's so nice to be back.
21:15How are you feeling, love?
21:16I'm feeling okay, love.
21:18I'm a little bit wobbly still,
21:20because I've been, like, on my back and not in a good way.
21:25What happened, Lydia?
21:27What happened?
21:27What actually happened?
21:29What happened was I was down underneath,
21:32then I felt myself the breathing getting a little, you know, laboured,
21:36and then my mask started to fill up with water,
21:39and I remember by the time I got to the surface,
21:42I was absolutely buggered.
21:43And did you get water in?
21:45Oh, shit, yeah.
21:46Did you?
21:46Oh, yeah.
21:48And that was the problem, is that when I was in the helicopter
21:51with all the handsome medics?
21:53Not that I noticed.
21:55I'm dying here.
21:56She's a good-looking.
21:57I know.
21:58Is this heaven?
22:00No.
22:02Can't breathe.
22:04Mouth-to-mouth, quickly.
22:06But when I got in there, I was really laboured.
22:11I could feel the fluid in my lungs.
22:14So you'd aspirated?
22:15Yeah, totally.
22:16Yep.
22:17I learnt that word last night, actually.
22:19Yeah.
22:19Yeah, and then somehow the fluid in your lungs just goes.
22:22Discipes, does it?
22:23Yeah, it does.
22:24It just goes.
22:25And then this morning I had no gurgle, no...
22:28Fluid there.
22:29You know, it was just, it was great.
22:31Oh, that's good.
22:31So, yeah.
22:31Oh, that's good.
22:32But I don't think I'll be diving again any time soon.
22:36Yeah.
22:37I was told by the doctors that I can't scuba dive anymore,
22:41with the fear that I might inhale more water.
22:44You can be the team mascot.
22:46I will be the team mascot.
22:47You're good.
22:47You can cheer us on.
22:48Oh, yes.
22:50Yeah.
22:50When you've got comradery, it's hard to lose a team member.
22:53So, it was great to have Lynne back and have the group back together.
22:56Cheers, everyone.
22:58Welcome back.
22:59Thank you, darling.
23:02Thank you, sweetheart.
23:04Great to be back.
23:22Lynne, welcome back from hospital.
23:24We missed you.
23:27I'm really happy to see you back.
23:30Thank you, darling.
23:31Because there's not many things, honestly, that scare me.
23:33That was one of them.
23:34That was very scary.
23:35I was not expecting you back this quickly.
23:38So, I am really, really happy to see you.
23:41It was a real...
23:42It's great to be back.
23:43The buoyancy is such an issue.
23:45It's such an issue with me.
23:46Well, all you were doing was pressing the wrong button.
23:48That's it.
23:49Every time you tried to inflate, you pressed the deflate.
23:52That's it.
23:52It was that simple.
23:53It was nothing on you.
23:55You had the skills.
23:56You had the confidence.
23:57Right.
23:57You had the strength.
23:58It was just you were getting the buttons mixed up.
23:59Getting the buttons mixed up.
24:00But I've got to tell you, I am...
24:04I am so disappointed that I'm not going to be able to get to the end goal and go on
24:13the
24:13rest of the journey with these guys underwater.
24:15I am so disappointed in that because I really, really wanted to be able to tell my children
24:23and my, you know, potentially my grandchildren down the track that I had swum with sharks.
24:31It hurts like hell to know that I can't continue on.
24:35But I also get it because I don't want to have to go through that again.
24:39I don't want to have to put other people through that again.
24:42I get that I can't do any more scuba diving because I'm just not right for it at this stage.
24:50But that doesn't mean other people my age out there shouldn't give it a red hot crack.
24:56Absolutely.
24:56Because when you get it right, it's truly a remarkable, beautiful thing.
25:01Well, as long as you want to stay with us, you are welcome to.
25:05We'd love to have you on board for the rest of the adventure.
25:07Oh darling, I would love that.
