00:00Great job on this Craig Breslow situation, and you make a lot of interesting points beyond the fact that, you
00:08know, you obviously don't believe that he's going to be in this position next year, but let's talk a little
00:15bit about, the thing I thought was the most interesting is, you know, you would think that Craig Breslow, if
00:21they're going to get rid of him, they would want to do it before the deadline, but that doesn't necessarily
00:26need to happen, and can you kind of explain the machinations of that?
00:30Yeah, I mean, the Red Sox M.O. here, if you will, over the last, you know, 10 years, is
00:39when they move on from a lead baseball executive, they often do it in mid-September. That happened with Dave
00:46Dombrowski in 2019, and it happened with Hein Blum in 2023.
00:51So both those guys ran the show at the draft and at the trade deadline and were out the door
01:01about six weeks later, less than two months later.
01:04So for people saying, well, why would you keep the guy that you're probably going to move on from and
01:11allow him to navigate the deadline?
01:15My answer is a good question, but they've done it twice before since 2019, so there is some precedent for
01:23it.
01:25I also think there's a limit to what you're going to affect in terms of change if you fire the
01:32general manager or, in this case, the chief baseball officer in the middle of the season.
01:36The product doesn't change, right?
01:38You change managers as they did at the end of April, getting rid of Alex Kor and six coaches.
01:43Well, now you have a new voice in the dugout, you have somebody new making out the lineup card, you
01:48have somebody making in-game decisions.
01:50There's more of an impact that a manager is going to have day-to-day.
01:54Right now, the roster is the roster, as Alex Kor was known to say on occasion, and the players are
02:01who they are.
02:02If Craig Breslow is replaced tomorrow, next week, next month, it's not like there's going to be some wholesale changes
02:10in the roster right away.
02:11And in all likelihood, because of the timing, you're going to have to have somebody interim and promote somebody from
02:17within to do that job.
02:19So for people screaming that it doesn't make sense, we can argue that all day.
02:24But the fact is that there's recent precedent to do it that way.
