00:00Ukraine developer 4A has finally revealed Metro 2039,
00:04an all new entry in its apocalyptic tale of tunnels and gas masks.
00:09It's promising a much darker tone this time around,
00:12which is saying something for one of the bleakest games around.
00:16Although when you factor in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it's not hard to understand why,
00:21with 4A changing the game's story to reflect their reality of making the game under rocket
00:26and drone attacks. Metro 2039 follows a new voiced protagonist called The Stranger,
00:32described by co-creative director Pavel Olmar as,
00:36a recluse plagued by his violent nightmares, forced to undertake a harrowing journey back
00:41down to the Metro, a place he swore to never return.
00:44This new story is a dark step back from the previous game Exodus, tonally.
00:49If that sounds bleak, even by Metro's usual standards,
00:52it's because 4A has been making the game during the Russian invasion.
00:56The war has shaped us, and we have changed the story to be even more about choices,
01:02actions, consequences, and what you have to pay to have a future,
01:06says creative director Andrey Milshevchenko. Reality forced us to make a different approach,
01:12told from a uniquely Ukrainian perspective, but this is still a Metro story. Metro 2039 is
01:19currently coming this winter to PC, PS5, and Xbox.