25:08Free holiday in the Bahamas.
25:12I am so invested in this.
25:14Just so happy to be here and to just encourage the others.
25:19Before we get into today's briefings,
25:23I just want to talk to you about something very sad, very serious and very sombre.
25:30Yesterday there was a shark attack in Australia.
25:35There was a fatality and critical injuries.
25:39It's tragic because I've got adult children that surf every day
25:42and every time I hear that I just think of my kids
25:45and I think of, you know, what that family's going through and it's horrific.
25:51The experts on the ground are saying that it was a bull shark
25:54and they were swimming at a very, very secluded beach
25:57and they were swimming at 6am.
25:59And so some of the precautions we would usually take is
26:02never swim at an unpatrolled secluded beach
26:05and you don't swim an hour either side of dusk or dawn.
26:09Those low light levels are the hours that sharks like to hunt.
26:13And especially bull sharks with their poor eyesight,
26:16they use the murky water and the low light levels
26:19to effectively hunt down their prey, knowing that they can't see them as well.
26:23I've come into this experience.
26:26Genuinely, I am afraid of getting bitten and dying.
26:30But I think from what we've learnt so far,
26:34even from what Paul just said about the do's and don'ts with sharks,
26:37the education on sharks isn't up to where it needs to be either.
26:41I didn't know that the reason why bull sharks attack
26:43is because they have poor eyesight.
26:44So I think the education is the piece that needs to really be honed in on at home.
26:51I've actually even realised in the past few days
26:53that I have probably put most of the blame on a shark for a shark attack.
26:59But I think it's us actually being naive to a situation.
27:03In Australia, we're told just don't go in the water, there's sharks.
27:07I think there needs to be more education around how sharks behave
27:11and why we shouldn't interfere with them at certain times.
27:15Well, you've already had a big few days,
27:18but today is definitely going to be your toughest challenge yet.
27:24We call this challenge the Line of Terror.
27:28It doesn't have a nice name, Line of Terror.
27:32So I hope we're all doing it together at the same time.
27:35Like, I really hope we're not on our own
27:38because I feel like that's so much more daunting.
27:40So today, you will be eye to eye with Caribbean reef sharks.
27:48And when I say eye to eye, I really mean it.
27:53So Caribbean reef sharks, they're big, they're bold, they're confident,
27:57and they closely guard their territory.
28:00And these sharks will approach you with no regard for your personal space.
28:05They are one of the most unpredictable species of shark,
28:09and they will defend themselves if they feel attacked.
28:13Unfortunately, they are the shark that has bitten more people than any other shark in the Bahamas.
28:18I've actually been bitten by Caribbean reef sharks three times so far.
28:23Every time wearing chain mail though, so their teeth couldn't puncture.
28:27But these teeth are designed for puncturing and slashing.
28:32Look, I know what reef sharks are.
28:34I've seen some stuff on YouTube and they can get into a frenzy.
28:38That looks scary.
28:40All right, celebs, grab your gear.
28:43Let's go to the boat.
28:46A little bit anxious with the big sharks,
28:49and so we're gonna up close and personal,
28:52which is a different ballgame.
28:54So this will be a test.
28:55Bye, Liv.
28:56Bye, guys.
28:57See ya.
28:58I wish I was coming.
29:09Oh, there they are.
29:11Hello.
29:12Don't look down.
29:13Look down.
29:15There's a shark right there.
29:16See?
29:16Where?
29:16Just here.
29:17Where?
29:18Oh, my God.
29:24Oh, there's lots of them.
29:26Oh, there's one there.
29:26There's one.
29:27Oh, that's big.
29:28Oh, my God.
29:31Oh, there's so many.
29:32Oh, my gosh.
29:33They're everywhere.
29:35Everywhere.
29:36Body's probably didn't expect them to be as large as they are.
29:41Wow.
29:43This is tough.
29:45This is big.
29:47People wouldn't believe what we're doing here.
