00:00:00Three teams, seven weeks, $100,000 renovation, and one winner.
00:00:15Are you ready?
00:00:18Second place is the first loser.
00:00:20I'm here to take my team to the top of the podium, baby.
00:00:26This is a real battle with real properties.
00:00:29And unfortunately, it's going to damage real egos.
00:00:33I know what the judges want, and $50,000 is on the line, and we have to deliver.
00:00:40We handpicked you as our three teams because we saw your work and your commitment.
00:00:46Are you kidding me?
00:00:47This is a mother-daughter team in overalls from Nebraska.
00:00:51They're ready to prove something to the world.
00:00:54We do hear you.
00:00:55We do hear you.
00:00:55Oh, good.
00:00:56You do hear me.
00:00:56And sometimes we follow through with it, and sometimes it's enough.
00:01:00For Angelina and Steven, this is more than a game.
00:01:03They're parents of four kids.
00:01:05They want to use this money to buy their first home.
00:01:07They have a lot of talent.
00:01:09They have a lot of grit, and this would change their life.
00:01:11We're going to win this week.
00:01:13Optimism.
00:01:13I love it.
00:01:15Anna and Josiah have something that I consider priceless, which is called youth.
00:01:22They run rental properties, so they're not rookies in this game.
00:01:25And I think they're going to outwork the other two teams.
00:01:29Wow.
00:01:29I want it.
00:01:30You've got to want the win.
00:01:35Everything's ugly.
00:01:37Something might be broken.
00:01:38That's three different floors.
00:01:41I'm stressed about time and money.
00:01:45Oh, this is fun.
00:01:46What?
00:01:48I love this.
00:01:51Oh.
00:01:52Oh.
00:01:53Hmm.
00:01:54This is interesting.
00:01:56This opportunity is definitely going to change our lives personally.
00:02:01One in a million.
00:02:02Babe!
00:02:04Kind of busy right now.
00:02:05This needs to be handled, like, today.
00:02:09See, we are so different on our thoughts.
00:02:12I need to take five.
00:02:13Uh-oh.
00:02:15I don't really see how we're supposed to get this whole house done.
00:02:17Like, not humanly possible.
00:02:20And the winner of Battle on the Beach is...
00:02:42We are back.
00:02:44New beach.
00:02:46New mentors.
00:02:48New teams.
00:02:50Same old time.
00:02:53I'm excited to work with a mother and daughter team.
00:02:55And hopefully they work really well together.
00:02:57This is my daughter, Sydney.
00:02:59This is my mom, Michelle.
00:03:00And we're from Nebraska.
00:03:01Yep.
00:03:02From the middle of nowhere, Nebraska.
00:03:06Her husband wouldn't come with her.
00:03:08That's why I'm here.
00:03:10My husband came home with the toilet on the front porch when we first got married
00:03:14because we couldn't afford to have somebody do it for us.
00:03:16So we just had to learn how to do it ourselves.
00:03:18But we've probably done, I don't know, between 20 and 30 houses.
00:03:22I am a DIY content creator.
00:03:25My husband and I have renovated six houses.
00:03:27At the beginning, my mom helped us with a few of the first ones.
00:03:30And then we've kind of jumped out of her nest and been able to do it on our own.
00:03:34I will confess, I am a little...
00:03:39Hard-headed?
00:03:40Hard-headed.
00:03:41But she is a younger version of me.
00:03:43True.
00:03:47So you guys know me as Mika from 100 Day Dream Home, or perhaps winner of Rock the Block
00:03:52and Barbie Dream House Challenge.
00:03:53I am going to be the perfect mentor for my team because I know how to listen, but also
00:03:58to keep it real and candid if something is not going to help them win.
00:04:07I'm Anna.
00:04:08Or no, I'm going to say, I'm Anna.
00:04:09No, you're not.
00:04:11That's a pretty good blooper.
00:04:12Go!
00:04:12All right.
00:04:13I'm...
00:04:14My name's Josiah.
00:04:15I'm Anna from Baltimore, Maryland.
00:04:17So we have one kid, Lena, our daughter.
00:04:19She's one and a half years old.
00:04:20We got into renovation when we got married.
00:04:23He moved into a house that had no kitchen.
00:04:25I had just finished the bathroom.
00:04:27And he was honestly not on board with the whole renovation thing, but we looked at the
00:04:32resale value, and he was like, oh, we can make money in this.
00:04:35We've been working with each other in our business for six years.
00:04:38At the beginning of our relationship, Anna had a lot of skills that were beyond what I
00:04:42could do.
00:04:43You were able to teach me a lot of things.
00:04:44We're on the same playing field now.
00:04:46We're going to win!
00:04:52I'm Sarah Baumler, and I'm used to being a judge, but this year, I'm changing sides,
00:04:58and I'm becoming a mentor.
00:04:59I'm very competitive.
00:05:00I want to win, but I also understand this is about my team.
00:05:04So I'm hoping to take all of that information from years of experience here on the beach
00:05:08and hopefully bring my team to a win.
00:05:13I'm Stephen Jacobs.
00:05:14This is my wife, Angelina Jacobs.
00:05:15We're from Waterbury, Connecticut.
00:05:17And I've been doing construction for about seven years now, and my husband joined with
00:05:22me about two years ago.
00:05:25Most of the work that I learned was on my own and self-taught.
00:05:29People told me they used to be pretty to do construction.
00:05:31You used to be beautiful to do construction.
00:05:32No, I like construction, and I'm going to keep doing this until my fingers are all off,
00:05:37and then I'm going to glue them back on.
00:05:42Welcome to Battle on the Beach.
00:05:46We are smack dab in the center of a beautiful 60-mile span of coastal beach called the Grand Strand.
00:05:59We hand-picked you as our three teams because we saw your work and your commitment.
00:06:05In other words, we believe in you.
00:06:08But this isn't going to be a walk on the beach.
00:06:10You'll need to bring your design and renovation A-game every day if you want a chance at winning
00:06:17the $50,000 prize.
00:06:19Let's talk about the competition.
00:06:21This area attracts 20 million visitors annually, so we're focusing on those vacationers this
00:06:27time around.
00:06:28We're working with three vacation homes that are in need of a major glow-up.
00:06:32These are the biggest houses we've ever featured on Battle on the Beach.
00:06:37Two of the houses have near identical layouts, but the third house is a little bit smaller.
00:06:41The average weekly rental rates of these homes fall in the range of $1,900 to $2,800.
00:06:50Similar size houses in this area, they can usually run up to $7,000 during high season.
00:06:57And high season is right around the corner.
00:07:00Each week, you will be assigned an area in the house to renovate.
00:07:03Each team will have $100,000 to put towards their designs and only seven weeks to renovate.
00:07:13How you want to spend your money is completely up to you.
00:07:16And at the end of each week, the team who increases the rental rate of their space the most will
00:07:22win $3,000.
00:07:26At the end of your seven-week build, with the help of local experts, the judges will determine
00:07:32which team increased the overall rental rate.
00:07:35And the winner will walk away with the $50,000 grand prize.
00:07:41What would $50,000 mean to each of you?
00:07:45We're going to finish our house because it is unlivable right now.
00:07:49Good call.
00:07:49That's a good plan.
00:07:50Angelina and Steven, we're going to hopefully buy our first house because we actually never
00:07:55had one.
00:07:55I like that plan.
00:07:57That's good motivation.
00:07:58And Sydney and Michelle, we want to start a business together flipping houses.
00:08:02These are great.
00:08:03Yeah, these are great calls.
00:08:05So are you ready to find out your house assignments?
00:08:08Yes!
00:08:09Woo-hoo!
00:08:09Well, the competition starts before you really even get to the houses.
00:08:16Your first head-to-head challenge is all about getting to know your location and home.
00:08:22You'll be competing in a race to collect three battle flags.
00:08:26Each flag will have a clue leading you to the next location.
00:08:29You will tour each house along your journey.
00:08:31The first team to hit all the destinations and return here will be given the chance to
00:08:38choose their own house and assign the others.
00:08:43Oh, yeah!
00:08:44That is big.
00:08:45That's a big.
00:08:46How much time you spend at each vacation home is entirely up to you.
00:08:50But choose wisely.
00:08:51Take too long and you might lose your pick.
00:08:54Rush through and you could win without knowing which home is best.
00:08:59So here's your first clue.
00:09:03Oh, yeah.
00:09:04Here you go.
00:09:05You guys can open them once you get in your bikes.
00:09:07Okay.
00:09:08You guys ready?
00:09:09Yeah!
00:09:11Three, two, one, go!
00:09:17Come on, guys!
00:09:19Come on!
00:09:19Go!
00:09:20Go!
00:09:22Here you go.
00:09:23Here you go.
00:09:23Here you go.
00:09:23Here you go.
00:09:24Open it.
00:09:253-3-A is where the challenge begins.
00:09:28Go!
00:09:28Left!
00:09:29Left!
00:09:30Woo!
00:09:32Safety is number one priority.
00:09:34We can do it.
00:09:35Hustle, hustle, hustle, hustle.
00:09:382-1-2, 2-1-6.
00:09:40It's right here.
00:09:40Put it in the park.
00:09:42Run up.
00:09:43Having the first pick of the house is such an advantage and we need that advantage.
00:09:47Okay.
00:09:48Oh, my gosh.
00:09:49All right.
00:09:50Okay.
00:09:51Five bedrooms, five baths.
00:09:53Look around, too.
00:09:55Do not use.
00:09:56What the heck is going on with that fireplace?
00:09:59Ugh.
00:09:59It stinks like mold.
00:10:02Having five bedrooms and five baths, it has a great footprint.
00:10:05We don't have to really add any more bathrooms to that space.
00:10:09This is nice.
00:10:11There's an upstairs.
00:10:13Oh, my God.
00:10:15Flag.
00:10:16Look under the bed.
00:10:18You look under the bed, I look under the mat.
00:10:19This is nice.
