Rivals.com's Kelly Quinlan reported Thursday that Georgia Tech Head Coach Brent Key made two peculiar scholarship offers to Lane Kiffin's son Knox Kiffin (2028) and, notably Andrew Smart (2030), son of UGA Head Coach Kirby Smart. Rusty Mansell tells Steak Shapiro what this means.

00:00what a weird headline what a weird headline Brent Key yesterday what is announced by Georgia Tech
00:10well our Georgia Tech rival site Kelly Quinlan those guys do a great job on jacketsonline.com
00:15he reported yesterday he tweeted a picture of Brent Key talking to Andrew Smart Kirby Smart's son
00:19why was Kirby Smart's son at Georgia Tech yesterday was the Corky Kale 707 Athens Academy was a part
00:25of that team event and Brent Key got to watch Andrew Smart play a couple games and I'm pretty
00:34sure the picture from Kelly Quinlan is the moment that Brent Key offered Andrew Smart yesterday
00:40and I think people there's a lot of mixed kind of so Brent Key offered how old is Andrew he's
00:4914 okay
00:50he offered 14 year old Andrew Smart Kirby Smart's son offered him a Georgia Tech scholarship for 2000
00:58he's a 2030 2030 yeah yeah and it's not listen we haven't talked a lot about Kirby had a great
01:05day
01:05saved on college yesterday for Andrew that's a great day let me tell you something if he hasn't
01:09played football he's got a hell of a degree graduating Georgia Tech no doubt but but but how
01:13much of that is hype and how much of that is real let me be real careful with that because
01:18I think
01:18people like that is a gimmick deal Andrew Smart is a real now now let me say this because I'm
01:24in that
01:24world every day he's not the first 2030 with an offer that happens more than you think okay it just
01:30made it more headlines yesterday because who he was but Andrew is a real prospect at this point early on
01:37I think looking at the records because I've had him at several of my camps and I do all my
01:43stuff
01:44through Under Armour verified measurements they pay for me to send those measurements to them so I
01:48have to do electronic all that stuff I believe Andrew in a calendar year steak went from 5'10 to
01:586'2 in 12
02:00months he was 177 pounds six foot two wow here's the one he went from a size 12 shoe to
02:09a size 15 shoe
02:11how how in 11 months how tall is Kirby right it's six feet a little under 5'11 all right
02:18you don't
02:18I don't think I'm gonna say Kirby's six foot yeah if we NFL combine measured him yeah he hitting six
02:24foot all right so that's I'm trying to get around where is that height coming from Mary Beth yeah
02:29basketball player in Georgia she was a state she was miss best miss Georgian basketball senior at
02:34so she's look she's athletic to two d1 athletes uh Andrew Andrew is in his own if it was Andrew
02:42Smith he would be a prospect let me make that part clear okay so he he has that with him
02:46he's very
02:47young in this but don't let the last name fool you Andrew is going probably get in trouble for this
02:54that wasn't his first offer yesterday he's he has offers okay they're this they're the way they're
03:00handling it is not trying to put too much on him but he has offers yeah people have seen him
03:05throw
03:05they have offered him now if you wonder why you hadn't heard this before when you're 13 years old
03:10and you're 5'9 yeah it's not like there's going to be a lot of buzz the reason that got
03:15out yesterday
03:16is because a reporter saw that happen okay but tech announced it not Georgia Tech did not
03:22but they did not no rivals and rivals announced it but well Kelly Cullen works for rivals which he's
03:26doing his job right you know and and that's part of it but yesterday was not his first offer so
03:32this
03:32kid is a prospect so don't let the last name fool you you know a little bit about the inner
03:36workings
03:37of Georgia do you believe that Kirby would ever want to coach this kid in a quarterback competition
03:41at Georgia and be one of one of those four or five star quarterbacks that shows up there I would
03:46certainly think that Kirby would take the opportunity because he grew up playing for his dad
03:50in the moment uh look man that's just I mean that I'll say this that's so complicated at that
03:57position because what is Kirby going to do I'm going to bring in three five star but let me tell
04:03you
04:03you think Kirby Smart's gonna let Andrew Smart go play at Tennessee and head coach against him
04:08if Kirby Smart is in the position I'll say this if now let me tell you now let me be
04:13clear with this
04:14yes Kirby's nephew who is a big time prospect he committed to West Virginia yesterday he felt
04:21his path was to go play for somebody else and and not to play at Georgia not to play at
04:26Georgia he
04:27went to West Virginia he committed to West Virginia yesterday in what position and wide receiver and
04:31so he got down coming out of where Kale High School okay Brock Burris great player six foot five
04:36senior he's a rising senior he committed to West Virginia yesterday his path he wanted to go play
04:41for somebody else right now right um so so I don't know this this is such a long way to
04:47go but I'm
04:47just saying if you fast forward four years from now and the early path that Andrew Smart's on I
04:54would have a hard time believing Kirby's not going to spend time with his son Mike Bobo is coaching
04:59two of his sons at Georgia right now Jake Bobo is a freshman walk-on quarterback and his son Drew
05:04is
05:05probably maybe the best pro prospect on the team so you know you spend time with your kids it's invaluable
05:11what's the health of uh Drew Bobo he's gonna be he should he's doing really good how much do you
05:17think on a scale of one to ten that injury hurt Georgia's chance to win a national title oh man
05:22that was that was a massive that was a big one and I didn't really understand as much but spending
05:28some
05:28time in Athens afterwards the last couple of months it handicapped him pretty good bit in a run game
05:35and and and Drew is such a guy that makes all the calls Gunner depended a lot on him because
05:42he makes
05:42all the blitz call all the whatever and let me go watch my son or or three years or you
05:48don't watch
05:48your defense would probably want Andrew Smart in that locker room let me say this too real quick
05:52we're talking about Jordan Tech they have been on an absolute heater in recruiting they got three
05:56commits yesterday Brian Porter uh wide receiver out of New Jersey Jason Crenshaw linebacker out of
06:01Prattville Alabama and Antoine Luckett a wide receiver out of Colquitt I think Georgia Tech in
06:06the last six days has got eight verbal commits they're on an absolute tear and right now
06:11jackets online.com our rivals Georgia Tech site they do a great job they're all over but
06:16if you're a Georgia Tech fan right now and Brent Key they're on an absolute tear in recruiting you just
06:20made somebody's day driving around Atlanta a Georgia Tech alum and uh we they they understand they
06:26better understand what's going on well they're so buttoned up right now like now this is Brent Key
06:30what year four right yeah to be and God see there now our buddy and watching it the continuity of
06:38Justice Haynes
