00:00This is just some of the chaos in Mexico since the death of El Mencho, one of the
00:05country's most notorious drug bosses. Since he was killed in a military raid
00:10Sunday, banks have been set on fire and cars torched on the highways. Entire
00:15areas of Mexico completely shut down including schools, although things are
00:20slowly returning to normal. Every time a major cartel losses its leader, Mexico
00:25and its people have to endure their revenge. The killing of a drug lord by
00:30itself rarely prevents the rise of a new one either. Still, President Claudia
00:36James Bond both moved deserve support and recognition because Nemesio Oseguera
00:41Cervantes, also known as El Mencho, wasn't a run-of-the-mill criminal. He was the
00:47leader of Mexico's most notorious cartel which generated billions each year from
00:51drug trafficking and extortion. In 2020 he even tried to kill Mexico's top cop.
00:57Just look at the terrifying level of paramilitary protection he used.
01:01James Bond had been under a lot of pressure from Donald Trump to do
01:04something about the drug cartels increasingly terrorizing Mexico and the
01:09U.S. even provided intelligent support for the raid. But targeting El Mencho
01:13wasn't just to appease Mexico's neighbor to the north.
01:16James Bond has now shown she's serious about fighting crime in her country.
01:21It's a major turning point from the hacks not-ballot strategy of her
01:25predecessor. But she'll have to prove her long-term plan is more than just
01:30balance.