00:10:21The vaulted ceiling, tiny bathroom.
00:10:25These are flags.
00:10:26Grab it.
00:10:28Wait, did you find the next school?
00:10:29Get ready to pedal two doors down.
00:10:31Right there.
00:10:32Chin!
00:10:34Big.
00:10:35Uh-huh.
00:10:37Whoa.
00:10:38It's weird that you walk into the...
00:10:40Right to the kitchen.
00:10:41Especially at the beach, you want to walk into kind of a mud room instead of, like, walking
00:10:45into a kitchen, getting sand in your food.
00:10:47That's not a fun experience.
00:10:49Five, five.
00:10:50Having five bathrooms, I think, is a big plus.
00:10:52You probably wouldn't even need to add one because there's enough in the house.
00:10:55Which would save us so much money.
00:10:57It's big and open, which is nice.
00:10:58I love all the windows.
00:11:00But really good view.
00:11:01Let me have your own little pier.
00:11:02It's nice there's a bedroom on the first floor.
00:11:04Carpet.
00:11:05What's under the carpet?
00:11:06The three bedroom and baths upstairs have plenty of space.
00:11:10Okay.
00:11:10Let's go.
00:11:11All right, we're not spending that much time here.
00:11:13Oh, there's a flag.
00:11:14Oh!
00:11:18Nice.
00:11:20Three.
00:11:20Congratulations, it worked out.
00:11:23Did we find a ranch?
00:11:24Are your legs burning?
00:11:26Yes.
00:11:26We're here.
00:11:27Honey, we're home.
00:11:28Uh-oh.
00:11:29I like this.
00:11:30That's a fireplace.
00:11:31I like the windows.
00:11:32Five beds, three baths.
00:11:34Five beds?
00:11:35There's a lot of beds, but the kitchen's tiny.
00:11:41Ugly bathrooms.
00:11:42House three is small, but it does have some nice features.
00:11:45I had a lot of windows already there that were already facing the beach and a fireplace.
00:11:50Look up there.
00:11:51Oh.
00:11:53Okay, flag.
00:11:55Looking in bed.
00:11:57Pictures on the deck.
00:11:59Got the flag.
00:12:04Uh-oh, they're coming in.
00:12:06Go, go, go.
00:12:07Hey!
00:12:08Hey!
00:12:09How's it going?
00:12:09Hey!
00:12:10What the fuck?
00:12:12Five bedrooms, three bathrooms.
00:12:152143 is the square footage.
00:12:16We were on a time limit, and we had to hurry up.
00:12:18We tried to be strategic.
00:12:20Come on.
00:12:20I got one more.
00:12:22Oh.
00:12:23No.
00:12:27Weird that you come into the kitchen again.
00:12:28Five, five again, too.
00:12:30So the next house over is basically identical to the first house.
00:12:33So we're not really paying attention.
00:12:35We just run through it and try to get first place in the challenge.
00:12:38I don't do stairs.
00:12:40I don't either.
00:12:40Oh, gosh.
00:12:42We do not want this one.
00:12:43No character.
00:12:44There's zero character.
00:12:45Everything's ugly.
00:12:46Sorry, homeowners.
00:12:48I don't like this one.
00:12:50I don't either.
00:12:53No!
00:12:53What's this up?
00:12:54What?
00:12:55What is that?
00:12:55What are they coming here?
00:12:56Don't hit our competition.
00:12:58Her car!
00:12:59They're trying to sabotage us.
00:13:00Mom!
00:13:01Come on!
00:13:02Come on!
00:13:02When she's tired, directions go out the window.
00:13:06Oh, my gosh.
00:13:07Come on.
00:13:09Oh, I like this one.
00:13:11I got the flag.
00:13:14Where's the elevators in these suckers?
00:13:17We're here, honey.
00:13:18It's identical.
00:13:19Can we already look at this one?
00:13:23Okay.
00:13:24So we walk into house three.
00:13:26This is the worst house.
00:13:27We don't want this one.
00:13:28There's not a lot of space you could, like, take away and out of the bathroom.
00:13:31Last one, last one.
00:13:33There's maybe one person in front of us.
00:13:35We just got to pass him.
00:13:36Okay, we're good.
00:13:37That way!
00:13:39Don't worry.
00:13:39Thanks.
00:13:40Your steering really threw us.
00:13:42Sorry.
00:13:43My bad.
00:13:43We're spinning.
00:13:46Get on the road.
00:13:47Get on the road.
00:13:47A little mishap.
00:13:49It's going to show.
00:13:50Come on.
00:13:51Hustle, hustle, hustle, hustle.
00:13:52My legs are going.
00:13:54Bring it right here, right?
00:13:55Stop.
00:13:55Go, go.
00:13:56No!
00:13:58We turn into the little parking lot, and we see another bike.
00:14:04We're here.
00:14:05Are we the last?
00:14:06It feels like we're at the Olympics right now.
00:14:08Let's go!
00:14:10That is amazing.
00:14:13Come on, here.
00:14:14Let's go.
00:14:15Let's go.
00:14:16Wow.
00:14:16Woo!
00:14:18Here they come.
00:14:40This competition was a big deal, because this is like, we're choosing our house for the rest of the competition.
00:14:45It was pretty devastating because we didn't want to give that power to another team.
00:14:49Oh, here comes the next team!
00:14:51It's not pretty!
00:14:52But we made it!
00:14:55It should have worked out!
00:14:57I did made it!
00:14:58Athleticism is not our strength.
00:15:00Can't win them all, so we're going to win every other one.
00:15:03The houses suck.
00:15:05They do.
00:15:05Sorry.
00:15:06Yeah.
00:15:07What you thinking?
00:15:08Well, don't you want to know over there.
00:15:12The house we want overall, we were probably tied with the first two.
00:15:16They were quite similar.
00:15:17Basically identical.
00:15:18The rooms were pretty big and the bathrooms were decently big,
00:15:22so overall we just really liked either one of those houses.
00:15:25We really didn't want the third house.
00:15:27House number three is small and there's only three bathrooms,
00:15:30but it does have the lowest rental rate, meaning we can raise it the most.
00:15:34I hope they don't give us the bad house.
00:15:36They are all in need of a lot.
00:15:38Is there any property that has the ability where you can have two primary bedrooms
00:15:42that will both have a private on-suite?
00:15:44Because then you can rent it to two families.
00:15:46That was number two, right?
00:15:47That was five bedrooms, five bedrooms.
00:15:49There's two five bedrooms, five bedrooms.
00:15:51There's one, five, and three.
00:15:52That's the last one.
00:15:53Yep.
00:15:53The last one is smaller.
00:15:54Going into house two, I was just like, yeah, there was two check marks on there.
00:15:58It had the space, it had the nice footprints,
00:16:00and it had the view that you cannot put into a house.
00:16:04As far as the first house, I did like the way that the layout was
00:16:07because house one and two are very similar,
00:16:09but house one had a fireplace that said do not use,
00:16:12and we already have a tight budget,
00:16:14so I'm not trying to have to fix or replace that.
00:16:18The last house was nice, though.
00:16:20The only downfall is you're dealing with a small, confined space,
00:16:23and I feel like they're going to definitely have to add some bathrooms
00:16:26in order to add value.
00:16:27And with the time, I'm not sure if they're going to be able to do that.
00:16:30It's time for Team Sarah to make their decision.
00:16:34So which house will it be?
00:16:37For our house?
00:16:42We're going to go with house number two.
00:16:44Number two?
00:16:45Yes.
00:16:46Honestly, the footprint of it is already there.
00:16:49The view is already there.
00:16:50And with five bedrooms and five baths,
00:16:52we can possibly give our house, like, two separate primary suites.
00:16:58So dare I ask, what do you choose for Team Mika?
00:17:10So we're going to go with house number three.
00:17:14Okay.
00:17:16We do feel bummed that we got house number three
00:17:19because it might be the worst one.
00:17:22But because house three had the lowest weekly rental value,
00:17:25we think that it might,
00:17:26we might be able to raise it the most.
00:17:28So I guess Team Ty is getting house number one.
00:17:32One, yes.
00:17:34Because we're number one.
00:17:35So we know house number one is not that great.
00:17:38They say you can't fix ugly,
00:17:40but you can fix ugly houses.
00:17:43Now, with your beach homes decided,
00:17:45we get into the first battle.
00:17:47We are kicking off the competition
00:17:49with a gathering place for vacationers to come together.
00:17:53Yes.
00:17:54And the room with the best views in the house,
00:17:56the living room.
00:17:58This will include the entryway and the stairs.
00:18:01Oh, shoot.
00:18:02High traffic areas mean even higher stakes,
00:18:05and we're starting off swinging.
00:18:07I hope you're ready,
00:18:09because battle on the beach begins now.
00:18:14All right, guys, let's do it.
00:18:17Let's just get it out of here.
00:18:19This is awesome.
00:18:23Oh, no!
00:18:25It is broken.
00:18:27Yikes.
00:18:28Concerns are mounting.
00:18:29I understand this is your vision.
00:18:30I just don't want it to be the downfall
00:18:32of this entire week,
00:18:34because the big things didn't get finished.
00:18:36I understand.
00:18:37I have an idea,
00:18:38like a drop area for all your beach stuff,
00:18:41and what would you put there
00:18:42that might add to the value?
00:18:44I don't know.
00:18:44I need to take five.
00:18:46Uh-oh.
00:18:47It's me?
00:18:47No, it's me.
00:18:53Here we go.
00:18:54House number three.
00:18:56House three is 2,143 square feet.
00:18:59It has two bedrooms,
00:19:01one bath downstairs,
00:19:02and three bedrooms,
00:19:03two baths upstairs.
00:19:05I think our biggest fear
00:19:07with house number three
00:19:08is that it's small,
00:19:09and there's only three bathrooms,
00:19:11so we're going to have
00:19:11to add a bathroom for sure.
00:19:14Wow.
00:19:15Wallpaper.
00:19:16I don't remember that.
