00:00Without Operation Overlord, we would not have the free world we know today.
00:04Together with our allies, America saved Western civilization.
00:11This day, an annual reminder of the heavy cost of freedom,
00:17but also a reminder as we look out at those crosses of what it takes.
00:26And we ask ourselves again, do we have it?
00:33Today, as we face an increasingly complex threat environment,
00:38we apply the lessons from 82 years ago learned on these beaches.
00:45Strong allies, each fully committed to doing their part, win wars.
00:52The men buried here fought in a warfighting alliance where every partner
00:58brought its full measure of industry, courage, and sacrifice.
01:04Not empty slogans, not lavish summits, not communiques.
01:11Real allies, doing real things, taking real losses for a shared cause worth fighting and dying for.
01:21Each nation pulled its weight.
01:24Each nation bled.
01:26America will lead, and we must.
01:31But capable allies must be right there with us, shoulder to shoulder, in the breach, when it matters.
01:43In the years since these beaches, much of the West, in some places, in some quarters, and in some capitals,
01:52grew comfortable.
01:54We forgot that freedom is not free.
01:58We forgot that peace is not wished into being.
02:02It is bought with purpose, with honor, and with strength.
02:06The men who landed on these beaches knew this.
02:11The question we ask ourselves is, do we?
02:15It's past time we remember what they knew.
02:19Their legacy demands far more than quiet reflection.
02:23It requires our active vigilance.
02:27Sadly, today, different European beaches are stormed by different dangerous ideologies.
02:36Each is in Spain, in Italy, in Greece, and in Bulgaria.
02:41Boats and men arrive.
02:45When will European capitals do something about that invasion?
02:51Or is it too late?
02:53I pray not, and I believe not.
02:56The men who fought and died here restored freedom to Europe.
03:00That freedom must be maintained by this generation of leaders and warfighters.
03:04Or what they fought for was merely temporary.
03:08To be continued...
03:09...
