00:00Welcome to the deep wilderness of the Northwoods. For the next three days I'm
00:04alone and stranded in the forest with no food, no water, and no tent. I'll have to
00:08build a bushcraft shelter to sleep in overnight, catch fish, and forage plants
00:13and mushrooms for my food. I'll have no choice but to use my nearby resources to
00:17my advantage and I'm doing all of this with zero experience. So let's see if I
00:21have what it takes to survive alone in the wilderness. Well I've just been
00:25dropped off deep in the wilderness so officially for the next three days I'm
00:28stranded and alone out here. I've got no food, no water, and no shelter so it's
00:32completely up to me to survive. But the twist is I've never done anything like
00:35this before. This is the lake that I'll be camping nearby. There's a bunch of lakes
00:39and swamps in this area so there's a lot of potential for eating fish for food,
00:42harvesting cattails, and there's a bunch of different plants you can eat. And the
00:45fish that live in here are pretty tasty too. But there's a little bit of a
00:48problem. I'm not the only predator animal that's living out here. This right here is
00:53gray wolf poop. The wolves are native to this area. There's also black bears out
00:57here and possibly coyote so I gotta stay on the lookout. But I'm gonna get moving
01:01through the forest and see if I can find a spot that I can set up a shelter for
01:04tonight. Well one type of food out here is a plant that many of you recognize
01:11from your yards. A little dandelion. Dandelion plants are completely edible. The
01:15flower, the stem, and the roots. And the leaves of course but they're a little bit
01:18bitter so this flower is gonna be a little snack as I get moving through the
01:24trail. And right here next to it is a fern. However, to eat ferns you need them to be
01:28very small just at their very young stage. These ones are a little bit too big.
01:35A little bumblebee.
01:42Dandelion flowers don't really have a taste. It kind of just tastes like eating a
01:44bland piece of paper. But boy it's hot out here. It is 85 degrees right now. Over the
01:49next three days it's gonna be 85, 85, and 90. Since it's still spring up here in the
01:54Northwoods all the plants are still growing up. Just a couple weeks ago these would
01:58have all been edible. Just a little bit too late for those unfortunately. Well I'm
02:04looking for a spot to break off this trail and everywhere where there's not a
02:07lot of big trees the forest floor is super dense because all the sunlight gets in
02:10there. And anywhere where there's a lot of big trees up top there's not a lot of
02:13sunlight getting through and the forest floor is much more navigatable. I'm just
02:19not the only one using this trail either. If you look here it's a big animal. I don't
02:24know what kind of animal that is. Right here there's a deer print. There's a lot of
02:27different species in these woods. As I'm walking I keep walking through spiderwebs
02:35and look at that one down there. I really hope that no spiders crawl into my
02:39sleeping bag tonight. Yes well I'm far off trail now and I finally found a really
02:51good food source. This is a morel mushroom. A black morel mushroom and they are
02:56edible and tasty. I see another one over there too. Oh my gosh and there's one
03:00right here. Oh my gosh they're all over the place. Oh my gosh let's go. This is gonna be a
03:07solid food source for me over the next three days. Wow. Wow they smell just like
03:12regular mushrooms too. Don't pick any mushrooms and eat them unless you have
03:16100% certainty that they are the species that you're looking for. These have false
03:20morels out there that are highly toxic if you eat them so you really want to make
03:23sure that you know what you're doing. Real morels have completely hollow insides
03:27and go up to a point without going wider. But I'm gonna put these in my bag and
03:30start building my shelter before the sun goes down. Got my North Drift sweatshirt a
03:35little bit sweaty. If you guys do want to support the channel check out
03:39northdriftco.com or else click the link down in the description below. But the
03:43North Drift clothing is my clothing brand to go with North Star Fishing so I'll
03:47leave that link below if you guys want to check that out. But I'm thinking right
03:49here is where I'm gonna build my shelter. But first let me show you guys the gear I
03:52brought this trip. We've got an axe that turns into a saw to cut some wood,
03:58waterproof matches, pot to cook things in. We have a snorkel mask in case I want to go
04:03swimming in the lakes and see what's beneath the surface. Some pliers for
04:05fishing as well as all of my tackle. My camera gear, an emergency medical kit,
04:10flashlight, Old Spice deodorant of course, a portable charger, a life straw so I don't
04:15have to boil all my water, a pocket knife, and some socks. And that is
04:19everything I have to survive the next three days out alone in the middle of the
04:22wilderness. But now let's get started on the shelter. Step one clear off the forest
04:38floor complete. Hopefully now I shouldn't have to do with as many bugs crawling
04:41around down there while I'm sleeping now.