00:19:17The table is right next to the door.
00:19:19A little tight.
00:19:20I don't love that.
00:19:20Where you don't want to
00:19:21pull the dishwasher in the fridge.
00:19:23That could be a problem.
00:19:25I mean, this whole kitchen needs to go,
00:19:27let's be honest.
00:19:29The first bedrooms.
00:19:30Small-ish,
00:19:31but there is a closet.
00:19:33And so the first floor bathroom.
00:19:35Tidy, for sure,
00:19:37but decent layout.
00:19:39All right, let's go upstairs.
00:19:40Tall ceilings.
00:19:42So right when you come up the stairs,
00:19:43you have this,
00:19:44I could see this out from the road.
00:19:46It's not real.
00:19:47Sticker.
00:19:47Sad.
00:19:48But again, the layout is not bad.
00:19:50We can work with this.
00:19:52This is the primary, I would say.
00:19:54Yeah.
00:19:54Bathroom.
00:19:55Windows look a little water damaged.
00:19:57Yeah, we definitely got some water damage.
00:19:59This bathroom is huge.
00:20:02Double vanity.
00:20:03And all of this wallpaper.
00:20:06Yikes.
00:20:07What are the odds
00:20:07it actually works?
00:20:08It probably does
00:20:09with mold coming out of it.
00:20:12All right,
00:20:13we're done to see this house.
00:20:14Our house is 2,300 square feet.
00:20:17On the first floor,
00:20:18there's one bedroom,
00:20:19one bath,
00:20:20and on the second floor,
00:20:21there's four bedrooms
00:20:22and four bathrooms.
00:20:23Oh, my God.
00:20:25It's hard to open the door now.
00:20:26Pull it all.
00:20:26This is definitely getting replaced.
00:20:28Oh, my goodness.
00:20:30Look at that popcorn.
00:20:32That's got to go.
00:20:33These windows are so gorgeous.
00:20:36That is.
00:20:36Oh, my God.
00:20:37This kitchen.
00:20:38Why are there two refrigerators in here?
00:20:40Oh, my goodness.
00:20:42Oh, this light
00:20:43gots to go.
00:20:43This is crazy old.
00:20:46It is.
00:20:47Woo!
00:20:47Definitely got to update this.
00:20:49Oh, my goodness.
00:20:51This carpet
00:20:51gots to go.
00:20:54Look at this view.
00:20:55Look at this view.
00:20:56Oh!
00:20:57I am open to getting rid of that window.
00:21:01No.
00:21:02We're not going for this.
00:21:04We are going for that.
00:21:07Understood.
00:21:09I am the boss.
00:21:10She is the boss.
00:21:11He listens to me,
00:21:12and I appreciate that.
00:21:14He lets me have my space to control.
00:21:17Give it a little love.
00:21:18Yeah.
00:21:20Here we go.
00:21:21All right, here we go.
00:21:23House one is 2,411 square feet.
00:21:27There's one bedroom
00:21:28and one bath on the first floor,
00:21:29and four bedrooms
00:21:30and four baths on the second floor.
00:21:32Popcorn.
00:21:33Popcorn.
00:21:34Popcorn.
00:21:34Everywhere popcorn.
00:21:36We have a fireplace.
00:21:38Do not use.
00:21:39Looks like we get
00:21:40two dining rooms.
00:21:42Double the seating.
00:21:44All your friends can come.
00:21:46Good-sized kitchen,
00:21:47but ugly kitchen.
00:21:48And apparently our entryway.
00:21:50This whole thing right here
00:21:51is just very congested.
00:21:52Straight into the kitchen.
00:21:53No place to drop your stuff.
00:21:54Now, where are we going?
00:21:56Bathroom.
00:21:56What in the?
00:21:57It's a long, narrow, ugly bathroom.
00:22:01Shotgun.
00:22:03Is this salmon?
00:22:04Is this salmon?
00:22:05Huge room.
00:22:07Carpet's got to go.
00:22:08Color's got to go.
00:22:09You want to head upstairs?
00:22:10Very dark.
00:22:11Oh, very dark.
00:22:13Primary bedroom.
00:22:15Balcony.
00:22:16Something might be broken.
00:22:17Oh, yeah.
00:22:18It's kind of open.
00:22:20Bathroom looks small.
00:22:22I can't make that much bigger.
00:22:25Ugly as heck right now.
00:22:27Well, it's big.
00:22:29It's big.
00:22:30Big means more work.
00:22:31We got a lot of work to do.
00:22:34We've got this.
00:22:35We've got this.
00:22:36We've got this.
00:22:38So what do you think
00:22:39of the living room?
00:22:40I like that the fireplace
00:22:41is centered.
00:22:42The fireplace is a little beat up.
00:22:45Hello.
00:22:45Hello.
00:22:47Okay, the living room,
00:22:48the first challenge.
00:22:50First challenge.
00:22:50I know.
00:22:51It's not huge.
00:22:52Yeah.
00:22:53We were thinking really tall
00:22:54built-ins on both sides,
00:22:55like lots of cozy books
00:22:56and like a big coffee table here.
00:22:58It's got to function
00:22:59as coffee table store,
00:23:01like anything that we put in here
00:23:02because it's kind of small.
00:23:03Yeah.
00:23:04So I think the pieces
00:23:05almost have to be multifunctional
00:23:07where they can either
00:23:08pull out and be a bed.
00:23:09That's the other thing.
00:23:10How do you raise the rental rate?
00:23:11You increase heads and beds.
00:23:13Maybe we could put Murphy beds
00:23:15on either side of the fireplace.
00:23:17Yeah, I like that.
00:23:17We have to think about
00:23:18what's going to be photo-worthy
00:23:20when people are online
00:23:22looking for their vacation rental.
00:23:23Like what's going to make them stop
00:23:25and go, this is different?
00:23:27We like Mika's idea
00:23:28of adding twin Murphy beds
00:23:29on either side of the fireplace.
00:23:31It could be a great way
00:23:32of increasing rental value
00:23:33by sleeping a few more guests.
00:23:35For the design,
00:23:36we're leading towards
00:23:36a boutique tropical retreat.
00:23:38So we're thinking
00:23:39maybe a beachy wallpaper
00:23:40or accent wall.
00:23:41Elevating the fireplace
00:23:42with a new marble
00:23:43or rustic wood mantle.
00:23:45Other wood accents
00:23:46like a coffee table
00:23:47and a statement light fixture
00:23:48should help tie everything together.
00:23:49One challenge
00:23:50is the lack of beach access.
00:23:52So we're thinking
00:23:53of replacing a window
00:23:54with a sliding door
00:23:55to improve indoor-outdoor flow.
00:23:56We know the slider
00:23:57could take up
00:23:58a good portion of the budget
00:23:59but we're thinking
00:24:00there's a way to make it all work
00:24:01somewhere in the range
00:24:02of $14,000.
00:24:03We know if we execute
00:24:05what we have in our brains
00:24:06and we just work really hard,
00:24:08we know we're going to
00:24:09put out a good product
00:24:10and hopefully win.
00:24:11Do you like
00:24:12very sophisticated,
00:24:14very relaxed beach style?
00:24:16I'm thinking lighter colors.
00:24:18I want it to be calming.
00:24:19Everyone can put a head in a bed
00:24:21but how do we create
00:24:22an experience that's worthy
00:24:23of that much more
00:24:24of a rental rate per night?
00:24:26Who's your client?
00:24:27Who are you trying to rent to?
00:24:28Possibly two families
00:24:30that can share this space.
00:24:31Okay, so we're going to commit
00:24:32right now
00:24:33that we are doing
00:24:34a family-friendly rental.
00:24:35Yes.
00:24:35Okay?
00:24:36All right, so how are we
00:24:37going to make money?
00:24:38As far as adding value,
00:24:39this space is just empty
00:24:40so I don't know
00:24:41if it's part of the dining room
00:24:42or if it's part of the living room.
00:24:44If you potentially added
00:24:45another bedroom...
00:24:46I love...
00:24:49I love it.
00:24:51This would be a really dope
00:24:52primary being on the main level
00:24:53and going right out
00:24:54to the main beach.
00:24:56Yes, yes, yes.
00:24:58We want to take
00:24:58a big picture approach
00:25:00maximizing rental potential
00:25:01while appealing to families
00:25:03by adding a second primary bedroom
00:25:05on the main floor.
00:25:06We'll have to frame a new wall
00:25:07to create a bedroom
00:25:09while keeping enough space
00:25:10for a living area.
00:25:11For design,
00:25:12we're thinking something
00:25:13like a transitional
00:25:14oceanfront resort.
00:25:16Clean lines
00:25:16and neutral colors.
00:25:18We're hoping to add
00:25:19a light fixture
00:25:20and a few other features
00:25:22that will enhance
00:25:22a longer stay.
00:25:23With a budget
00:25:24of around $19,000,
00:25:26this transformation
00:25:27will maximize functionality
00:25:28and create a memorable
00:25:30high-demand rental.
00:25:31Adding value,
00:25:32adding bedrooms,
00:25:33that's what we need to do
00:25:34to win this competition.
00:25:35You have to stick
00:25:36to that budget.
00:25:36Okay?
00:25:37Okay.
00:25:37I like who we're going.
00:25:38I'm saying that to myself too
00:25:39because I'm really bad
00:25:40with budgets.
00:25:42What are you thinking?
00:25:44We're debating on
00:25:45if we need to get rid
00:25:45of this window.
00:25:46so that we can do built-ins
00:25:48even a little more symmetric.
00:25:49I mean,
00:25:50you're not necessarily
00:25:50getting huge ocean views
00:25:51this direction.
00:25:52I understand what you're saying,
00:25:53but maybe this
00:25:54becomes your build-out.
00:25:56I think combination
00:25:57towards there,
00:25:57I think also could work.
00:25:59Not what I was thinking,
00:26:00but we'll come back.
00:26:01But you don't have to,
00:26:03but I totally want
00:26:04to be looking this way.
