00:00Oh God, this is a good one. Such a good line, too.
00:04Wow!
00:05I think I just blanked that movie out of my brain.
00:08Am I going to get any of these right?
00:09Because I have this whole window of time where I just cut everything.
00:16This is either madness or brilliance.
00:19Oh man.
00:21It's from Pirates of the Caribbean.
00:23That was the first movie.
00:26Search for the Black Pearl?
00:28No, I'm only joking.
00:29Curse of the Black Pearl.
00:31This is either madness or brilliance.
00:34Johnny was just in his flow, you know.
00:37He was very much enjoying every moment of chewing that scenery.
00:41He built out a character that I think he really enjoyed playing.
00:46It's fun to see actors really love what they're doing and sort of laughing at themselves a little.
00:51He was kind of chuckling the whole time at these moments that he was creating for the character.
00:57Do you love me, brother?
00:59Will you protect me from any enemy?
01:02Oof.
01:02Is this from Kingdom of Heaven?
01:06Oh, maybe it's Lord of the Rings.
01:09Kingdom of Heaven.
01:11Oh my God, Troy.
01:22I think I just blanked that movie out of my brain, by the way.
01:25So many people love that movie, but for me, playing that character was just like, am I allowed to say
01:32all these things?
01:32I didn't want to do the movie.
01:33I didn't want to play this character.
01:34The movie was great.
01:35It was Brad, and it was Eric, and it was Peter O'Toole.
01:38I'm like, how am I going to play this character?
01:39It was completely against everything I felt in my being.
01:42At one point, it says Paris crawls along the floor, having been beaten by somebody, and just holds his brother's
01:49leg.
01:49And I was like, I'm not going to be able to do this.
01:52And one of my agents at the time said, but that's the moment that'll make it.
01:56And I completely fell for that line of an agent.
02:00I think that's why I blanked that line from my mind.
02:05I've got a very special ring for fingers here, made from pure frozen jelly.
02:10Oh, Peppa Pig.
02:13Oh, Peppa Pig.
02:15I've got a very special ring for fingers here, made from pure frozen jelly.
02:21Peppa Pig has been in my life since I can remember, well, at least 13 years.
02:25And I've always loved Peppa Pig.
02:27There's just something so innocent, pure, and joyful about the whole world that's created this family of pigs.
02:34So when I got a call to do a voice for Peppa Pig, it was the easiest thing,
02:38especially since my daughter is now enjoying Peppa Pig at three and a half, so it's kind of cool.
02:45One small bite is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man.
02:48I'm talking about Lembersbred in The Lord of the Rings, in The Fellowship of the Rings.
02:57One small bite is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man.
03:00The Hobbits are complaining about not having, you know, 50 meals a day or something.
03:07And I'm like, well, Lembersbred.
03:10Legolas was this remarkable character to play.
03:13Obviously, I'd felt huge pressure because the character I knew was very beloved within the books,
03:18one of my favorite characters in the books when I read it.
03:20So I had this sense of, like, you know, wanting a deep desire to land the character correctly,
03:26at least for the fans of the books.
03:27I had auditioned to play Faramir.
03:29I think they were probably just sifting through London, all the cities around the world,
03:33to try and find these characters.
03:35And I guess I probably fit the, you know, the blurb of Faramir at the time.
03:40And then I got a callback to put myself on tape initially for Legolas.
03:44And then I got another callback to meet Peter and Fran, who had come to London.
03:48And then I waited, and I was at drama school, and yeah, the rest is history.
03:54How can you be in hell when you're in my heart?
03:57This is a good one. Such a good line, too.
04:00Oh, when you're in my heart.
04:01Is that Kingdom of Heaven?
04:04Yes.
04:07How can you be in hell when you're in my heart?
04:10Ridley, I always feel, like, uses the cameras like giant paintbrushes,
04:14and he's looking at this canvas that's in front of him.
04:17And he inspires people to kind of move a whole set,
04:20just as the sun's going down in 15 minutes.
04:23I never saw a crew move so fast, like 150 people or so,
04:27to catch, like, a sunset shot over the desert.
04:30I just remember feeling very inspired to be, like, the number one on his call sheet
04:34and work with him and see him just inspiring people around him as he was doing.
04:39And there wasn't a single shot that didn't feel like a massive moment.
04:44I mean, that was, I was probably 27.
04:46It was, like, my first kind of lead in a movie, which is insane,
04:50because it was a giant Ridley Scott project.
04:52That was a remarkable time.
04:54They run as if the very whips of their masters were behind them.