29:50Are you excited?
29:51No.
29:52Look at it.
29:52I'm not excited.
29:53There's too many of them.
29:54Like, if you saw that out fishing,
29:55you wouldn't get in the water in a million years.
29:58They're not small.
29:59They're not reef sharks as we would think reef sharks are.
30:02They're big sharks.
30:02They're eight foot.
30:05That's a big shark.
30:06And there's literally 35 of them just swimming around.
30:10What the ?
30:23Whoa.
30:26Oh, wow.
30:27Wow.
30:29So welcome to Triangle Rocks.
30:32Home to an abundance of Caribbean reef sharks.
30:35Yes.
30:37We can see that.
30:38They're everywhere.
30:39A good welcoming party.
30:41They're just way bigger than I thought.
30:43I didn't think that reef sharks...
30:45Reef sharks can get to about three metres.
30:47There's one that was about 2,500 right there.
30:50These sharks are big and they are predatory,
30:52and they will investigate if they're curious
30:54or they're stirred up because of movement in the water.
30:57They can bite and they can cause quite a lot of damage.
31:00Thanks.
31:01The point of Line of Terror is so that you know
31:03how to handle yourselves in the water when approached by a shark.
31:06If you make it to the end goal of diving with tiger sharks,
31:09the big beast of the Bahamas,
31:11there's every chance they will come close,
31:14and we'll need to know that you can stay calm.
31:17So, please listen to me and Annie,
31:19and anyone else on the boat, the safety divers.
31:21You will be safe, I promise you.
31:24Being, you know, in open water with sharks
31:27and using the word safe, that could be contradictory.
31:29There's a part of me that thinks this is a little silly to be doing.
31:34There's a lot of sharks in the water.
31:35Yeah.
31:37There will be a line from the back of the boat over to a float.
31:40We'll get you in one by one, and you will grip the line.
31:43You will be snorkeling at the surface.
31:46You must put your fins up to create a barrier between you and the sharks.
31:50It's really important that you keep your hands on the line at all times,
31:53because any splashing, any hand movements,
31:56these sharks are so conditioned to splashing.
31:59I cannot emphasise that enough.
32:01Definitely the hardest thing for me is going to be no splashing
32:04or letting go or something like that,
32:06because I get, like, startled easily.
32:08And they look pretty, like, active.
32:11They look like they're quite feisty.
32:16Either one was to come past your fins, keep your hands on the line,
32:20and use your arms to kind of block them like this.
32:24When you get in, they will approach you, so be aware of that.
32:28Are they going to touch us?
32:29Honestly, they may touch you, yeah.
32:31They do something called a rush sometimes,
32:33where they'll come in really hot, and most of the time they'll turn away.
32:36But you need to make sure you don't react in a negative way.
32:39If a shark does touch you, don't panic.
32:41Don't kick your legs, because that's just going to draw in more sharks.
32:44They're going to think food is in the water,
32:46and that's going to create a feeding frenzy.
32:49This exercise is designed to show you
32:51that sharks might be curious about us,
32:53but they don't see humans as food,
32:56and they don't instinctively want to attack us.
32:59If someone spots one that's a bit off,
33:03will we get out straight away?
33:05Yeah, we have people in the water the whole time
33:07that's going to be talking to us.
33:08I'm going to be in the water as well on the comms.
33:10So if anything is out of the ordinary,
33:12be assured we're going to pull you out.
33:22All right, well, it's time to decide who's getting in first.
33:25Now, the first person is going to be in the water the longest,
33:28and they're also going to be on the end of the line alone.
33:31The last person in will be closest to the boat,
33:35but also getting into the water when the sharks are already curious
33:38because we have movement in the water.
33:48Might as well just do it, eh?
33:49I'll go first.
33:51Yes.
33:52Well done.
33:53I would not want to go first.
33:55They're a lot bigger than I thought.
