A heated political controversy has erupted after Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett made remarks about "white men parading Dr. King" during a congressional hearing involving the Southern Poverty Law Center. The comments quickly drew backlash online, but the debate intensified when Bernice King, daughter of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., publicly weighed in. The clash has reignited national discussions over Dr. King's legacy, race, politics, and who has the right to invoke his message in today's political battles.

00:00You know what? I hate that we have spent this much time, you know, on SPLC and we've not addressed
00:07the elephant in the room, the literal elephant in the room.
00:11The vast majority of the people on that side of the aisle, and for those of you that are at
00:16home, let me tell you, when I say that side of the aisle, I'm talking about the Republicans, the ones
00:21that brought this hearing.
00:22And again, you've heard that this is not the first hearing, but the vast majority of them are white men.
00:27White men are lecturing people of color because the vast majority, actually, any semblance of diversity comes from this side
00:36of the aisle.
00:37You want to tell people of color who is fighting for who?
00:42People of color do not feel comfortable or welcomed within your party.
00:46That's why you have to parade someone who has the name Dr. King attached to them so that people can
00:52be confused because I have been reading the comments online and people are like,
00:56who is this Dr. King?
00:57Because you want them to believe that somehow she espouses who Dr. King was, yet you've yet to have MLK
01:06III come in here.
01:07You've yet to have Dr. Bernice King, the ones that were actually raised by Dr. King, the ones that actually
01:13probably understand the teachings of Dr. King.
01:15And I just want to be clear because I want to talk to y'all about what the Dr. King
01:20had to say about racism so that y'all don't get it twisted and don't get it confused just because
01:25you see the name sitting in this room.
01:27Our nation was born in genocide when it embraced the doctrine that the original American, the Indian, was an inferior
01:35race.
01:36That was from his 1963 book, Why We Can't Wait.
01:41He also said in the final analysis, racism is evil because its ultimate logic is genocide.
01:49If one says that I am not good enough to live next door to him or to have a good,
01:55decent job or to go to school with him merely because of my race,
01:59he is saying consciously or unconsciously that I do not deserve to exist.
02:03This was from his 1967 speech, The Other America.
02:07So just to be clear, y'all don't seem like y'all even understand what a hate organization is.
02:15So I went to Google to help you out.
02:17A hate group is an organized group whose beliefs, practices and primary purpose are centered on advocating malice, hostility or
02:25violence towards people based on their immutable characteristics such as race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
02:36So I know some of y'all are, you know, caping for Charlie Kirk because I didn't heard y'all
02:42talk about his organization over and over and over.
02:45So I'm not going to play with anybody who's going to play with my time.
02:48So I'm going directly to Ms. McCord.
02:50Professor, let me put some respect on your name.
02:53All right.
02:54If I see a black pilot, I'm going to be like, boy, I hope he's qualified.
03:00Does that sound like a hater or not?
03:03That sounds like a racial stereotype.
03:06Okay.
03:06Sounds good to me.
03:07We made a huge mistake when we passed the Civil Rights Act in the mid-1960s.
03:14That sounds like someone who still adheres to racist views.
03:19Okay.
03:20America has freedom of religion, of course, but we should be frank.
03:24Large, dedicated Islamic areas are a threat to America.
03:29That is someone who can't accept that America is a multiracial, multireligious place.
03:34Okay.
03:35These all just happen to be comments from the fearless leader of Turning Point USA.
03:41So I could see where SPLC was going.
03:44I also think that it's so interesting that right now, just for those sitting at home,
03:48you may not know that Oversight is not having any hearings right now because the Republicans don't want to deal
03:53with the Epstein file.
03:54So they have shut down all of Oversight Committee hearings, right?
03:58So we've got an indictment for SPLC.
04:01I have still yet to see an indictment on any Epstein defendant.
04:06Not a one, but okay.
04:09And we want to talk about what happened in Charlottesville.
04:12And we are so upset about Charlottesville.
04:17All of a sudden, I would be interested to know which one of you had something to say about Charlottesville
04:23when it happened,
04:23because I don't think that y'all were saying those same things.
04:26In fact, our fearless leader at the time said that there were pretty fine people on both sides.
04:30You were okay with the tiki torches.
04:32You were okay with it.
04:33But I digress.
04:34I'm going to move on to Texas in my last 24 seconds.
04:38In your testimony before the Texas House of Representatives, you read aloud a series of messages between you and other
04:44whistleblowers,
04:45basically explaining the corruption happening directed by Attorney General Ken Paxton.
04:49On page 82, lines 5 through 11, you list all the corruption that Ken Paxton directed you and others to
04:55carry out.
04:56To quote, demanding that we investigate facially bogus charges, refusing to take our advice,
05:01that there is no prosecutable offense, demanding that we hire outside counsel and authorizing an improper phishing expedition.
05:09Is that correct?
05:11Time to delay is expired.
05:13The gentleman can respond if you want.
05:14My testimony from that proceeding stands for itself.
05:20The gentleman's time has expired.
05:22I understand.
05:23Our next person is going to give you time, Dr. King, to respond.
05:25So we will now recognize the gentleman from South Carolina.
05:28I'm going to be gone.
05:30Dr. King, thank you for being here.
05:32I know that there was a monologue earlier in which you wanted to respond.
05:36I think you were kind of ready to do that.
05:38But we're not given that opportunity.
05:40Would you like to briefly respond to that?
05:41Very briefly, Congresswoman.
05:44I am a bit emotional.
05:46I'm going to watch what I say.
05:49But it seems as though you have suggested that I am a bastard to the King family legacy.