04:57That's the Legolas line again.
04:59Must be the Two Towers, because we were,
05:02spent a lot of the time in Two Towers running.
05:04They run as if the very whips of their masters were behind them.
05:07I mean, I literally did all of the running.
05:09I think Viggo and I, as much as possible, insisted on doing all of our running,
05:13and I really took my cues from him, although I would have wanted to do all of it anyway,
05:17because there was such a specific physicality to the elves,
05:20and specifically to Legolas's movement.
05:22It was really important to me that I didn't, that I got that right.
05:25In the second movie, there's a sequence where I throw down a shield,
05:28and I slide down it like it's a surfboard of some sort.
05:33I did as much of that stuff as I possibly could, actually.
05:35There were a few moments that were computer generated.
05:38Good effort, son. Here's a cap and a shirt for you.
05:41That's Gran Turismo.
05:43Good effort, son. Here's a cap and a shirt for you.
05:46I had a great time on that movie.
05:47We slightly got let down by the, well, we were unable to do as much publicity as I think we'd
05:53all hoped.
05:53But I really thought, you know, Neil did an amazing job directing the movie, and Archie was fantastic,
05:58and there was a whole bunch of great young talent in there, and it was a really cool experience, actually.
06:04I'm not really a video game kind of a guy. I never really have been.
06:07I maybe played Tetris years ago when I was a kid, had a Game Boy.
06:11Oh, there was years and years ago in England.
06:15There was, this is really aging me, but I kind of like that at this time of my life.
06:18Um, Renegade was like a little fighting game on a Sega console.
06:23That's old.
06:24People are going to be like, wait, what?
06:27What about side by side with a friend?
06:29Oh, is it Return of the King? Yes, Return of the King.
06:32I thought I'd die fighting side by side with an elf.
06:35What about side by side with a friend?
06:38I've actually seen that line tattooed countless times on fans around the world and gone, wow.
06:44And in fact, I think I even signed something, because I saw the tattoo, and it was Legolas and Gimli.
06:51And that line, what about side by side with a friend?
06:53And then he said, could you just send me your signature so I can tattoo it underneath?
06:57Because he had Gimli's.
06:57He had John Rhys-Davis on one side and me on the other.
07:01So any crew member can be challenged is from Pirates of the Caribbean.
07:05I just don't know which movie, though.
07:07I think it's so any crew member can be challenged at World's End.
07:14No. Dead man's chest.
07:16Okay, there you go. Well, again, another trilogy of movies.
07:20Shot not exactly in sequence or order, so forgive me.
07:25So any crew member can be challenged by anyone.
07:29I mean, Pirates wasn't supposed to be another two.
07:31Obviously, it went on to be the huge success that it was.
07:33You know, it's a funny thing to be a part of a couple of trilogies that have had such a
07:37huge impact on,
07:40you know, fans around the world.
07:41It's obviously a massive blessing.
07:43And it's also, like, overshadowed anything and everything else I've ever tried to do.
07:49Which I'm also good with.
07:51At the same time, I'm like, you know, as I build out other characters for me to kind of
07:58flex or stretch you in and grow through.
08:02You know, my kids and my kids' kids, it feels like you're a part of.
08:06And I saw The Lord of the Rings recently, or when I say recently, probably a couple of years ago.
08:11It held up well.
08:12I was like, you know, they really put a lot into that.
08:14And I think that's true of Pirates, too, you know.
08:16And that was, you know, in itself a gift, so.
08:20Looking for someone?
08:21Oh, my God.
08:22Is that from, is that my first ever appearance?
08:25That's wild.
08:27Wild.
08:28It's from Wild.
08:30About Oscar Wilde with Stephen Fry and Jude Law.
08:35Looking for someone?
08:37I was actually, literally, I think I was 16.
08:41I'd moved to London.
08:43I had an agent who had saw me on stage at a small theatre in North London called the Tricycle
08:49Theatre,
08:50had signed me.
08:51I think as a kid, I was never more present than I was when I was on stage.
08:56And I was also never more terrified than the moment just before I went on stage.
09:01I had terrible stage fright.
09:02Which I think was the perfect combination of things or feelings to enable me to kind of
09:10hold on to and think about pushing through and growing through and evolving through whatever.
09:15I was single-minded about wanting to do that.
09:19I was always like, I'm doing this.
09:22I was so young, so full of, like, the excitement, hopes and dreams of, like,
09:30what my life could be with zero idea of what was about to happen.
09:34It's quite wild, that.