33:57Some of the ones that we've seen off the back of the boat
34:00are pretty damn big,
34:02but I was unsure if anyone else was going to volunteer,
34:05so I just put my hand up.
34:08I'll go second.
34:09I don't want to be on like the edge.
34:10I don't want to be on the end either.
34:11I'll go on the end, that's fine.
34:13Let's do it.
34:14Get after it.
34:15Let's go. Suit up.
34:16The thing that I'm just grappling with is, you know,
34:19if we were at home on a boat
34:21and you saw this many sharks,
34:23you're just not getting in the water,
34:24and trying to just switch that in your brain
34:26and think that you're going to be okay
34:28is really hard to do.
34:30If you want.
34:31This is just not normal.
34:33Yeah, no, we're fine, darling.
34:35Bye.
34:37This is trying to enjoy it, darling.
34:39I don't know how you would approach this
34:41without having a healthy amount of fear
34:43about what you're about to do.
34:46I mean, they're sharks.
34:47They want to bite you.
34:47You're going to bite you.
34:48So, I'm nervous.
34:53All right, guys.
34:54Yeah, I'll see you on the other side.
34:57This is going to be the ultimate test.
35:00This is the first time they are going to be face-to-face
35:03with a shark of a decent size.
35:09Yeah, this is the scariest thing that we have done so far.
35:14What was that?
35:17There's a shark there.
35:18Look, they're all coming.
35:21There they are.
35:28This is the quietest I've ever seen you.
35:32I'm getting a sense that you might actually be quite nervous.
35:35Yeah, there's a fair bit of processing going on at the moment,
35:38so I usually internalise those types of things.
35:42All right, can we get our full-back into position?
35:45That'll be you, Sammy.
35:47Hey, Sammy.
35:51The line of terror.
35:52When it comes to the shark stuff,
35:54I've been okay until right now.
35:57There was at least ten sharks at the back of the boat.
36:00Plonk your bum down there, slip on your fins,
36:02and then we'll slip you in the water.
36:05But I've always been a doer,
36:06and through as a professional rugby league player,
36:09there's a sense of not wanting to let yourself down,
36:13let your teammates down.
36:14So even though I am scared of getting in the water,
36:17I'm still going to push through my own feelings
36:20and hopefully give confidence to everyone else.
36:23Good stuff, Sammy.
36:24All right, mate.
36:25Go, Sammy!
36:28Just make your way over to the orange rope.
36:33I've got his one right there.
36:35Look at that.
36:42As soon as I jumped in, there was sharks everywhere.
36:49It's not natural, is it, mate?
36:51I am worried.
36:52Yes.
36:53We're seeing 35 sharks,
36:55and we're about to get in the water with them.
36:57I'm absolutely horrified.
37:01Jesus Christ.
37:02Good to go.
37:04Good to go.
37:05Scotty.
37:06Over to the orange line.
37:18I found it.
37:21On the end of the rope, white knuckling it,
37:24next to Scotty.
37:25It was really nerve-racking.
37:27Hell.
37:28Oh, my God.
37:31Hell.
37:41Good to go.
37:53These are way bigger than I thought.
37:55Look at this guy.
37:57Oh, my God.
37:58That's the rope of death.
38:00On the end of the rope, white-knuckling it next to Scotty cam,
38:04it was really nerve-wracking.
38:06These Caribbean reef sharks are unpredictable.
38:08One wrong move, they can turn on a dime.
38:11How am I supposed to get in there?
38:12You'll do it.
38:14Look at this guy coming in.
38:17The light of terror is a really essential part
38:20of the celebrity's journey.
38:21We need to judge how the celebrity is going to react
38:24when they see sharks.
38:25There's so many of them circling around.
38:29The celebrities need to be confident in their ability
38:32to remain calm because floating at the surface,
38:35your legs dangling, you can't see below you,
38:37it can be extremely emotionally challenging.
38:43I just gave a pinch down.