00:26:06Yes, this way.
00:26:06Yes.
00:26:07Oh, true.
00:26:08Do we build build-outs
00:26:09and the couch goes
00:26:11in between it?
00:26:12That way you keep
00:26:13your view and your sofa
00:26:14still looking that direction.
00:26:15It's the only wall
00:26:16you have in the living room.
00:26:17What else could happen there
00:26:19that could add some life?
00:26:20Well, I want wood somewhere.
00:26:22I want it to feel
00:26:23warm and welcoming.
00:26:24Okay.
00:26:25I'm open to other options.
00:26:26I'm not opposed to that.
00:26:27Mm-hmm.
00:26:29I have an idea.
00:26:31So where are the kitchens at?
00:26:32What if we had, like,
00:26:33a drop area
00:26:34for all your beach stuff
00:26:35and made this more
00:26:36of an entryway?
00:26:40See, we are so different
00:26:42on our thoughts.
00:26:44I mean, what would you put there
00:26:45that might add
00:26:46to the value of the house?
00:26:47If we're...
00:26:47Are we both on the same...
00:26:49Are we not?
00:26:49I don't know.
00:26:50I know we were.
00:26:51We were talking about that.
00:26:52Tyce and my style
00:26:54isn't necessarily the same.
00:26:55I feel like him and my mom
00:26:56will get along more
00:26:57on their design styles.
00:26:59Can you explain, like,
00:27:00what the entry vision you have?
00:27:02Just what do you see when you...
00:27:04I just know
00:27:04when you're at the beach,
00:27:05you got a lot of beach gear,
00:27:06you got a lot of...
00:27:07Things you want to drop.
00:27:09I will agree.
00:27:09That...
00:27:10I will agree with you.
00:27:11That entry over there
00:27:13is what you're saying.
00:27:13So make it like a bench
00:27:14where you can sit down...
00:27:15I feel like I need to take five.
00:27:16Sorry.
00:27:17Uh-oh.
00:27:20Is it me?
00:27:20No, it's me.
00:27:25I just feel like
00:27:27they're connecting
00:27:27on all their ideas.
00:27:29Like, why am I here?
00:27:30Like, I just want to feel
00:27:31like I'm part of the team
00:27:33and, like, everything I say.
00:27:34I just feel like they...
00:27:35Like, my mom and my style
00:27:37is just so different
00:27:38and I don't want to feel
00:27:39like I'm not being seen.
00:27:44Before this,
00:27:44we talked about stuff
00:27:46and I felt like
00:27:48she heard me.
00:27:49Like, I felt like
00:27:50we were going to, like,
00:27:53take some of my ideas
00:27:54and I honestly felt like
00:27:55she loved my ideas
00:27:56and then, like,
00:27:57we get here
00:27:58and it feels like
00:27:59that's, like,
00:27:59kind of thrown out
00:28:00the window a little bit.
00:28:02Sometimes I just feel like
00:28:03she doesn't see me
00:28:05or hear me.
00:28:09I wanted to hear your thoughts.
00:28:11Yeah, I just...
00:28:12In general,
00:28:13I feel like I'm just
00:28:14maybe a little bit different
00:28:16in, like,
00:28:17what I envision
00:28:18the house for
00:28:19or, like,
00:28:20my style
00:28:20and stuff like that
00:28:21and I just felt like
00:28:22it was, like,
00:28:23the fireplace,
00:28:23it was the built-ins,
00:28:24it was the wall,
00:28:25the wood.
00:28:27I just wasn't necessarily
00:28:28in agreement
00:28:29on all of them
00:28:30and I just felt like
00:28:31I didn't want to say
00:28:31my opinion
00:28:32because it was different
00:28:33and I felt like...
00:28:33Here's what you need
00:28:34to understand.
00:28:34We're almost retired
00:28:36which means
00:28:36we have no future.
00:28:39We need your input
00:28:40more than anything.
00:28:42I just don't know
00:28:43if I want wood
00:28:44on that wall.
00:28:47Then you don't have
00:28:48to have wood
00:28:49on that wall.
00:28:50I just don't want
00:28:51to say stuff
00:28:52because then I feel,
00:28:53like, embarrassed
00:28:54when...
00:28:54Well, my mom
00:28:55sometimes tells me
00:28:57I don't know about that
00:28:58and then, like,
00:28:59I shouldn't have said anything
00:29:00now I'm embarrassed.
00:29:03I think that's
00:29:04part of the design process.
00:29:05It's such a struggle.
00:29:07There's going to be
00:29:07some pressure.
00:29:08This is not the only time
00:29:09you're going to have
00:29:09a breakdown.
00:29:10Trust me.
00:29:12Clearly.
00:29:13Day one.
00:29:15Didn't think it would
00:29:15happen this early,
00:29:16but...
00:29:16Room one!
00:29:18I do feel like
00:29:19he heard me
00:29:20and he saw me
00:29:20and he was like,
00:29:22you have it too.
00:29:24You know,
00:29:24a lot of people
00:29:25don't realize
00:29:25the emotion
00:29:26that design brings on.
00:29:28We have very similar
00:29:29qualities of just kind of,
00:29:30like, poking at each other
00:29:31and then all of a sudden
00:29:32it will be, like,
00:29:33a break.
00:29:35So I'm a little scared
00:29:36for that.
00:29:36I'm going to say
00:29:37my one tidbit.
00:29:38Yeah, what would you like?
00:29:39At two cents.
00:29:40My mind goes to
00:29:42the fireplace
00:29:43being the center
00:29:45of attention.
00:29:46Okay.
00:29:46And not necessarily
00:29:47having to do
00:29:48something
00:29:51huge over here.
00:29:52Something to fill up
00:29:53the space
00:29:54without necessarily
00:29:55having to spend
00:29:56more money.
00:29:57That's a good idea.
00:29:58We're bringing
00:29:59our ideas together
00:30:00and putting the focus
00:30:01where it belongs,
00:30:02on the fireplace.
00:30:03By reimagining it
00:30:05with added texture,
00:30:06we can turn it
00:30:06into a true focal point
00:30:08that leans into
00:30:09a coastal cottage theme.
00:30:10Then, we'll build
00:30:11around it
00:30:12with functional updates
00:30:13that add style
00:30:14and help the space
00:30:15work a whole lot better.
00:30:16Overall,
00:30:17we're looking to
00:30:18elevate the space
00:30:19with warm, organic textures
00:30:20paired with wood beams
00:30:22that tie back
00:30:22to the mantle.
00:30:23To finish it off,
00:30:24we're thinking lighter
00:30:25furniture for better flow,
00:30:27along with a gallery wall
00:30:28to tie together
00:30:29that coastal cottage vibe.
00:30:30In the entryway,
00:30:31we're planning a big change
00:30:33by removing the second fridge
00:30:34and cramped pantry
00:30:35and converting that area
00:30:37into a drop zone,
00:30:38giving guests a space
00:30:39to kick off sandals
00:30:40and hang towels
00:30:41when returning
00:30:42from the beach.
00:30:43With these updates,
00:30:44we feel like we can transform
00:30:45this once cluttered
00:30:46living area,
00:30:47all while staying somewhere
00:30:48around a budget
00:30:49of $11,000.
00:30:51All right.
00:30:52Do we feel good
00:30:52about a plan here?
00:30:53Yes.
00:30:53Yes.
00:30:54Okay.
00:30:54Yes.
00:30:54All right.
00:30:55I knew the mother-daughter relationship
00:30:57wasn't going to be easy,
00:30:58but I didn't expect her
00:30:59to be an emotional breakdown
00:31:00day one.
00:31:02All right.
00:31:02Bye, guys.
00:31:03Goodbye.
00:31:04This is going to be interesting.
00:31:09Oh, man.
00:31:11It's feeling big in here now.
00:31:12Welcome.
00:31:14Okay.
00:31:14So, step one.
00:31:16We want to redo the mat
00:31:17so we can get rid
00:31:18of all that, right?
00:31:18Dope.
00:31:19We might save the stone
00:31:20to use it somewhere else
00:31:21because it's not bad.
00:31:22I don't know.
00:31:22A DIY project.
00:31:23I love a DIY
00:31:24because guess what?
00:31:25DIY usually means
00:31:26we're saving money.
00:31:28Normally,
00:31:29Josiah is the main demoer
00:31:31and I'm the baby watcher,
00:31:32but today I got in there.
00:31:33I got it done.
00:31:35Oh, look at that.
00:31:36I felt like it wiggled out.
00:31:37It was like a loose tooth.
00:31:39This is in great shape.
00:31:40Yeah.
00:31:40So, yeah,
00:31:41maybe a floating shelf
00:31:42in the bathroom.
00:31:43Almost.
00:31:44Oh!
00:31:45Not as gentle
00:31:46as the first one.
00:31:47Okay, we can still use it.
00:31:49Okay.
00:31:49Oh, my gosh.
00:31:50And you saved it
00:31:51into one piece.
00:31:52We're going to need headboards.
00:31:53We're going to need
00:31:53all kinds of stuff.
00:31:55Gosh, the fireplace
00:31:56already looks better.
00:31:57Yeah, that's exciting.
00:31:58But the bad news is
00:31:59it is broken.
00:32:00We just found that out.
00:32:01So, we need to maybe
00:32:03do an electric insert
00:32:05or...
00:32:05Yikes.
00:32:09Let's just get it out of here.
00:32:11Get a good pull.
00:32:11This is awesome.
00:32:13Look at that.
00:32:14Ugh.
00:32:14Ready?
00:32:15One, two, three.
00:32:20Go up.
00:32:20We don't have much
00:32:22demo to do,
00:32:23so we're going to get
00:32:23started right away
00:32:24on framing and drywalling
00:32:26our new primary bedroom.
00:32:35You guys are already
00:32:36getting started.
00:32:38I'm late to the party.
00:32:39Demo-ing is our thing.