04:48Oh, look at this. That's a little earthworm right there. If I didn't have any bait with
04:53me this would be a perfect survival fishing bait. But I do have bait with me
04:56so we're just going to take the moss.
05:23coming along quite nicely.
05:33Okay, well we're getting there. As you can see I've got my main foundation of this one,
05:37this one, and then the long one going across. We balance all the other ones across the sides
05:42and eventually this is going to get thick enough where I can pile a bunch of thinner
05:44twigs on the side going sideways and then I'll pile a bunch of leaves on top and it'll insulate
05:49the whole thing and I can sleep right down here. We have a visitor. That is a June bug.
05:54Big beetle but harmless. We just don't want him inside of my shelter.
06:01Well, we just hit a major setback. The middle branch was weak and broke the entire shelter.
06:05It all has fallen but it's too heavy to lift back up and I also still don't have dinner.
06:08I got to fix this ASAP and get down there to catch me some food before the sun goes down.
06:18Okay, well that took a lot more of my time but I was able to repair the shelter. I had
06:22to put new
06:22sticks and new support so hopefully this weight can or hopefully this these sticks here can take
06:26the weight because that last one couldn't but I've been able to repair it. I am absolutely starving and
06:32I'm out of calories so I got to finish up the shelter and head down to the lake to hopefully
06:35catch some fish for dinner. Luckily there's no shortage of leaves because of the fall.
06:45Well, it's not crazy impressive and it's not fully complete but that will do it for now. I am super
06:51hungry and we are all finished with this but I'm gonna continue adding some touch-ups to this guy
06:55after I get back from dinner. Right now we gotta go fishing. Well, we have some more mushrooms here.
07:04I don't know what kind of these are and I'm not gonna risk eating them. Wow, they are super hard.
07:09Those mushrooms must be old. It'll probably taste like chewing on chalk. Oh, take a look at that.
07:15Got folded, bro. I see the lake. Bill Gates got a chill, bro. Tick. Another one. I've had like
07:25four or five on me but I do got good news. We have made it to the lake. I brought
07:31both my baitcaster
07:31and my spinning rod with on this trip. I believe in this lake there are largemouth bass, northern pike,
07:36crappie, bluegill, and perch, all which are edible. So I'm gonna rig up and see what I can catch.
07:41The sun is not giving me too much time left. First of all though, I need some water.
07:48Well, this water feels amazing. I'm for sure going for a swim tomorrow.
07:54Oh, that's good. Oh my gosh, there's a bunch of bluegill right here. There's a bunch of bluegill
07:57sitting right out here but a bluegill is not gonna fill me up for dinner. I need to catch something
08:01bigger. I'm gonna start off throwing a little jackhammer chatterbait, see if I can't catch a bass or pike.
08:16Oh my gosh, what is that? That thing just hammered it, dude. Okay, it's a nice bass. Oh,
08:23that was crazy. He didn't fight at all though. Oh my gosh, that was crazy. Well,
08:28I'm thinking this is like a fat two and a half pounder. He's pushing three but this is a little
08:31bit too big for what I want to eat tonight. I don't really want to take any fish out of
08:34the lake that are
08:35this size and anything bigger than this too. So hopefully we can catch a smaller one before
08:39the sun goes down. There you go. That's a nice fish though. He's gonna come up and jump. Watch this.
