Thousands protest G7 in Geneva as Trump, other leaders ready for summit in France

According to figures from Geneva police, an estimated 20,000 people, including some 600 so-called “Black Bloc” militants, took part in the demonstration.

00:00Thousands of demonstrators have converged in Geneva, Switzerland to protest against
00:05leaders of the G7 group of rich countries ahead of the summit's opening in France.
00:10The three-day summit, starting this Monday in the resort town of Évien-les-Bains, France,
00:16will see leaders discuss issues including the Middle East, Ukraine and global economic
00:21imbalances.
00:23Clashes broke out between protesters and police near the United Nations headquarters
00:27in Geneva on Sunday as protesters threw bottles, stones, pieces of cement and firecrackers
00:34at the police who responded with tear gas and water cannons.
00:40Environmentalists and feminists were amongst the protesters who joined critics of imperialism,
00:45defenders of independent media, supporters of Palestinian rights and others in a lakeside
00:51park in Geneva for a march across town.
00:53Swiss and French authorities say they have deployed thousands of police to provide security
00:59for the three-day summit.