38:46His fins are kicking, which then makes the sharks more inquisitive.
38:50They want to come closer.
38:52And literally, we are holding on for dear life.
38:59Oh, that's so close.
39:00Come on, Tim.
39:01Come on.
39:01Come on.
39:02Come on.
39:02What's up?
39:05Your first instinct, like, when I was, like, getting in,
39:08I, like, didn't want to put my feet in
39:10because you don't really think to, like, get in there
39:13when you see, like, sharks that close.
39:17Wait for sharks.
39:17Wait, do I have to, like, swim over there?
39:19Yeah.
39:20Put your snorkel in.
39:24Good job.
39:25And just jump in?
39:26Just slide in.
39:27Oh, my God.
39:28All right.
39:33What?
39:34And just make your way over to, like, Orange Road?
39:44Oh, my God.
39:48You're all right?
39:49You're all right?
39:49Oh, my God.
39:53Oh, my God.
39:58There's a lot of screaming.
40:00Sharks have quite good hearing, too.
40:04That's massive, that thing.
40:05That's huge.
40:07Initially, getting in is a massive challenge for me.
40:09I think that's the barrier, actually getting in.
40:11There had to be at least 20 sharks in there.
40:14All right.
40:15You ready?
40:16Yeah.
40:17All right.
40:18Let's wait for this big shark.
40:20It's a challenge to conquer that fear.
40:23But I knew if I wanted to get on to bigger challenges,
40:27I had to do this.
40:29You're going to be great.
40:30You're going to be great, all right?
40:31Yeah.
40:33This is one of the hardest things I'll ever do in my entire life.
40:40All right.
40:41I'm just going to slide calmly into the water
40:42and make your way over to the orange line, OK?
40:45Use your legs, don't use your arms.
40:47When you're ready.
40:48Good girl.
40:49That's it.
40:55Oh, my God.
40:57You're good.
41:00Oh, my God.
41:03Are you snorkeling?
41:05There's a lot of reef sharks in here right now.
41:08A lot of reef sharks.
41:11Oh, my God.
41:18I'm so close.
41:20Good work, Harry.
41:21Good work.
41:22Good work.
41:23I can't believe how, like, close they're coming.
41:30OK.
41:34It's like an AFL game under there.
41:36They're everywhere.
41:37Good to go.
41:51And we're away.
41:52Everyone's in the water.
41:53Yeah.
41:54Let's go.
41:56Woo!
42:00You can really see the size of them when they're next to us
42:04in that place.
42:04They're an intimidating size.
42:13They're getting braver.
42:14They're coming in closer.
42:17Woo!
42:18Right on your feet.
42:19Sharks are getting a little folded out.
42:21It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.
42:24Come on behind you.
42:26One of the lessons you need to learn
42:28is to keep your head on a swivel.
42:30Make sure you're looking in all directions.
42:33Ari's created a fin wall.
42:35There's nothing getting close to those legs.
42:38I was doing anything to keep them away from me.
42:40A couple of times there, fin clipped my bum,
42:43which is just scary.
42:44That was scary that they came that close.
42:47Jesus Christ!
42:50The sharks are everywhere!
42:52Everywhere!
42:53They're so close.
42:58Maddie, hold on to the line, mate.
43:00Both hands.
43:01Taking your arms off this line is dangerous enough.
43:04Any splashing, we could be in real trouble.
43:06So they must keep their hand on the line at all times.
43:09At the moment, the sharks are really chill.
43:11The bait box is up the front of the boat.
43:13We didn't want to scare them too badly from the outset.
43:16But what we're going to do is
43:17we're going to bring the bait box back
43:19so the sharks come in closer to our celebrities.
43:22It's quite a view from when you're in the water
43:24and you see 30 sharks come from under the boat
43:26to attack a piece of bait.
43:28A lot of predatory instinct, a lot of teeth,
43:31a lot of thrashing, the water bubbles.
43:33That can be very scary.