08:47Bang. And I was just thinking the chatterbait wasn't gonna get a bit but there it is. So I'm
08:51gonna switch to something smaller and hopefully get like a one pounder, one and a half pounder.
08:54And I've also been seeing some frogs along the lake. So if I do get really hungry tomorrow,
08:58we might be doing a frog catch and cook.
09:00It's almost sunset. So we're gonna throw the Whopper Plopper. This is actually the Screamin'
09:05Chapo 95 by Berkeley. But if one hits this, it's gonna be an awesome blow up.
09:18Oh my gosh, what the heck was that? That was insane. I knew it was gonna happen. Way up shallow.
09:26That was either a nice bass or a nice pike. See if we'll come back for it.
09:32He came back for it. I got him. Yes. There we go. What is that? Oh, it's a nice bass.
09:43There we go. That is what I'm talking about. Double blow up on the Whopper Plopper.
09:47Got him right in the lips. Well, that is another nice bass, but a little bit too big for what
09:51I'm
09:51looking for to eat. And it seems like they're feeding pretty well. So we're gonna toss that guy back,
09:55let him go. That blow up was sick.
10:06There he is. I wasn't even paying attention. Stopped it for a second. It took the time to strike. I
10:11think
10:11it's another bass. Got him. Well, there we go. That's another nice one, dude. I'm trying to find
10:17a smaller fish, but I guess all the fish in here are nice size. But there we go. Another sweet
10:22blow
10:22up on the plopper. That is a beautiful fish right there. Another nice two and a half pounder or
10:26something. We'll let him go.
10:35Dude, I have had more ticks on me in the last three hours than I've had the entire rest of
10:40my life.
10:40And ticks up here carry Lyme's disease. So if I get bit by one, that will not be good.
10:48Oh my gosh, dude. I wasn't recording. A giant bass just blooped on the whopper plopper and the sun is
10:53like going down right now. Oh, stay down. Stay down. Holy cow. It was just right at shore and he
10:58just
10:58thumped it so hard. Oh, yes. Oh my gosh. Look at that fish. That's probably the best one yet. That's
11:09a nice,
11:09another nice one, but I still don't have food and I don't want to eat a fish that big. So
11:13we're gonna
11:14let him go and see if I can get lucky with another one. I got like five, 10 minutes left.
11:17Every single
11:17fish I've caught has been super shallow, literally casting like no more than 25 feet from the bank.
11:22Just reeling it parallel and they smash it. I should be recording right now. That bass just went full
11:27blown out of the air like a dolphin to eat this thing. Holy cow. Okay, there we go. There is
11:35so many
11:36fish in here this size. There's like tons and tons of largemouth. I didn't even get them all on video.
11:39I wasn't recording this whole time, but I'm gonna eat this guy for dinner tonight. I've eaten zero
11:42calories so far today and it's now probably 8 30 p.m. I'm gonna knock this guy out and bring
11:47it back
11:47to camp. Well, I made it back to my stuff just in the nick of time. The sun is down
11:54and the moon is
11:55up and there's multiple beavers who do not want me on their lake. They think it's their territory
11:58right here, but I gotta grab my stuff and get out of here. The mosquitoes are chowing me up. I
12:02want to take
12:03my morel mushrooms and wash them off in the lake water just in case there's anything that's on them
12:08right now. Boy, am I sweaty and tired. I have zero calories in me, zero energy. Tomorrow would be
12:15painful. I'm so grateful. The Lord has blessed me with this bass. I never eat bass before, but I
12:19believe they taste just like any other fish and it's gonna be a bunch of protein and calories,
12:23which I desperately need right now.
12:28You hear that? That's the beaver splashing his tail trying to get me to leave his area.
