00:02My name is Shuhei Yoshida and now I work with Endreams to promote this exciting new game Reach.
00:11Thank you. So I've just played this game Reach. I'm not really a VR veteran. I don't play VR that
00:19much.
00:20And I really enjoyed it because it felt very easy to play but was still challenging in the right ways.
00:27Do you think VR games can be too difficult?
00:34Well, any game can be too difficult and as one of the game developers for a long time,
00:41making games difficult is very easy to do and making games easy for people to play is very difficult to
00:48do.
00:49And especially in VR, because there are many different levels of understanding or experience of people playing VR games,
00:57you know, it's a huge challenge for developers to come up with the game mechanic and design
01:03that caters to both experienced VR gamers and also people who are new to VR.
01:11So with VR, going back years ago, when we first were seeing VR coming into gaming, it felt like that
01:19was the future.
01:21It's been sort of 10 years since then. Does it still feel like the future or does VR feel like
01:27the present now?
01:28VR is both present and future. You know, VR has made lots of progress from both technical standpoints.
01:36You know, hardware is better, you know, more powerful PC and console.
01:41And, you know, graphics are better, higher resolution, higher frame rate and better tracking.
01:47Everything makes, you know, playing VR games more comfortable and more beautiful, seeing that you are inside the VR.
01:56So it's helping really, you know, game developers to create a better experience and more challenging, ambitious game experience like
02:06Reach.
02:07And, of course, the developers are making game, many VR games like Endreams has been making VR games over 10
02:14years.
02:15And they have accumulated experiences and knowledge of how to make, you know, VR experiences, you know, feeling great, you
02:23know, for people.
02:25Well, you've previously spoken about Endreams and how much you enjoy Synapse.
02:30Synapse is one of my, you know, best VR games ever. And as a part of, you know, PSVR 2
02:39hardware team myself, I was so happy that they used the eye tracking technology of PSVR 2.
02:47So that you can just look at the enemy and grab the enemy and throw it and shoot or, you
02:53know, grab the, you know, object and throw that to the enemy.
02:57It's amazing experience that the device using the eye tracking technology of PSVR 2.
03:05So the Synapse has all, you know, my favorite game on PSVR 2 and one of my best, you know,
03:12VR game ever.
03:14And Reach is doing something even newer in terms of, you know, navigation and traversal in the large 3D space.
03:22How you can do all the kinds of things, you know, action, fast moving action, you know, 3D adventure games
03:29that people wanted to play inside of VR.
03:33But still, you know, feel comfortable doing it. So I think Endreams is really pushing the medium forward.
03:41And what is it about the medium of VR, you think, that makes it so exciting from a console gamer
03:49perspective?
03:49Because we know PC games, you know, there's a lot of great VR, but the console is a bit rarer.
03:55So what do you think about console VR? What's so exciting about that?
03:58Well, console is very powerful and easy to use for everyone.
04:02And VR is additional, you know, experience that, you know, very easy to set up and, you know, play amazing
04:09games on console.
04:11So it's really adding, you know, more experiences that you can never experience other than, you know, in VR.
04:19And with it having been 10 years now, like you say, at Endreams, what's your goal for VR and Endreams
04:2710 years from today?
04:28Well, I do not belong to Endreams. You know, I just help Endreams.
04:33So my hope is, as they have always been doing, you know, they are always pushing something forward for all
04:41the VR industry.
04:42So every time they release new games, they are doing something that has never been done before in VR.
04:48So I hope that they will keep pushing, you know, their next game, you know, I hope will be the
04:53best Endreams, you know, game ever.
04:57Like they have been doing, you know, so many times in the past.
05:01And with Reach, if you had to tell someone who's never played a VR game, why they should play Reach,
05:09what would you tell them?
05:10Yeah. So, you know, playing Reach is like you become an action movie hero yourself.
05:17Yeah.
05:17And you can never explain this anywhere else.
05:20I really liked at the end of the demo, after doing all the running, all the fighting, to then see
05:26that not only was it VR, but it was a simulation inside of a simulation.
05:33It feels like VR can do lots of really clever surprises like that. Are there others that we can expect
05:40from Reach besides that one?
05:42Oh, yeah. So Reach, you felt like, oh, okay. So I was a stuntman, but it's just the start of
05:48the game.
05:49And when you get further into the game, you know, all the strange things, you know, start to happen. And
05:57you should look forward to experiencing that.
05:59So at one point in the game as well, I had to drag myself into a gap in a wall.
06:05And the nice chap who was showing me the game said, it was like I had become the loading screen.
06:14Was that always the ambition of Reach?
06:17I guess so.
06:20And lastly, the bow and arrow feature was really cool. What is it about VR weapons, you think, that are
06:29so fun and so satisfying?
06:31Yeah. Well, bow and arrow has always been tried in VR, from the VR games, from the very beginning of
06:37consumer VR games.
06:39But this, the way they implemented in bow and arrow feels so natural, so easy to use. And when, in
06:47the middle of the action, you're able to choose, you know, from different types of arrows and shoot.
06:53And it's really feeling great. And it makes the combat strategic as well as, you know, fast action at the
07:01same time.