43:35Then we'll see if they react properly.
43:37We want them to see that sharks
43:38will be swimming around them, not interested in humans.
43:42All right, get ready, guys.
43:43We're going to bring the bait box a little closer to you.
43:45Which means the sharks are going to come closer.
43:48Here we go.
43:50Oh, it's coming in, guys!
43:53Oh, my God.
43:55Oh, look at them all come in.
43:56It means they're getting a little mental down here right now.
44:00Oh, my God.
44:01Oh, my God.
44:02Whoa.
44:04Oh, man.
44:06The sharks are, like, all around them.
44:10Oh, my God.
44:13Oh, shit!
44:21We're going to throw in a little bit of bait in the water now.
44:23Here we go.
44:26Oh, it's coming in, guys!
44:29Oh.
44:30Oh, look at them all come in.
44:32It brings to getting a little mental down here right now.
44:36Oh, my God.
44:37Oh, my God.
44:38Whoa.
44:45We want them to see the sharks will just be swimming around them, not interested.
44:50I know you're getting tired, guys, but do not let go of the rope.
44:53There's a lot of sharks around you at the moment.
44:56You're doing great.
44:57This is a huge deal for people that are afraid of sharks, to be able to do this calmly, safely,
45:03when you can visibly see 20, 30 sharks in there.
45:07That's such a huge step in overcoming their fears.
45:11Are you good, Arianne?
45:13Yeah.
45:14Pretty wild that they're not even interested in you, isn't it?
45:17Yeah.
45:18Got their fins up, hands on the line, and doing amazing exactly how we taught them.
45:24I'm holding so tight, my head's hurt.
45:26Great work.
45:27I'm looking back to seeing sharks up close and experiencing the fact that they're not interested.
45:33They're not attacking.
45:34They're not all the things that they've learned throughout their lives growing up about sharks.
45:39You know, that breaks down a lot of misconceptions.
45:45I took a real moment to look right into their eyes and...
45:54They really are very majestic.
45:56When you're down there with them like that, you just realise that they're not interested.
46:00You know, they're swimming so close to you, and they just don't care.
46:05There's a shark behind you.
46:09Doing great.
46:10Enjoy it.
46:10You might never get this opportunity again in your life.
46:13I guarantee that.
46:16You know, they were coming very close to us.
46:18They were touching our fins, getting right underneath us.
46:21It was pretty amazing.
46:22So proud of this team right now.
46:24I'm so proud of this team.
46:26They're doing so good.
46:32We're doing something that not many people have done.
46:34And certainly all our friends at home and my family will be flabbergasted by this.
46:40Sam looks cool as a cucumber.
46:44He's so relaxed.
46:46Looks like he belongs.
46:47Did not expect to feel this calm at all.
46:50Very chill, very zen.
46:52Like, that was something, I don't know, really calming about that.
46:56Just to get face down in the water and just to see how effortlessly these Caribbean reef sharks' crews on
47:02past.
47:03Yeah, that was pretty cool.
47:04Really, really cool experience.
47:05Look at that wall.
47:06Look at this.
47:07This is amazing.
47:09In the water with sharks.
47:10It doesn't get much better than that.
47:14Not many people get to face their fears, literally.
47:17But I saw that they don't care that we're there in the sense that they don't want to bite us.
47:22But also, there was definitely snippets of, wow, this is really cool.
47:29Hey, guys, if you want to come in, we'll just bring you one by one then.
47:32Matty, you want to make your way to the boat?
47:36Once I got in the water, I just felt very safe.
47:39I didn't feel in danger that they were going to come and bite me.
47:42I don't know what that was from or why, but it was a very unexpected experience, yeah.
47:47It was beautiful, yeah.
47:50What the hell?
47:51Oh, my God, they came so close then.
47:53That was the hardest part, wasn't it?
47:55Going across, they're everywhere.
47:58Oh, my God.
47:59Good girl.
47:59You all right?