00:32:41Yeah, she's a beast
00:32:42and I kind of just
00:32:43let her go at it.
00:32:44She just...
00:32:45Living our best life.
00:32:47You're a beast.
00:32:56There we go.
00:32:57Clean work environment
00:32:58is an efficient work
00:32:59environment.
00:33:00You're not my cleaning.
00:33:01No, I actually enjoy
00:33:02the cleaning.
00:33:03I let you have that
00:33:04and I'm like,
00:33:05I'll just clean up
00:33:06after you.
00:33:06I don't mind.
00:33:07You're going faster
00:33:08than I can even
00:33:09throw it away.
00:33:10Here's one more.
00:33:11Stick to what you're good at.
00:33:12I'll stick to what
00:33:13I'm good at.
00:33:15Sydney, Michelle,
00:33:16come here really quick.
00:33:18Elephant in the room.
00:33:20There is a leak
00:33:21which we cannot have
00:33:23if we're going to do
00:33:24an electric fireplace.
00:33:26So, brace yourself
00:33:27for probably a $500
00:33:30or more quote
00:33:32to get the leak fixed.
00:33:35We've already committed
00:33:37to making the fireplace
00:33:37the focal point of this room
00:33:39and there's no time to pivot.
00:33:40So, unfortunately,
00:33:41our best option
00:33:42is just to pay for the fix.
00:33:44Little extra out of budget
00:33:45that we were not factoring.
00:33:46They're just going to be
00:33:47putting, like, a cap
00:33:48and sealing it
00:33:49so that nothing more happens.
00:33:52This really sucks,
00:33:53but we can make it beautiful now.
00:33:56We can start the beauty.
00:33:57Okay.
00:33:58We just got to figure it out quick.
00:33:59Okay.
00:34:00Yeah, I know.
00:34:01Yeah.
00:34:06You're so excited
00:34:07to get this build ready.
00:34:08Yeah, come on now.
00:34:09Hover up now.
00:34:11Don't hit me with the wood.
00:34:12Don't rush.
00:34:13Be careful.
00:34:14We're planning an elaborate
00:34:16DIY design for our staircase
00:34:18and hallway
00:34:18using interconnected wood trim.
00:34:20Today, we need to cut
00:34:22all of our wood
00:34:22into specific pieces
00:34:24so it fits together
00:34:25like a puzzle.
00:34:29Push again.
00:34:33Don't lift it up.
00:34:34I'm not.
00:34:35I'm pushing it.
00:34:37So, listen, real quick,
00:34:39because we're going to make it wobbly.
00:34:40Keep pushing it against
00:34:42this right here.
00:34:43Don't lift it
00:34:44because you're going to make
00:34:45the blade jump.
00:34:48I'm feeling a lot of pressure
00:34:49because realistically,
00:34:51I'm a great, great craftsman,
00:34:53but I can't fully give
00:34:55my full potential
00:34:56only because of some
00:34:57of the constraints.
00:34:58There's no time for that.
00:35:00You're lifting it.
00:35:01I'm pushing it.
00:35:03I'm pushing it.
00:35:04Listen, just keep
00:35:06pushing it against this.
00:35:08This one is wobbly
00:35:09because you are in control.
00:35:11How about you push
00:35:12and I hold this part
00:35:13so you can see
00:35:14how easy it is.
00:35:15Yep.
00:35:18She's a good teacher.
00:35:19Just when it comes to me,
00:35:21no.
00:35:28Come on, bro.
00:35:31Oh, my God, bro.
00:35:35I put a lot of pressure
00:35:36on other people
00:35:37because I kind of want
00:35:38people to read my minds,
00:35:40but nobody can read minds.
00:35:41I'm learning I do not
00:35:42do good under pressure.
00:35:43So can we just communicate
00:35:45for a second?
00:35:46Do you see when I was pushing it
00:35:48because it has the bend,
00:35:49you got to put a little
00:35:49light pressure on it.
00:35:50I just do it.
00:35:51I just, I don't know
00:35:52how to teach you, I guess.
00:35:53It don't matter.
00:35:54I'm just tired
00:35:54of how you communicate.
00:35:56He don't want to be embarrassed
00:35:57because he don't,
00:35:58because I know how to do that
00:35:58and he don't.
00:36:00Leave me alone.
00:36:03Bro, 15 seconds.
00:36:05I'm asking you
00:36:06to leave me alone, yo.
00:36:07You're not.
00:36:08Leave me alone.
00:36:13I'm going to take my mind
00:36:14off of all this
00:36:15so I can create.
00:36:17This is what is necessary
00:36:20so we can win this.
00:36:21Having the blue
00:36:23is helpful for me
00:36:25to see the design
00:36:27I'm trying to achieve.
00:36:30Honestly, did not expect
00:36:33me and my husband
00:36:34to have that
00:36:34little bull out
00:36:36of a fight.
00:36:37I really hope
00:36:38I didn't disrespect him
00:36:39to say anything
00:36:40that was hurtful.
00:36:42There's a lot of pressure
00:36:43having to do so much
00:36:44in so little time
00:36:45but it's just, you know,
00:36:48it's frustrating.
00:36:50I will apologize
00:36:51and move on
00:36:52because we have
00:36:53a common goal
00:36:54which is to win
00:36:55this competition
00:36:56and that is what's
00:36:57going to happen.
00:36:59Today our fireplace
00:37:00is being capped
00:37:01and my mom and I
00:37:02are inside
00:37:03nailing up
00:37:04some shiplap panels
00:37:05on the wall
00:37:06and also the ceiling.
00:37:08I've got it!
00:37:10The paneling
00:37:10that we're using
00:37:11is supposed to look
00:37:12like shiplap.
00:37:14Shiplap.
00:37:14Original shiplap.
00:37:16You could not afford
00:37:17original shiplap
00:37:18so this is the next
00:37:19best thing.
00:37:20Ah!
00:37:21It's coming down!
00:37:21I was afraid
00:37:22that those brads
00:37:23aren't going to hold
00:37:23this shiplap.
00:37:24The ceiling
00:37:25is a little bit trickier.
00:37:26Brad nails
00:37:27are just not enough
00:37:28for it to hang on to
00:37:30and we can't do screws
00:37:31because screws
00:37:32aren't going to look good.
00:37:34We can return
00:37:35the panels
00:37:36that we have.
00:37:37I think
00:37:38it's going to work.
00:37:39I'm just worried
00:37:40about it hanging
00:37:40and warbling.
00:37:42If you are so sure
00:37:43this is going to work
00:37:44why don't you two
00:37:45put it up
00:37:45and I am just going
00:37:46to sit over here
00:37:47in the chair
00:37:47and watch.
00:37:51Right there
00:37:51yep
00:37:51you're good.
00:37:54Nope
00:37:54too far
00:37:55right there
00:37:58didn't fall
00:37:59yet.
00:38:01They needed
00:38:01to prove
00:38:02that they were
00:38:02right
00:38:03and I was wrong.
00:38:04And we are.
00:38:13So the plan
00:38:14for the living room
00:38:15has changed
00:38:15a few times.
00:38:16And we talked
00:38:17about potentially
00:38:18doing a Murphy bed
00:38:19and that's what
00:38:19Mika was suggesting.
00:38:21We scratched that.
00:38:23With the window
00:38:23right here
00:38:24it's a little tight
00:38:25so we thought
00:38:25we're just going
00:38:26to pivot
00:38:26to floating shelves
00:38:27and that would
00:38:28be a good alternative.
00:38:29This is a good plan
00:38:30we'll have to tell
00:38:30Mika.
00:38:31Hopefully she's
00:38:31not too mad.
00:38:32She was really
00:38:33set on that.
00:38:33I know
00:38:34I think she'll
00:38:34understand
00:38:35with just
00:38:35you know
00:38:36window
00:38:36doesn't really
00:38:37function too well.
00:38:39She didn't actually
00:38:40measure for this space
00:38:41so she's just
00:38:42like looking at
00:38:43it first hand.
00:38:44I do think
00:38:45when she walks in
00:38:45she's going to have
00:38:46like a
00:38:47what happened
00:38:48to my Murphy bed
00:38:49I feel a little sad.
00:38:51Hopefully she doesn't
00:38:51take it personally.
00:38:53No turning back now.
00:38:54We're doing it.
00:39:00Time is ticking
00:39:01so we really need
00:39:02to finish putting up
00:39:03the wood slates
00:39:04on our custom staircase design.
00:39:08I would say
00:39:09that the time
00:39:09is getting
00:39:10to her more.
00:39:12I can see
00:39:12the frustration
00:39:13building
00:39:13because she knows
00:39:14time is against us.
00:39:16The first week
00:39:16and we're already
00:39:17fighting
00:39:17there's so much
00:39:18more competition
00:39:19that is still
00:39:19left to come.
00:39:21Honestly
00:39:21as long as
00:39:22we know
00:39:23the final goal
00:39:24and that we
00:39:25stay focused
00:39:26for that
00:39:27I think we'll be good.
00:39:28I really do.
00:39:29I think we're
00:39:30going to still bump heads
00:39:31though.
00:39:31But I think
00:39:32we'll come together.
00:39:33We got the bad apples
00:39:34out of the way.
00:39:36We got a notification
00:39:38our flooring
00:39:38was delivered.
00:39:40Flooring was outside
00:39:41I immediately
00:39:42ran downstairs.
00:39:43We was just trying
00:39:44to get a little
00:39:44peek inside.
00:39:45Hey!
00:39:46What are you doing?
00:39:49Is this y'all?
00:39:51It's at our house.
00:39:52Ours was supposed
00:39:52to come in
00:39:53today too.
00:39:54This is ours.
00:39:55Somebody's already
00:39:56trying to peep.
00:39:58Well let me see.
00:39:58Hold on.
00:39:59Thanks for the assistance.
00:40:01Yeah, right?
00:40:01We'll go see.
00:40:02We'll go see.
00:40:03What?
00:40:04What?
00:40:04Michelle!
