Global juggling record highlights climate risks to the game

More than 5,000 football fans across five countries joined a synchronized juggling attempt on Saturday, setting a new Guinness World Record while drawing attention to the growing impact of extreme weather on the sport. The initiative, led by nonprofit Count Us In under its “Where Football Lives” campaign, saw participants at over 50 venues in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Brazil and the United Kingdom juggle a soccer ball simultaneously for 10 seconds. Guinness World Records adjudicator Michael Empric confirmed that 511 participants were officially counted in the coordinated effort, surpassing the previous record of 459. Miami Beach’s Lummus Park served as the main US hub for the event, held alongside the Copa del Sol community soccer festival. Organizers said the attempt aimed to spotlight the risks climate change poses to both professional and grassroots football, especially ahead of what is expected to be one of the hottest World Cups on record.

00:00Street Soccer Miami is playing in here.
00:03Street Soccer Oakland.
00:04We don't miss our moment at 1230 PM sharp.
00:19This Guinness World Record is important because we're also raising funds for our adaptation tool hit to help grassroots fields
00:25adapt to street weather.
00:27So, disproportionately affected from the stadiums are the parks and the schools that we just want to help them play
00:33for longer.
00:34The competition will be uniting with players around the country.
00:39I mean, it's only with the feet. We can do our knees, right? Probably with the head. Whatever you feel
00:43more comfortable.
00:44This is important because we want to grow awareness about climate change and how this affects the areas where we
00:49can play.
00:49And there's a fund behind all of this which is going to support those pitches and places in the world
00:55where they need help to protect themselves from extreme weather.
00:59For the second part of the Youth Cup, please go to the registry.
01:11We all love the game, but we also need to be safe and it's going to be one of the
01:15hottest World Cups on record.
01:17And Miami is already set to be one of the hottest cities and they don't have air conditioning.
01:21And we love the game and it's a vibrant community, but we also need to be safe and protect the
01:26game.
01:26And I think we've really normalized the hydration breaks when in fact it's a reaction to the fact that it's
01:31no longer safe to play at normal levels.
01:33And extreme heat is only getting worse and I think we need to address it now and adapt.
01:37As well, because the cameras that are filming this moment, it needs to be a really clean...
01:43Great. Like Dan, can you give us a bit more detail about the rules?
01:47I'm going to keep it really simple and I'm also going to call up my most famous person.
01:51So she knows what this is about. We're going to keep it simple though, right?
01:55Right now it's not about fancy tricks, it's about simplicity. All you need is a ball and for 10 seconds...
02:06As a football player, I mean climate change affects our game. Even two nights ago I went to play a
02:12game.
02:13We had to wait over an hour just to play because there was a huge storm that came by.
02:27...tower than me goes to the back. But on that side of the field we all have to...
02:33Today I can announce in Miami, Florida, USA, you had a total...
02:46...around the world of 511. It's a new World Records title. Congratulations.
02:56You guys are officially amazing. Great job.
03:01Alright, on the count of three, can everybody say one game, one passion?
03:07We got everyone here.
03:10Happy!
03:20Ok, thank you.