12:37There's something else in the woods over there walking around. Really hoping it's a deer because
12:41it sounds big. I'm gonna go ahead and grab some of these while I'm here. Dandelion plants are
12:46completely edible, the entire thing. So we're gonna take some of these leaves. Okay, there we go.
12:55Don't want to go in that. My shelter. Oh my goodness, is it good to see this thing.
13:01I didn't know exactly where I was, so I took multiple wrong turns and went like half a mile
13:05in the wrong direction. I had to come all the way back and it's taken me like 30 minutes to
13:08get up to
13:08the shelter, but here we are. Well, luckily it rained yesterday, so everything's wet and the fire danger
13:14is extremely low for tonight, so we're going to cook our fish and our mushrooms over the fire.
13:34And this will be a great fire starter. Tuck this stuff right down there in the bottom.
13:39Waterproof match. Go like that. Drop that right down in there. And lookie there, we are going.
13:48While we wait for this fire to die down, I'm gonna flay our fish up and make sure zero meat
13:51goes to
13:52waste. They're probably all squirrels, but there's all kinds of animals walking around. And now that
13:56it's night, the bigger animals like the wolves, the bears, they're gonna be moving around, but luckily
14:00with the fire and the smoke, it'll keep any curious animals out of the area and it's gonna keep the
14:04mosquitoes out of the area. Well, there's our big old largemouth bass fillet. However, the blood is
14:12still in there and I don't want to walk a mile all the way down back to the lake to
14:15wash it off. So
14:16hopefully that doesn't ruin the flavor too much, but we'll see. Removing a few fish will actually
14:22help the lake, but there we go. Two fillets from a largemouth bass. That'll do.
14:34Well, the fire is about ready. And I went ahead and carved two little sticks to stick into each
14:39fillet to hold it over the fire so I can get that good medium rare. If you cook it too
14:43fast,
14:43the meat will still be mushy and cold on the inside and then burnt on the outside. So don't want
14:48to do
14:48that. See how it's hollow? I'm not going to eat the stem on that one. Let's put those mushrooms in
14:59there so they can start cooking. These are cooking down here and I'm going to have these slow cook up
15:07here. Holy frick. Look at that spider. The mushrooms look just to be about cooked. Oh gosh. Those things
15:16are going to be wandering in my sleeping bag while I'm sleeping tonight. I'm going to go ahead and
15:20pull these on out of here. These are done. Oh yeah. I burnt those guys to a crisp. Well, I
15:26have
15:26personally never had morel mushrooms. I know many of you people in Minnesota have went out for them
15:31and foraged them and ate them. So it's my first time trying them. That's pretty good. I'm going to do
15:38some more of these this trip. I'm going to go ahead and throw these dandelion leaves in the pot and
15:45in
15:45the fire. I think they'll probably taste better that way. The one thing I do regret is not bringing
15:49more water. I haven't drinking anything since I started fishing and I am super dehydrated so
15:54probably going to have to grab that life straw, run back down to the lake before I go to bed
15:58and just take a bunch of big gulps. But it looks like the fish is done. I think these are
16:02done too.
16:04Yeah, those are done for sure. Let's see. Well, I cooked them too long. You're not supposed to do
16:11that, but have you ever had a kale chip before? Let's go ahead and dig into this fish.
16:19Yep. That's about how I expected it to taste. It's boneless, so that's good, but it tastes just
16:24like largemouth bass straight up out of the lake. I think that blood might have had something to do
16:28with the taste too. But it's food. Got a decent amount of calories off those and I think I'm going
16:38to get ready for bed because it is getting late. A little bit of a breeze wouldn't be bad, but
16:43I'm
16:43not going to complain. All right. Well, my shelter is a success. I am going to keep this by me
16:49all
16:49night. I'm going to let this fire die out right now and I'm going to get to bed, but I've
16:53got a
16:53feeling that I'm not going to be the only person sleeping in here tonight. All right. I'll see you
16:57guys in the morning. Well, that wasn't the worst sleep I've ever had in my life. It just wasn't
17:03super comfortable after a while on the ground. And the only part of my body that was open to the
17:07the air was my face. So I got bit by mosquitoes a bunch. I could feel them. Didn't really have
17:11to deal with anything else as far as spiders or other bugs. So not too shabby.
