More than 5,000 football fans across five countries including 511 in Miami in the United States joined a synchronised ball juggling attempt on June 6, setting a new Guinness World Record while drawing attention to the growing impact of extreme weather on the sport.

In Mexico City, some 30,000 people also made the largest Mexican wave to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the famous celebration that first gained global recognition during the 1986 World Cup held in Mexico.

00:01Great, but Dan, can you give us a bit more detail about the rules?
00:04I'm going to keep it really simple, and so she knows what this is about.
00:08We're going to keep it simple, though, right?
00:16For the second part of the youth.
00:31The crowd continues, it's going, it's going, it's going!
00:36Miami is playing in here, Street Talker, Oakland.
00:41We don't miss our moment at 12.30 p.m. sharp.
00:44Well, because the cameras that are filming this moment, it needs to be a pretty clear.
00:51Today, I can announce in Miami, Florida.
01:01USA, you have a total, around the world, of 511.
01:08It's a new Guinness World Record title.
01:12Congratulations.
01:14You guys are officially amazing.
01:17Great job.
01:19This Guinness World Record is important because we're also raising funds for our adaptation tool hit
01:24to help grassroots fields adapt to street weather.
01:27So, disproportionately affected from the stadiums are the parks and the schools,
01:32and we just want to help them play for longer.
01:34This is important because we want to grow awareness about climate change
01:37and how this affects the areas where we can play.
01:40And there's a fund behind all of this, which is going to support those pitches and places in the world
01:45where they need help to protect themselves from extreme weather.
01:48As a football player, I mean, climate change affects our game.
01:52Even two nights ago, I went to play a game.
01:54We had to wait over an hour just to play because there was a huge storm that came by.
01:59We all love the game, but we also need to be safe.
02:02And it's going to be one of the hottest World Cups on record.
02:05And Miami is already set to be one of the hottest cities if they don't have air conditioning.
02:09And we love the game.
02:10It is a vibrant community, but we also need to be safe and protect the game.
02:23First, I'm here because we've come to participate in the biggest wave of the world
02:30and because we've come to support our Mexican seleccion.
02:33Because we want to Mexico, we're Mexicanos and we're very proud of our country.
02:46And we're here today to participate in the wave.
02:53It's a special occasion that is going to be to the World Cup and we are here to participate.
