00:00This chart is great news for Americans.
00:02Chinese cars are getting better and cheaper,
00:05and you might actually be able to buy one soon.
00:07The U.S. Commerce Department just gave Volvo a special waiver
00:10to bypass the ownership rule part of a national security ban
00:13on Chinese cars connected to the internet.
00:15Now, you might think, so what? Volvo is Swedish.
00:18It's actually majority-owned by Geely,
00:21one of China's massive automotive giants.
00:23But it's not just Geely.
00:24The breakthrough also paves a realistic path
00:26for major brands like BYD, China's top EV maker,
00:30to establish a more direct foothold in the U.S.
00:32And Trump says he welcomes Chinese companies
00:34as long as they build factories and hire locally,
00:37like Volvo did in South Carolina.
00:38Now, China has already become the world's biggest auto exporter,
00:41and the only fortress left to conquer was America.
00:45Yes, Congress is panicking and trying to write new bans,
00:48but political disputes can often be resolved
00:50if the commercial stakes are compelling enough.
00:53And the U.S. is already one of Volvo's biggest cash cows.
00:56Geely has proven its model works.
00:59Drivers in America are also exhausted
01:01by a cost-of-living crisis,
01:03and average car prices aren't helping.
01:05They recently hit an average of 50 grand.
01:07Surveys show that 40% of U.S. drivers
01:10would consider a Chinese brand.
01:12And if you look at Gen Z,
01:13that number skyrockets to nearly 70%.
01:16The demand for an affordable option
01:18is sitting right there.
01:20And if other companies follow Geely's lead,
01:22your next affordable car might just be Chinese.