48:00Yeah.
48:01Me, a few days ago, there is no way in hell I was getting in the water with these sharks
48:06to, you know,
48:07but here I am, so, um, yeah, I'm really proud of today.
48:11Oh, thank you.
48:15That was incredible.
48:16That was really, really cool to just be, like, so close with them.
48:21And they're just, like, chilling, cruising by, like, right next to you.
48:26Oh.
48:27Oh.
48:28Where'd you go?
48:29I was pretty good in there.
48:31Yeah.
48:31You were very good.
48:32Just left me out there.
48:34Yeah, yeah.
48:35Bait on the end of the line.
48:37There was a lot around here.
48:38Yeah, definitely faced a few fears today.
48:41The old saying, face your fears and they'll disappear.
48:44And they're still there.
48:45But, you know, maybe those fears of sharks are subsiding a little bit.
48:50For people that are scared of sharks or worried about sharks, this is a huge step.
48:53People won't even sit on that back deck.
48:56They wouldn't dip their toes in that water.
48:58You literally just got in surrounded by sharks while we were throwing bait close to you.
49:02Yeah, I was, like, that bait's a bit close.
49:05It's very impressive.
49:07You know, I have to be able to do challenges like this, so it's more of a confidence booster for
49:12myself, knowing I can do it.
49:14You guys are incredible.
49:15How was it?
49:16Yeah, it was great.
49:17Yeah, it was great.
49:18Like, it was still very confronting.
49:20Like, it is cool to be so close to a shark, but it's also like, what the hell, I'm so
49:25close to a shark.
49:26They're just really not that interested in you, are they?
49:29Three came in at one point all at the same time, straight at you guys and didn't attack.
49:33I mean, I was just keeping really calm in there, like you guys say.
49:37I realised that they don't really care about us.
49:39I think they know that we're not food.
49:41They know what their food is.
49:43At this point, I'm really proud of all of the celebrities with the way that they're progressing.
49:48Well done, team.
49:49Very happy with you all.
49:52Moving on to bigger, scarier, more dangerous stuff next.
49:56I was in the water with them.
50:00Nuts.
50:01They can't do it.
50:08Shark.
50:09Brought to you by drive.com.au.
50:12Helping you find and buy the right car right now.
50:29It's been a tough few days for everyone.
50:32What happened to Lynn was really scary, but she's back better than ever, as funny as ever.
50:36Yeah, have the rocket fuel.
50:38I think it's a martini.
50:40I think it's got olives in it.
50:41That's awful.
50:43It was nice to somewhat relax a tiny bit.
50:47I like to sleep naked.
50:49Do you?
50:49Me too.
50:50Nudy rooty.
50:51I'm not very...
50:52No, I need a T-shirt.
50:53It's a hangover from being a bronchial kid.
50:57And my mum always...
50:58I was very chesty as a kid.
51:00I was very chesty.
51:01Was that pre-war or post-war?
51:06Which war?
51:07Which war, honey?
51:09I also...
51:09There's a bit too much information.
51:11Unless I'm going out, I never wear undies at home.
51:13I'm a commando.
51:14I don't wear pants, but I wear undies, not pants.
51:17We're getting too much information.
51:18I love it.
51:21Tell me what happened.
51:23What did you do?
51:24It was about a million sharks.
51:26It felt like there were so many, like, everywhere.
51:29So you...
51:29By a million, she means 20 to 30.
51:31Oh, God.
51:32And they were just circling around us.
51:33So did you guys just go into the water and hang on to a rope?
51:37Yeah.
51:37Yeah, like fishing with humans.
51:40We were the...
51:41We were the bait.
51:43We were the lewers.
51:43Yeah.
51:43Sometimes when they'd go under, that was so close,
51:45their dorsal thing would scrape on my bum.
51:48No.
51:48Yeah.
51:49Like, really close.
51:50It's called a shark g-string, they call it.