17:27All right. Well, I'm going to head down to the lake and forge some food for breakfast.
17:32Well, the leaves on dandelion plants are actually better if you pick them before the flower blooms.
17:37As you can see on these ones, they haven't bloomed yet. So I'm going to take the top half of
17:40all of
17:41these. Nobody really thinks of dandelions being food, but they're actually packed with vitamin A,
17:47vitamin C, vitamin K, and calcium and iron. So definitely not a food I want to be overlooking
17:52out here. And as I go along here, I'm also going to pick up some dandelion flowers. They'll help with
18:02my mosquito bites. Actually, they have natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in
18:07their flowers. So I'm going to be eating some of these guys. There's two nice ones right there.
18:17The entire trail is covered in spiderwebs. I'm walking through them left and right.
18:22The lake down there is just asking for me to swim in it.
18:29Hold on a second here. See this right here? This plant is red columbine. The flowers are
18:34completely edible and packed with vitamin C, but the rest of the stem, all the leaves and
18:38the roots are all toxic. This right here and eat this with breakfast. Here's another one right here.
18:54There's tick number 30 of the trip. A lot of people think ticks are sitting on the ground and crawl
18:59up
18:59your shoes onto your legs, but what they really do is sit on stuff like this. Oh wow, look at
19:03that bug.
19:03And they'll sit just right on the edge of it, waiting for you to walk past. And as your leg
19:07brushes it,
19:08they slide onto your leg. Always got to do my best to stay right in the middle of the trail
19:12where I'm not
19:12brushing as many plants. There's another plant over here we can harvest. So these are cattails,
19:21known as like the hot dog plant. And down here with these fresh green stalks, pull that out and see
19:30that. Go ahead and peel away all the outer layers, kind of slimy on the outside. And the very inside
19:37part
19:37is edible and it smells and tastes like cucumber. Another plant we can eat for breakfast.
19:48And there we go. The thing you do got to be careful about with cattails though, is that you
19:52have to get them from a clean water source because they're the first ones to absorb all the pollutants
19:56in the lake. But this is a pretty clean source right here. All right, well right here we've got
20:00ourselves a 100% organic breakfast salad along with some cucumber tasting cattails. All of this is
20:05completely free so I can't complain about it not being the the best tasting stuff ever. But
20:11red columbine flower. These are really good. They're sweet. These are probably my favorite.
20:17There's nectar in there. I think these are all pollinated already. The dandelion leaves.
20:24They're pretty bitter. They do taste similar to arugula but I wouldn't eat these on their own. See
20:29how on the inside of the cattail it's denser in there. That's the spot we want to get to,
20:32cut off all these outer layers. There we go. String cheese. Well, not too shabby of a breakfast.
20:41If I was going to have to be surviving out here for over a week or something, I wouldn't be
20:44able
20:44to sustain life out of that. That's just barely not enough calories. But as I was walking over
20:47here, I was seeing a ton of largemouth, big ones too, up shallow cruising back and forth. So I think
20:52we're going to have a pretty banger day of fishing. I'm going to head down to the lake.
20:57Well, since this is a survival situation, I didn't bring any polarized glasses for fishing. But luckily,
21:01the water is still so clear that you can still see the fish. There's actually like a two pound large
21:05mouth on a bed right there. And look at all these guys. That is what I'm going to have for
21:09dinner
21:09slash lunch today. Oh, another large mouth. Actually, two more large mouth right here.
21:18I'm going to start off throwing this watermelon craw. I see a bass right here.
21:25He's on it.
21:30Oh, he just ate it. That was sick, dude. Zero, zero like doubt in his mind. That is epic.