00:40:05This is not for her.
00:40:07Get out of the truck!
00:40:08That lady crazy.
00:40:09Yeah, 748.
00:40:12But you don't know
00:40:14the color.
00:40:14Color number 324.
00:40:16That's all we got?
00:40:16Number 324.
00:40:18Alright, I'm going to
00:40:19look theirs up for real.
00:40:20White glove delivery.
00:40:21A little hair start.
00:40:23Let's see
00:40:24if the color
00:40:25is as
00:40:26we wanted.
00:40:28Woo!
00:40:29These are gorgeous.
00:40:38This flooring is taking
00:40:40way too long.
00:40:42Babe, I need you
00:40:44to come here, please.
00:40:46I really need to finish
00:40:48our staircase project.
00:40:50I just need you
00:40:51to take over
00:40:52if you can
00:40:53have some
00:40:54shorter starters,
00:40:56some longer starters.
00:40:57Break it up.
00:40:58That'll be the best way
00:40:59to try to keep
00:41:00this pattern
00:41:01not so brick layout
00:41:02and more of a flow.
00:41:04I've been doing
00:41:05renovations for
00:41:06three years.
00:41:07She's been doing it
00:41:07for about eight years.
00:41:08So, I want to have her
00:41:10trust me on job sites
00:41:11where she's not around.
00:41:12I know
00:41:13what she expects.
00:41:15So, I'm just trying
00:41:16to show her that
00:41:17I pay attention.
00:41:19Being able to take over
00:41:20something that she
00:41:22is really good at
00:41:23just kind of shows
00:41:24that she trusts
00:41:25my judgment.
00:41:32Babe, I need your help
00:41:34because I'm not
00:41:34going to be able
00:41:35to reach this.
00:41:35Ready?
00:41:39Boom.
00:41:40All right.
00:41:40All right.
00:41:41I'll try not to
00:41:41make the design
00:41:42too crazy
00:41:43but you still
00:41:44got to get all that.
00:41:48Even though
00:41:49all of these angles
00:41:50have been
00:41:50really complicated
00:41:51I am so excited
00:41:53for how this
00:41:53is starting to look.
00:41:55I know
00:41:55I had to
00:41:56you know
00:41:57sorry
00:41:57go into
00:41:58more of the budget
00:41:59for it to happen
00:42:00but please
00:42:01believe me
00:42:02when I say
00:42:03that that was
00:42:03a good idea.
00:42:05It's definitely
00:42:06time consuming.
00:42:06Oh yeah, for sure.
00:42:07We definitely
00:42:08got to finish
00:42:08today
00:42:10because we got
00:42:10to move on
00:42:11to other projects.
00:42:12Yeah, just trust me
00:42:13it's going to be worth it.
00:42:14This is setting
00:42:15the bar real high.
00:42:16They don't even
00:42:17know what we got
00:42:17in store.
00:42:18They don't even
00:42:18know what we got
00:42:19in store.
00:42:23Today we're
00:42:23standing down
00:42:24the popcorn ceilings
00:42:25and painting
00:42:26in our living room.
00:42:27Oh my gosh
00:42:28work has started.
00:42:30Yeah, what you think?
00:42:32As soon as I walked in
00:42:33it was like boom
00:42:34this is where
00:42:34my attention was drawn.
00:42:36We will have
00:42:36a reclaimed mantle
00:42:38here which is
00:42:39going to be
00:42:39really cool.
00:42:40We kind of
00:42:41brainstormed
00:42:42some initial ideas
00:42:43so I'm curious
00:42:45has anything pivoted?
00:42:47Yes, what do you think?
00:42:48One thing I am seeing
00:42:50is some changes
00:42:51to our original game plan.
00:42:53The floating shelves
00:42:54are kind of anchored here.
00:42:55Where are my Murphy beds?
00:43:01So we really liked
00:43:02your idea
00:43:03but functionally
00:43:04we weren't sure
00:43:05if it's going to work.
00:43:06I just want to make sure
00:43:07throughout the house
00:43:08that we have those
00:43:08like wow moments
00:43:09that are going to be
00:43:10kind of surprises
00:43:10for the judge
00:43:11because I think
00:43:11that's what's going
00:43:12to make it memorable.
00:43:13So we didn't get
00:43:14the twin beds
00:43:14that's okay.
00:43:15What about the access
00:43:16to this deck
00:43:17from this living room?
00:43:18It's going right here.
00:43:19Yes!
00:43:20This whole window
00:43:22will be a giant slider.
00:43:24We're excited!
00:43:24I love that.
00:43:25Okay, yeah.
00:43:26But there's more.
00:43:27It's not just the living room
00:43:28for this challenge.
00:43:29It's also the entry
00:43:30and the stairs.
00:43:32On the stairs
00:43:33we'll add some character
00:43:34with a creative design treatment
00:43:35and an updated railing detail.
00:43:38In a vacation rental
00:43:39convenience goes a long way
00:43:40so we want to use
00:43:41the landing
00:43:41at the top of the stairs
00:43:42to create a functional spot
00:43:44for a few everyday essentials.
00:43:46Taking it to the next level.
00:43:48Literally.
00:43:48Remember this guy?
00:43:49So chunky.
00:43:51Yeah.
00:43:51We don't love it
00:43:52but we have a solution maybe.
00:43:54We found these little windows
00:43:56at a salvage yard.
00:43:58The thought is
00:43:59we find where the walls framed out
00:44:01and they go kind of in the cavities.
00:44:04So we have a little light
00:44:05just to give it some character
00:44:06because this is so boring.
00:44:08Yeah.
00:44:09But if the studs are too close together
00:44:10this won't work.
00:44:11I love it.
00:44:12So we need to make sure
00:44:13we can even do it
00:44:14which means demo.
00:44:15Fingers crossed!
00:44:16Alright, let's get some tools.
00:44:22Easy.
00:44:24Easy.
00:44:26That's good.
00:44:28Oh yeah.
00:44:29We have plenty of room.
00:44:30So this is a really cool pivot
00:44:32you guys.
00:44:33This is like touching
00:44:34every spot of the house
00:44:35so that it tells a story
00:44:36on every level.
00:44:37So putting design elements
00:44:39and character
00:44:39in every single space
00:44:41is probably what it's
00:44:43going to take to win.
00:44:44However, we are restricted
00:44:46on how much time we have.
00:44:48The worst thing would be
00:44:49you have all these ideas
00:44:50you started
00:44:51and you're not done
00:44:52before the judges arrive.
00:44:54Kind of scary.
00:44:55This is a good find.
00:44:56As long as we have time
00:44:57to finish it.
00:45:03Hello, hello.
00:45:04What's going on?
00:45:05We are trying to get these in
00:45:08as fast as we can.
00:45:10We're halfway through
00:45:11the first week here
00:45:12and concerns are mounting.
00:45:15Real world check-in time.
00:45:17How are you two feeling?
00:45:19We're trying to, you know,
00:45:21just be there for support
00:45:22for one another.
00:45:23The days have been
00:45:25getting the best of us.
00:45:26We just try to block out
00:45:28all of the, you know,
00:45:29negativity or anything
00:45:31that's just kind of stirring up
00:45:32and just kind of keep
00:45:33moving forward.
00:45:34Ask for help in the areas
00:45:36that you needed.
00:45:37You both can't do it all.
00:45:38I know, but the numbers
00:45:40be killing me.
00:45:42The budget.
00:45:43I can't.
00:45:44I know, that budget is...
00:45:45I literally think
00:45:45I can do it all,
00:45:46but with the time,
00:45:47I can't.
00:45:48You can't.
00:45:48I don't want to just
00:45:50subcontract people
00:45:51because we need to
00:45:52spread that money out
00:45:53so that we can bring
00:45:54home the win.
00:45:55You guys are going
00:45:56to get burnt out.
00:45:57This is week one
00:45:58and you're going to be
00:45:59in the final week
00:46:00and you're going to have
00:46:01nothing.
00:46:01You're going to be
00:46:01exhausted.
00:46:02You're going to be
00:46:03beyond worn out.
00:46:04You're going to be
00:46:04arguing with each other
00:46:05and you're going to be
00:46:06really feeling the stress
00:46:08of making this
00:46:09and getting across the finish.
00:46:10So you can't do that
00:46:10to yourselves.
00:46:11Does that make sense?
00:46:12Yeah, it makes sense.
00:46:13Yes, that does.
00:46:14I know you've also
00:46:15been working on the stairs.
00:46:16Yes.
00:46:16As well.
00:46:19Oh, you guys
00:46:20have been busy.
00:46:22There's a huge scope
00:46:23of work.
00:46:23We have to be very
00:46:25mindful of not getting
00:46:27sucked into some
00:46:28of these projects
00:46:29that are eating up
00:46:31the overall time
00:46:32that we have here.
00:46:33So it's like
00:46:34a freestyle abstract.
00:46:35Sorry, no one over here.
00:46:37I think this is gorgeous,
00:46:39but by the time
00:46:39this is done,
00:46:40how many hours
00:46:41are you going to have
00:46:42committed to this?
00:46:44A day.
00:46:45A full day's worth
00:46:46of work.
00:46:46And do you think
00:46:47that value is going
00:46:48to be there?
00:46:48I believe the wow factor
00:46:50will definitely create
00:46:52the value that is there,
00:46:53yes.
00:46:53But we are not doing
00:46:54this again anywhere else
00:46:56because this was
00:46:57time consuming.
00:46:58Because this is a day,
00:46:59like a whole day.
00:47:01We don't want to have
00:47:02Sarah pulling the hair
00:47:03out.
00:47:03I already am,
00:47:05you two,
00:47:05and this is the first
00:47:06week.
00:47:07Angelina and Stephen
00:47:08have a concrete idea
00:47:09of where they want
00:47:10this house to go.
00:47:11You two are killing me
00:47:13here.