51:52Even though I couldn't participate today,
51:55I really feel like I'm watching people grow,
51:58particularly Ari.
51:59To have gone into the water today
52:01with all those reef sharks swimming around,
52:03it's really lovely to see this growth.
52:07Oh, look who it is.
52:08Oh.
52:08Hi, guys.
52:10How are you doing?
52:10How are you doing?
52:11Hey, guys.
52:12Well, celebrities, congratulations.
52:14You've made it to the halfway mark.
52:16Yay.
52:17Come on.
52:19Today, you all completed the line of terror.
52:22How'd you feel about it?
52:23Pretty good.
52:24Yeah.
52:25It was wonderful.
52:25Wow.
52:26Great.
52:26In unison.
52:27I know.
52:27I was pleasantly surprised.
52:29I think we all surprised ourselves, actually.
52:31Yes, I agree.
52:32We all love sharks now.
52:34Being around these sharks up close
52:36and learning all of what we're learning,
52:38it's incredible,
52:40and it's really changing everyone's perception on sharks.
52:44It was a beautiful experience and totally unexpected.
52:46They were right next to me.
52:47I didn't feel one bit of fear.
52:50Seeing them there in their habitat,
52:52yeah, I was in awe a little bit.
52:53I think they've been so demonised.
52:56They're seen as this monster,
52:58and I didn't see that at all.
53:00Scott, is it relatable, what Matt's saying?
53:02Is that how you felt?
53:02I really, really surprised myself that I was actually enjoying it.
53:09Honestly, it surprises us, too.
53:10Yeah, it's crazy.
53:11Yeah.
53:12I can't, like Matt, I can't explain it.
53:14There is no way that I could have done this as the first challenge.
53:19Exposure therapy is a real thing,
53:21and actually observing the sharks and seeing how they behave
53:25is also a confidence thing, too,
53:27because it was just reinforcing into me
53:30that they aren't interested in having a little nibble.
53:33That's not why they're in the ocean.
53:36They're in the ocean to live and play a role in the ecosystem.
53:39I definitely feel a lot less apprehension already.
53:42Knowledge dispels fear.
53:44Yeah.
53:44The more you learn, the more you understand,
53:46the more you realise that the things that we've been taught
53:48as human beings are not always correct.
53:51And so I'm so glad that you're all getting it.
53:54My fear still remains as crabs.
53:58Still there.
54:00Don't even joke about it, Sam.
54:03I'm actually starting to enjoy the journey.
54:06Before today, it was pure fear,
54:08but to actually appreciate what I was seeing
54:12and somewhat relax a tiny bit
54:14was actually really nice to experience.
54:16Yeah!
54:19Woo!
54:20Oh!
54:21Surprise!
54:22Surprise!
54:26Celebration of the halfway point!
54:28Yeah!
54:33I love a live band.
54:36I feel like that was the perfect end to the day.
54:41I'm really excited that I got through that challenge,
54:44and so now it's onward and upward for me.
54:47I don't know what tomorrow will bring,
54:48because we don't know,
54:49but I'm sure tomorrow will be a closer encounter than today.
54:57I'm sure I'm going to go.
54:57Next time on Shark,
54:59we are definitely stepping it up.
55:00It's going to be your first scuba dive with sharks.
55:03I had a guy here.
55:04This shark came from behind him
55:06and bit him with his arm.
55:08Don't act like food,
55:09and they won't treat you like food.
55:10Here we go.
55:11Here we go.
55:12Those large sharks.
55:15They're big sharks.
55:16Things do escalate.
55:18The last thing I want
55:19is them shooting to the surface.
55:21Oh, my God.
55:21Oh, my God.
55:22Oh, my God.
55:25Oh, my God.
55:26Oh, my God.
55:29Oh, my God.
55:30Oh, my God.
55:31Oh, my God.
55:33I'm so scared of my life.
55:36Oh, my God.
55:38Oh, my God.