21:39Nice sight fish and largies in the spring. Look at he just, he just went over and gobbled that thing
21:44up. Here we go. That would have been a little bit better one to eat last night, but he's got
21:48a nice
21:48healthy belly on him. Let's send him back in. Oh, sorry, buddy. You get out there. And he wasn't even
21:56on a bed. That's just a great sign for this craw.
22:05Well, you can see the water is super clear, but the water level is actually down. It should be higher.
22:09So these fish should be spawning closer, but there's a lot of the beds are way out deep. So
22:13you can't really see. Luckily though, there's a bunch of shallow cruising fish that aren't on
22:17beds that you can just cast the craw in front of. And a lot of them will eat.
22:25Oh, dang it. A dink got it. Do not want him. I made that cast because there's a, there's a
22:31little
22:31bit bigger one sitting right down there. And he's on it. Oh, he ate it. Got him. Yes.
22:46He's not huge, but he's a little bit bigger than that last one. Got him. There we go. Beautiful
22:52fish. Wow. Look at the colors on that. Gorgeous. Get him back nice and quick.
23:04Well, I've been walking this bank looking for fish and it's hot out and I haven't really seen
23:08much on this side. So you can see the water gets a little bit deeper. It's a little bit
23:12of stronger drop off over here. So there's only one way that I can find out where the fish are
23:15and that's going in to find them.
23:35It was a big pass right when I jumped dead, but all the other ones I've seen a bit small.
24:00Well, I'm back where I jumped in and that bass that I spooked right when I got in that bigger
24:04one,
24:04he's sitting right down there, but he keeps chasing bluegills around. I was going to try to catch him,
24:08but I'm going to stick the GoPro in there and you guys can see this happen.
24:18Something big just waked up shallow. It must have been a bass trying to eat some bluegill.
24:22Let's cast in the craw and see. Oh my gosh. He ate it. That was sick.
24:31Oh boy. I've got you. If you look on this fish's head right here, there's a mark and I've seen
24:37it on
24:37every single fish in the lake. I've never seen that before. I don't know what it is. So if you're
24:41a
24:42biologist or biology major and you don't have any idea what that is, let me know in the comments
24:45below, but we'll put that guy back. Thank you for the fight, sir.
24:50They do that because they still think they have a hook in their mouth because they're used to
24:54fighting. So they go up and jump one last time after you release them. There's a dock out here
24:58and there's a school of bluegill sitting under the dock. And I legitimately just watched a bass
25:02try to aim, but she shot out from under the dock and chased a bluegill way off into the deep.
25:13Yes, that was sick. I could not even see the bass, but I saw that there was one out there.
25:18So
25:18I just waited for him to thump it. Oh gosh. It seems like a nice one.
25:26Oh yeah. How about that? That's more of the size we're looking for right there. That's like
25:30another two and a half pounder. There's so many fish this size in here. It's crazy. I still have not
25:34seen any giants, so we'll see if we can get one of those. Well, I've just been sitting out here
25:41enjoying the sun and the perfect weather, and I am not hungry. My body is currently in ketosis,
25:46so I'm using my own fat as energy right now. It's just eating away my fat. It's the perfect method
25:50for cutting. Little do they know somebody's going in the frying pan later. Well, let's see if we can't
25:59catch another bass or two while we make our way back. He was sitting right under this
26:04log right here. There's a bass like right there. Come on. Oh, he's coming in for it. He's coming in
26:10for it.
26:15Oh my gosh, he ate it. That was so sick, dude. Look at that. Less than a foot of water.
26:20You guys
26:20probably couldn't see it, but oh my gosh. He was coming in. You know, I was tapping it. Oh my
26:26gosh,
26:26it's a giant compared to the other ones. Yeah, let's go. That's like a three pounder. That's what I'm
26:35talking about. That was a sick eat. I don't know if you guys saw the eat on video, but
26:38that was awesome. Such a cool fish. That guy probably thought he was smart. He was sitting
26:44right here under this log, probably waiting to ambush some blue goat that were swimming past him,
26:48but I casted the crow out in front of him and he came real shallow to eat it. That was
26:52sick.