00:47:14I really feel
00:47:15responsible to kind
00:47:16of not allow them
00:47:17to get just preoccupied
00:47:20with all of the
00:47:21wonderful things
00:47:22they'd love to add
00:47:22on to the space.
00:47:24I understand this
00:47:25is your vision
00:47:25and you love it
00:47:26and I will be here
00:47:27to support it.
00:47:27I just don't want
00:47:28it to be the downfall
00:47:30of this entire week
00:47:31because the big things
00:47:32didn't get finished.
00:47:33Understood.
00:47:40Our living room
00:47:41is coming together
00:47:42so now it's time
00:47:43to refresh the stairs
00:47:44and landing
00:47:44with updated wallpaper,
00:47:46new lighting,
00:47:47and transom windows
00:47:48that bring in
00:47:48more natural light.
00:47:52All right!
00:47:54You like our fireplace?
00:47:55Well, I like the fact
00:47:56that the old one's gone.
00:47:57Yeah!
00:47:57I was expecting
00:47:59to see more done.
00:48:00We have a fireplace
00:48:03still, which is great.
00:48:05But we've got
00:48:06a long way to go.
00:48:07So what's the plan?
00:48:08We've got a new
00:48:09working one coming in.
00:48:10Electric, yep.
00:48:11Okay, I love it.
00:48:12We're going to still
00:48:12do the mantel?
00:48:13Yep.
00:48:13We got some brick here.
00:48:15You didn't get
00:48:16any backup plan B, right?
00:48:18Like tile of any kind?
00:48:19Okay, so it's brick
00:48:20or nothing.
00:48:21It's brick.
00:48:22I can feel your hesitation.
00:48:24Yeah.
00:48:25Like, this is going
00:48:26to be a challenge.
00:48:27You know that, right?
00:48:27Yeah.
00:48:28My whole kitchen
00:48:29has brick floors.
00:48:30Floors work really well
00:48:31because of the gravity.
00:48:33Getting this kid here
00:48:34is a whole different story.
00:48:35Did you ever decide
00:48:36on what the color
00:48:37of the walls are going
00:48:37to be?
00:48:38White walls
00:48:38and an accent trim,
00:48:40like a sage green.
00:48:41So you're going to do
00:48:42green trim on white walls?
00:48:44Yeah.
00:48:45That means even
00:48:46the trim on the windows
00:48:47is going to go green.
00:48:48Yep.
00:48:49Just the outer portion.
00:48:50The outer portion.
00:48:50Have you seen a picture
00:48:52of something like that
00:48:53that works?
00:48:54Yep.
00:48:54I'd love to see
00:48:55that picture.
00:48:57I do love the ceiling.
00:48:58I'm guessing the beam
00:48:59is going to cover
00:49:00the gap though, right?
00:49:00Yep.
00:49:01Well, that looks great.
00:49:02You got Wayne scouting
00:49:03on the wall.
00:49:03That was a bit of a challenge.
00:49:04Yeah, nothing's level
00:49:05in houses like this.
00:49:06No.
00:49:07So you're still
00:49:08thinking gallery wall?
00:49:09Yeah, we've got
00:49:09a whole bunch of frames
00:49:10coming to kind of fill them in.
00:49:12I don't know if just
00:49:13like simple framed artwork
00:49:14is going to be enough
00:49:15to squate judges.
00:49:17I don't think that's
00:49:18going to make somebody
00:49:19go like,
00:49:19that's why I want
00:49:20to rent this place.
00:49:21I also want to talk
00:49:22about the entryway.
00:49:23You know, let's take a look.
00:49:25So there used to be
00:49:26a closet.
00:49:27Yep.
00:49:27We took that out.
00:49:30What's the plan here?
00:49:31It's kind of like
00:49:32a gallery wall.
00:49:34So this is going
00:49:34to be your gallery wall.
00:49:35Well, it's a different version.
00:49:37I found these fish.
00:49:38I'll show you
00:49:39a picture of them.
00:49:41Oh, okay.
00:49:42I love fish.
00:49:42Yeah.
00:49:43You got your grouper,
00:49:43your snapper.
00:49:44Yep.
00:49:44Yeah.
00:49:45And they're in just
00:49:46like a simple black
00:49:46matted frame.
00:49:47And then we're going to
00:49:49put like a fishing pole
00:49:50holder on the ceiling
00:49:52and put like six
00:49:54fishing poles.
00:49:56Okay.
00:49:58Um.
00:49:59Got bigger ideas.
00:50:01This screams,
00:50:02this is where I take
00:50:03off my stuff.
00:50:04I put my towel down.
00:50:05I like the idea
00:50:06of the old school fishing,
00:50:07but how about this?
00:50:09Like you could also use
00:50:10old fishing reels.
00:50:12You could turn those
00:50:12into hangers.
00:50:13Instead of it just being art,
00:50:15could it also be
00:50:15a little bit of function?
00:50:17That is a recipe
00:50:18for a disorganized
00:50:20hall room.
00:50:21I just don't like
00:50:22seeing everybody's coats.
00:50:25So here's the thing.
00:50:27I've seen this scenario
00:50:28play out.
00:50:29It's not adding anything
00:50:30structural to the,
00:50:31to the build.
00:50:32And I think whenever
00:50:33you just use art,
00:50:34you don't win
00:50:35because it's just art
00:50:36and anybody can put
00:50:37any kind of art
00:50:38they want up.
00:50:45This entrance is more
00:50:46important than I think
00:50:47we're putting emphasis on,
00:50:48but like it's the first
00:50:49thing people are going
00:50:50to see when they walk in.
00:50:51That's all I'm saying.
00:50:52We've already got
00:50:53the fireplace built in.
00:50:54We've already got
00:50:54the brick.
00:50:55We've got the ceiling.
00:50:56We've got the beams.
00:50:56We've got the transoms.
00:50:58We can't build
00:50:59any more stuff.
00:50:59I think we just have
00:51:00to stick with that
00:51:02unless...
00:51:02If we can stick
00:51:03some hooks here and there,
00:51:04we'll stick some hooks.
00:51:05Yeah.
00:51:05Okay.
00:51:06Artwork and cutesy things
00:51:07are great at people
00:51:09saying I love it,
00:51:10but it's not necessarily
00:51:11the same thing as saying
00:51:12this was a very smart move.
00:51:15This is why these guys won.
00:51:17I don't think that's
00:51:18going to make somebody
00:51:19go like that's why
00:51:21I want to rent this place.
00:51:22So what needs to be done
00:51:24and how soon can we do it?
00:51:25Right.
00:51:27You came to work today, right?
00:51:28Yeah.
00:51:29Let's do it.
00:51:38Today, we're building
00:51:39a coffee table
00:51:40out of salvaged materials
00:51:41while our sliding glass door
00:51:43is being installed.
00:51:44And we are adding
00:51:45a kitchenette
00:51:45on our landing,
00:51:46which I don't think
00:51:47any other team
00:51:48is doing that.
00:51:48Our cabinets
00:51:49and wine fridge
00:51:49have arrived
00:51:50and we're excited
00:51:51to show Mika.
00:51:52Is this a wine fr...
00:51:53Oh, yeah.
00:51:55You're speaking
00:51:56my language.
00:51:57I love this cabinetry.
00:51:59This is so nice.
00:52:01This is going to be
00:52:02a win for you guys.
00:52:04We're just thinking
00:52:04about the guests
00:52:05start to finish,
00:52:06what works
00:52:07and what doesn't work
00:52:08and try to do that
00:52:09in our design.
00:52:09I feel like this living room
00:52:11feels so much bigger.
00:52:13I know it wasn't cheap.
00:52:15This whole door
00:52:16costs about $8,000.
00:52:18This is going to pay off
00:52:19for sure.
00:52:20I really feel like
00:52:21you guys made the right
00:52:22decision with this investment.
00:52:24I love the symmetry
00:52:24of the floating shelves.
00:52:26Plus, a fireplace
00:52:27gives me cozy,
00:52:28quiet luxury.
00:52:29We are definitely
00:52:31going to make
00:52:32these other teams
00:52:32work very hard
00:52:33to try to beat us.
00:52:36We could not
00:52:38cap our fireplace.
00:52:40We had to pay $500.
00:52:41So we decided
00:52:42it's probably a good idea
00:52:44to do some thrifting.
00:52:46So we need a couch
00:52:47for the living room.
00:52:49I am not howling
00:52:51that upstairs.
00:52:52That's a sleeper.
00:52:53Oh, and no way.
00:52:55What about this couch?
00:52:57Not the cleanest
00:52:58of cleans.
00:52:59I've seen better days.
00:53:00I think we could
00:53:01get that to work.
00:53:02It's neutral enough.
00:53:03Hopefully the snakes
00:53:05come out.
00:53:06I know.
00:53:07I think it's $200.
00:53:08Yeah.
00:53:09We know what we were
00:53:10looking at for new ones.
00:53:11Yeah.
00:53:11The cheapest we could
00:53:12find was like $5.50.
00:53:14For something we'd order
00:53:16and don't know
00:53:16what it looks like.
00:53:17Gotta risk it
00:53:18for the biscuit.
00:53:20So provided
00:53:21our couch comes clean,
00:53:23we gotta haul.
00:53:24And if not,
00:53:25that's what they make
00:53:26throw blankets for.
00:53:34So adding a fireplace
00:53:35to our design
00:53:36was definitely
00:53:37a last minute decision,
00:53:39but it was necessary
00:53:40because our living room
00:53:42was lacking character.
00:53:44You go this way.
00:53:45Steven found
00:53:46a really great fireplace
00:53:48that was within the budget,
00:53:50and I decided
00:53:52to add some shiplap to it
00:53:54so that I can give it
00:53:55a little bit more design.
00:53:56It looks good, though.
00:53:58It does.
00:53:58It looks really good.
00:54:00It's such a big impact
00:54:01for so little money.
00:54:02We're wondering where else
00:54:03we could do something
00:54:04like this.
