00:00Queenie is almost 92 years old and she has dementia and she was recently evicted from the
00:05almshouse in which she had been living for around 20 years and Kent County Council say that Queenie
00:10can live independently with a support package. However, her family are saying this is just the
00:15council's way of trying to save cash. So let's go in and have a look at what her family have
00:19to say.
00:23I received a call on the 27th of November from a member of the staff at Cutbush and Carroll saying
00:30sorry Queenie's going to have to move out the trustees have made their decision. I didn't
00:34want to tell Queenie before Christmas that she was going to lose her home of 20 years. The charity
00:41Cutbush and Carroll said that it had become obvious that Queenie was unable to live independently.
00:46So in response to the family they said that any decision regarding assessments of care needs are
00:51matters for the relevant statutory authorities. Two weeks before the family were told that Queenie
00:57was being evicted she was a victim of financial theft. Kathleen Perry took her bank card and
01:03alongside her daughter spent £2,300 from Queenie's account. It did frighten her because she said I'm
01:12not going up to bed at night I'm staying downstairs because I'm frightened of people knocking on the
01:17door. She wouldn't allow the real carers to come in unless they rang me and said can you ring Queenie
01:25and say we're here because we're still trying to help. The family approached Kent County Council's
01:30Adult Social Services for financial help to place Queenie in a care home but after a care needs
01:36assessment they said that Queenie's needs could be safely met in a general needs housing with an
01:41increased package of care which her family say has not been working for Queenie so far.
01:47In a statement KCC said in line with her needs Mrs Watts was being supported to access extra care
01:55accommodation a secure self-contained flat with on-site support.
02:00It's about money. That's what it appears to be. That's what it's showing. The other thing I would say
02:06is that there's been no empathy no understanding of the situation that the family's been in not only by
02:15the local authority but by the charity. With help from her nephew Queenie was able to move into a new
02:24care home in May this year but with fears that their funding will run out in 10 months time
02:29the family are unsure what will happen for Queenie next and are calling on the council for help.