26:54I see another one out there in those lily pads.
27:00Eat it. Not nearly as big as that last one, but get up here. Who knew that crawl would work
27:06so good? Not even using like a regular jig head. This is just like a VMC that I would use
27:10for swim
27:11baits, but it's doing the job. Well, this right here is a beaver lodge and you can see all of
27:17this.
27:17He's living under and this is his entrance point right here. He just comes through the lake,
27:21swims down in and it goes up under there. There's one cruising right there.
27:31Look at all these old beds. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, but there's not a single
27:36fish on any of them. So most likely these are all from the last year and previous years when the
27:41water level was higher, they would spawn closer to shore. Look at that wild swan. Well, hunger is
27:46finally hitting me and I've seen the biggest bluegills of all back at that dock that we were fishing
27:50earlier. I'm going to make my way back there. Well, bluegills are pretty dumb. So I've just
27:55got a small hook with a piece of plastic. I just ripped it off the end of my Ned rig.
27:59This should
28:00work. There we go. Only problem is I have to weed through all the small ones to get one big
28:07one.
28:09Oh yeah, that guy will eat. Well, that's a keeper right there. Not very big, but this is bigger than
28:14the average size, believe it or not. Well, I'm going to catch two more, hopefully bigger than this one,
28:18fillet them up and bring them back to camp.
28:25Cleaning bluegill is super simple. Just stab them in the noggin just so they knock out and die
28:28instantly. It's the most humane way. And then I'll slit the gills so that blood flow will come out of
28:33the meat and it'll taste better. And then we'll just take the knife and their scales come off super
28:36easy. So you can just descale them like this and then you don't have to remove the skin.
28:42There's a little bit better one. Guess what I caught him on? A dandelion. There we go. Six
28:48little skinless or scaleless boneless fillets. I'm headed back to camp. I got to make some dinner.
29:02Get some more of these. Made it back. I think I've got mosquito bites, spider bites,
29:07and chigger bites all on my ankles.
29:22Just this small fire here and all the bugs are gone. Thank goodness. But boy, they got me on my
29:27ankles for sure. Oh, there's a tick right there. Oh, get out of here, dude. It's the ones that you
29:33can't see that you got to watch out for.
29:36These morel mushrooms are the exact same color as all the dead leaves and sticks on the forest floor,
29:41so you got to lock in to find them. Here's one right here. Boom. Number two. It's a big one.
29:50Oh my gosh, it's a giant. Holy cow. Well, that'll do. Nice handful of morels. That'll pair nicely with
29:59those bluegill. Well, it's just a bunch of hot embers now and it's perfect temp for cooking
30:02in here. We got a bunch of bluegill fillets. We'll throw those right on there right now.
30:12Take a gander in here. Oh boy, that is going to be good. Well, it has occurred to me that
30:18I have no
30:19fork, no plate, and no way to eat these really besides this knife, so we're just going to dig in.
30:25First taste of bluegill over the campfire.
30:30That is so much better than the bass. Wow. That is delicious. My goodness me. I should have kept more
30:36of them. Well, that bluegill was delicious, and I'll tell you what, I'm going to take all these
30:43morel mushrooms, chop them up, and cook them in the fatty oils of the fish.
30:52Well, the top's popping off. Oh yeah, they're done.
30:58Fried in the fatty oils.
31:01I'm curious if the head of the mushroom tastes any different than the stem. I can't really tell
31:04the difference. I'm going to toss the dandelion leaves in there just for about a minute. They
31:14have a Mongolian stir fry. Those leaves that they put in there after they cook it up with a bunch
31:18of
31:18other stuff, that's kind of what that dandelion leaves taste like. Well, I'm going to keep this
31:21fire going and just chill here for a little while. I'm going to wait for this sun to get a
31:24little bit
31:25lower in the sky before I go down to the lake, and we're going to throw the whopper plopper around,
31:28see if we can catch some more topwater bass.
