Detective Chief Inspector Glen Broadhead addresses the media after police arrested and charged a man with the August 2025 murder of Brandon Yates.

00:00Around 3.20 on the 17th of August last year, emergency services were called to a block of units in
00:06Crown Street at Wollongong in relation to a male who had been injured.
00:10Upon emergency services attending, they located a male person who had suffered a wound to the chest area.
00:17He was in a critical condition. He was treated at the scene by emergency services and then ambulance conveyed him
00:23to Wollongong Hospital.
00:24As a result of the injury and the critical condition, he was transferred to St George Hospital where he was
00:31treated.
00:32Unfortunately, he died as a result of his injuries on the 23rd of August.
00:37As a result of that, Wollongong detectives created strike force Alcade.
00:41The strike force was set up to investigate the death of the man.
00:46As a result of that, detectives have executed a search warrant in Wollongong this morning where they've arrested a 41
00:53-year-old man.
00:54He's been brought to Wollongong Police Station where he's been charged in relation to the murder of the young person
00:59who was initially stabbed.
01:01Wollongong detectives have been in touch with the family.
01:04We've kept them appraised of our investigation as it's proceeded since August.
01:09As you'd expect, they're greatly relieved and very thankful for the work that's been done by detectives.
