00:00In China, Butterfly Valley has become a model of rural revitalization and environmental protection, generating economic development for local communities.
00:09Our correspondent, Bruno Falci, brings us the following report from the area.
00:14In Jinping County, Yunnan Province, in southern China, Butterfly Valley has established itself as a model of rural revitalization,
00:24where biodiversity protection and ecotourism go hand in hand.
00:28Every year, this ecosystem experiences the natural phenomenon of the butterfly explosion, considered one of the country's greatest natural spectacles.
00:43Today, many villagers understand that this place is not only beautiful, but has also brought great benefits to the local
00:50population.
00:50With the increase in tourism, economic development has been boosted in areas such as food, accommodation and transportation.
00:58Currently, both villagers and local authorities have a strong awareness of the need to protect this area.
01:05In November 2012, the county government enacted the world's first local legislation for the protection of this territory.
01:12Butterfly Valley has become an engine of development for local communities.
01:17For example, in the village of Biao Xiuyan, inhabited by the Hani ethnic group, and around Landeng waterfall,
01:26initiatives combining environment, conservation, ecotourism and cultural preservation have generated new opportunities for the population,
01:36boosting the development of cultural and artisanal products linked to the local traditions.
01:45In Mangdong, we have designated approximately 55 mu, approximately 1,000 acres of pilot land,
01:52where we plant host species in nectar-producing plants for butterflies, combining them appropriately to restore their habitat.
02:01This is part of our ecological restoration work. Regarding community work, we develop cultural and creative products,
02:10as well as educational activities based on butterfly ecology and environmental restoration.
02:16Through these initiatives, we seek to strengthen the capacity of the local population to participate and manage and generate income
02:25from these projects.
02:27The Red Node Digital Platform, in coordination with the local government,
02:32has supported projects with artisans in the region to develop handmade products and access new markets,
02:40contributing to increased income for the communities.
02:46Since Red Node began working in Yunnan, we have developed projects with local artisans in handmade products.
02:52Through our design capabilities, we have helped local artisans develop new products and reach new markets.
02:59After two years of work, we have helped artisans in the region increase their income.
03:04In some cases, this increase has reached approximately 30 percent.
03:09Biodiversity, conservation, ecotourism and community initiatives are all integrated within the framework of rural revitalization policies,
03:19and the model of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
03:24Under the leadership of the Communist Party, which combines economic development,
03:30environmental protection and social welfare.
