00:00How much of a hurry is the U.S. in to strike some sort of a deal? Because, I mean,
00:05it doesn't seem
00:06that Israel is in a particular hurry for a deal, and Iran certainly doesn't seem to be in a hurry
00:11either. So does it look like it's just the U.S. that's in a hurry here? That's a good point,
00:15Tom.
00:15That's what it does look like. It looks like Iran, yes, they want to talk, they want to act,
00:20especially with their Gulf neighbors, like Qatar just was in Tehran. They want to make it look
00:25like they're doing things, but they're not doing things that would indicate they actually want
00:28and into the war. They are not even talking about permanently giving up the Strait of Hormuz,
00:34which under U.N. policy is an international waterway. It's basically the Convention on the
00:43Law of the Sea, and they know that. So they're asking for sanctions relief and unfreezing of
00:49assets just to give up something they don't possess, knowing that the U.S. can't do that
00:53strategically or diplomatically. And if the U.S. did do it, they'd have nothing to offer
00:58to get into a new nuclear agreement. So it just indicates to most, I think, analysts that they
01:04just don't want to end this in a negotiated settlement. And of course, they demand regional
01:10peace as part of their agreement to get into this settlement. And then they do nothing to reign in
01:16Hezbollah. They can talk about Israel, but they do nothing to reign in Hezbollah to include pushing
01:21them to join the ceasefire with Israel. So everything they're doing indicates that they don't want to
01:26see a ceasefire. And I think you are right, Tom. A lot of what Israel's doing indicates that they
01:30don't want to see an end to this conflict. They certainly don't want to see a new nuclear agreement
01:36with the terms that are being reportedly discussed. So the only party in this that seems to want this
01:42to end and end in a nuclear agreement that would do a lot to stabilize, I believe, the Middle East
01:48seems to be the United States.