31:33What kind of person would pay billions of dollars in insurance just to insure a property that's not nearly
31:38worth the amount? Interesting question. We're going to go fishing.
31:48Okay, well, we're back down at the lake. I have not fished any of this bank right here.
31:52Brand new water for the whopper plopper.
32:00Oh, that looks good.
32:03Oh my gosh, dude. What did I just say? That was sick.
32:09Oh my gosh, that seems like a pretty good one too. First cast. I'm going to water ski him.
32:16Let's go. Sun's going down right now. This is peak topwater. Not a very big one, but oh, there he
32:23goes.
32:25Someone back there.
32:28Got a leg bone of some sort. That's pretty cool.
32:32Look at this right here coming towards me. A pair of loons. I've been hearing those guys call
32:36back and forth to one another the whole trip, but I'm going to head back to camp. It's getting dark.
32:41Hopefully I don't run into whatever big animal was walking around up here.
32:48All right, well, I'm back at camp and the sun has now gone down. It's dark out here.
32:52I don't think we're going to be using the fire pit again.
32:54But it's amazing. The sun starts going down and the whole forest comes alive. You can hear everything
32:58because of all the dead leaves and just all of a sudden there's just tatters and little animals and
33:03all kinds of stuff just running around. And since it's the middle of the wilderness,
33:06you can hear everything. It's completely silent.
33:10Like right there. I don't know what it is. There's got to be like a little mouse or something down
33:13there in the leaves. I think I'm going to take refuge in my shelter and head to bed.
33:21There's no rain that is suspected to come tonight, so we should be good. I think my plan to stay
33:26away
33:26from all the mosquitoes tonight is basically just getting all the way in my sleeping bag,
33:29pulling it all all the way tight, and then hoping that I don't get catch out again like last night.
33:33But we should be good other than that. I'll see you guys in the morning.
33:40Well, that was one of the worst nights of sleep I've ever had in my whole life. It's now 1030.
33:44I
33:44slept in a bit because I literally did not fall asleep until like 3 or 4 a.m. I would
33:48get bombarded
33:49by mosquitoes on my face like crazy. So I'd tuck all the way in my sleeping bag to try to
33:53take shelter,
33:53but then it would overheat like insane. It was so hot. So I'd have to come back out and take
33:58a breather,
33:58get bombarded by mosquitoes again. And one time in the night, I had to pee super bad. So I got
34:03out
34:03of my sleeping bag and I was walking over there getting bombarded by mosquitoes and my croc tripped
34:07on a fallen log and I fell face first into another log. So that's what this is right here. But
34:12I
34:12gotta pack up and head out of here. My evac is in about an hour. And look at this. This
34:18side was already
34:18broken up my backpack and last night I went to get something and this side broke too. So now I
34:22have a zero
34:23functioning backpack. I'm just going to have to throw everything in there and get out of here.
34:30And this entire structure is dependent on one little spot right here. Watch this.
34:37There goes the whole thing. So
34:41leave no trace. Well, I got to go grab my other spinning rod that I left on in the woods
34:46on the
34:46way out of here. But let's get going.
34:52Well, I just can't wait to get out of here. I'm craving a big old bowl of double honey chicken
34:56from Chipotle in this shower and just all those things that you just take for granted on a normal
35:00day. But out here in the woods over the last three days, I've learned a lot of stuff. This was
35:04a
35:04super helpful adventure. I've learned just by me teaching myself doing research for this trip.
35:09I've learned a whole lot. And I feel as though I've reconnected with nature, but
35:13sometimes it feels like nature wants to kill you. My goodness. But hopefully you guys enjoyed this one.
