00:00Aaron Judge landed on the injured list with a stress fracture in his first rib on his right
00:04side. He's going to be reevaluated in four to six weeks. Can you take us through what's going on in
00:11his body when he swings and the pain that he was facing? A stress fracture is an incomplete fracture
00:17and these stress injuries typically happen over time. They don't typically happen after one
00:23specific incident and so when you think about baseball between pitching, throwing, swinging
00:30that involves a lot of rotational movement and so there are a lot of muscles that attach to the ribs
00:36and especially the first rib in general. So with every sort of rotation movement he's feeling those
00:42muscles pull against the bone that is injured and so that's why you know they have to take him out
00:47of the game. If a patient came into your office with a stress fracture of the rib, could you be
00:54as aggressive with their treatment plan like the Yankees could possibly be with Aaron Judge? Like
01:01how does your patient's rehab differ from the captain? So the rehab is definitely going to be a
01:06little bit slower than his but the amount of time that it's going to take for that bone to heal
01:12is going to be the same for Judge as it is going to be for my everyday athletes.