00:54:05Why don't we faux-create
00:54:07a little bit of detail,
00:54:08applied molding,
00:54:09with what we have on site
00:54:11because I do not want
00:54:12to spend any more
00:54:13of your budget.
00:54:13We have a ton of baseboards,
00:54:15so we're gonna cheat, cheat,
00:54:16cheat till the cows come home.
00:54:17We're gonna use this
00:54:19as a chair roll,
00:54:19then we have some detail.
00:54:21Deal.
00:54:21Okay.
00:54:22All right.
00:54:23I'm so glad
00:54:23we got to add
00:54:24some character
00:54:25to this room.
00:54:26because adding a bedroom
00:54:27was not enough
00:54:28to win this competition.
00:54:29We got to make this room,
00:54:31like, really stand out.
00:54:33And this is adding
00:54:33to the vision.
00:54:37Today, subcontractors
00:54:38are installing
00:54:38new quartzite
00:54:39around the fireplace.
00:54:40We are hanging
00:54:41our wallpaper,
00:54:42painting our staircase,
00:54:43and installing
00:54:43our rope handrail
00:54:44before we install
00:54:45the wood mantle.
00:54:46This is a beast.
00:54:49Bring it your way.
00:54:50Perfect.
00:54:50Okay.
00:54:51Send it.
00:54:58Can I step back
00:54:59and see how it looks?
00:55:00Okay.
00:55:01I like the little green
00:55:02paint on the end.
00:55:03It's got a new life.
00:55:04Yay!
00:55:09I still can't get over
00:55:10how amazingly lucky
00:55:12we got with these bricks.
00:55:14I know.
00:55:15That's incredible.
00:55:16Let's get a beam up
00:55:17and see what this looks like.
00:55:18This is going to really
00:55:20change the vibe, man.
00:55:21I love it.
00:55:22Good work, everybody.
00:55:27Well, this looks amazing.
00:55:28It does look amazing.
00:55:30I mean, really, really good.
00:55:31We might just have
00:55:32a winning living room.
00:55:33All right, let's stay at it.
00:55:36Hour and a half.
00:55:37We got to pull it all together.
00:55:38It's going to look good
00:55:39if we finish.
00:55:41It's time to bring in
00:55:43our judges
00:55:43from Hawaii, Tristan,
00:55:45and Kamahai Kalama.
00:55:47That is cool.
00:55:48I like that a lot.
00:55:50There aren't a lot
00:55:51of other features in here.
00:55:53Don't know if the decision
00:55:54you made here makes sense.
00:55:56Now for the twist.
00:55:58What?
00:55:59We're upping the ante.
00:56:06Hour and a half.
00:56:07We got to pull it all together.
00:56:08Hopefully, you've got
00:56:08your art ready to go
00:56:09that's going to go in here.
00:56:10Oh, yeah.
00:56:11Lots.
00:56:11We need to get this mantle up.
00:56:13Yep.
00:56:13And then...
00:56:15That puppy goes in.
00:56:16So we've got a lot going on
00:56:18with this race to finish.
00:56:19We've got curtains
00:56:20and rods to go up.
00:56:21We've got two gallery walls,
00:56:23two.
00:56:24We got to put the cover
00:56:25that goes on that thing.
00:56:27Did this go through
00:56:27a washing machine or something?
00:56:28You did.
00:56:29Skin tight.
00:56:31This is the crunch time
00:56:32right here.
00:56:33We have a bedroom,
00:56:34living room,
00:56:35and a landing.
00:56:36A lot of furniture to get up.
00:56:37I can start getting beds made,
00:56:38styling, all that,
00:56:39but let's get the big,
00:56:40heavy stuff up first.
00:56:41I'll finish wiping this down.
00:56:42We'll be ready.
00:56:43Yes, ma'am.
00:56:44We have no time,
00:56:46but we have so many projects
00:56:48that are unfinished.
00:56:49It is very fast and...
00:56:52Stressful.
00:56:52You guys did buy
00:56:53the biggest sofa known
00:56:54to mankind.
00:56:55The boys are bringing up
00:56:56the heavy sleeper sofa.
00:56:58There we go, boys.
00:57:00Perfect.
00:57:01Racing to the finish
00:57:02for this first week's challenge,
00:57:03it's all about divide and conquer.
00:57:05We have the living room space,
00:57:07we've got the staircase
00:57:08and the landing.
00:57:09We are trying to make sure
00:57:10that we use our time wisely
00:57:11so we can pull off a win.
00:57:13Big pieces coming in.
00:57:14It's huge.
00:57:22My word.
00:57:24Now we're talking.
00:57:25Why does yours look so frumpy?
00:57:32All right, let's try it.
00:57:33Slide it on.
00:57:35Looks hella good.
00:57:38I can't see.
00:57:40Touch up, aisle one.
00:57:41Touch up.
00:57:42Sarah's helping with placement.
00:57:44Steven's putting up the curtains.
00:57:45We're all dividing and conquering
00:57:47and making sure that all
00:57:48of these spaces
00:57:49are equally attended to.
00:57:51Oh my gosh,
00:57:51this is the last thing
00:57:52I want to be doing
00:57:52is painting on the day of safety.
00:57:55I do not want the judges
00:57:56to point it out.
00:57:59Okay.
00:58:00Wiping down the surface areas here.
00:58:02This kitchenette
00:58:03was such a good idea.
00:58:06All three of us
00:58:07are running on adrenaline.
00:58:08This is week one.
00:58:09This is our first space
00:58:10that's going to get judged.
00:58:11How's upstairs look?
00:58:13It's coming together.
00:58:14It's going to look good
00:58:15if we finish.
00:58:17I'm just paranoid
00:58:19of finishing now.
00:58:21We're starting
00:58:22the winging process.
00:58:25I am a winger
00:58:26to my core.
00:58:27Maybe it would look better
00:58:29if I took more time,
00:58:30but we adjust
00:58:31the furniture accordingly.
00:58:32We can slide it over.
00:58:33I love it.
00:58:34We'll center it.
00:58:35A lot of fish.
00:58:37Running out of time.
00:58:39Running out of hope.
00:58:42Running out of dreams.
00:58:43You guys think
00:58:44we got a chance
00:58:45at winning this one?
00:58:46We hope so.
00:58:47Hope so.
00:58:4830 minutes left, guys.
00:58:50Woo!
00:58:51We got to hurry up
00:58:52in no time.
00:58:54Yep.
00:58:55Staircase Acrobats
00:58:56by Mika.
00:58:58Squeaky clean, baby.
00:59:00It's all fun and games
00:59:01until they say
00:59:02judges are coming.
00:59:03Or to hang
00:59:03in this picture
00:59:04in a time crunch.
00:59:05Yeah, exactly.
00:59:06I'm struggling over here.
00:59:08There's a time crunch
00:59:09and extra stress.
00:59:11I am struggling
00:59:12to hang this wall art.
00:59:14Ah!
00:59:15A lot of pressure
00:59:16to hang wall art
00:59:17when there's pressure.
00:59:25This is literally
00:59:26the largest hookup.
00:59:30Drapes are so complicated.
00:59:33I feel like
00:59:34I should move this.
00:59:35Woo!
00:59:37Babe, we got
00:59:3810 minutes left.
00:59:39It won't go in.
00:59:40It's not enough.
00:59:42And that's the longest
00:59:43that they can't.
00:59:44I need the pole extension.
00:59:46Where is it?
00:59:47At the warehouse
00:59:48tagged as
00:59:49we don't want.
00:59:50Well, that's not helpful.
00:59:51That shouldn't have
00:59:52gone to the
00:59:53do not want
00:59:54because you needed it.
00:59:57I've been making
00:59:57a call for your life
00:59:59to see what you can get.
01:00:00Okay.
01:00:09Let's figure this out.
01:00:11You have a whole
01:00:12other rod set.
01:00:13Yeah, we do.
01:00:14Then just do a single here
01:00:15and then do one more
01:00:16single over that.
01:00:17Honestly, while we're
01:00:18doing all of this staging,
01:00:19it is very hectic.
01:00:20There's so much to do.
01:00:22I'm over here
01:00:23hanging curtain rods
01:00:24for way too long.
01:00:25I don't know
01:00:26if we're even
01:00:26going to finish in time.
01:00:27We can make it work.
01:00:38You're wall of fish
01:00:40have been mounted.
01:00:42Five minutes.
01:00:44Man, that's the fastest
01:00:45hour and a half
01:00:45of my life.
01:00:46Coming together,
01:00:47coming together.
01:00:52We got to stop
01:00:53in two minutes.
01:00:54Put that in the corner
01:00:56and I think that is
01:00:57all we have time for.
01:00:59You've got this.
01:00:59You've got that.
01:01:01I'll see you on the beach.
01:01:02See you.
01:01:02Good luck.
01:01:04See you soon.
01:01:06Babe, we got one minute.
01:01:13Five, four, three, two, one.
01:01:17My God.
01:01:19Rushed, rushed, rushed,
01:01:20but it's pretty pretty pretty.
01:01:30Come on in.
01:01:31Oh, yeah.
01:01:33Well rested.
01:01:34I don't know.
01:01:35They still look like
01:01:35they all love each other.
01:01:37Those aren't too dirty.
01:01:38Well, we're just getting started.
01:01:39Yeah?
01:01:40Yeah.
01:01:40Congratulations
01:01:41on finishing your first battle.
01:01:44Yeah.
01:01:46With your first room finish,
01:01:48it's time to bring in our judges.
01:01:51Yes.
01:01:52You know them
01:01:53from their hit series,
01:01:55Renovation Aloha.
01:01:56They're not here to make friends.
01:01:58They're here to make waves.
01:02:01All the way from Hawaii,
01:02:03welcome Tristan and Kamahai Kalama.
01:02:06You better be ready.
01:02:14Good to see you guys.
01:02:16Welcome to Garden City, South Carolina.
01:02:19Yeah.
01:02:20You're part of the HGTV Ohana.
01:02:22Oh, yeah, we are.
01:02:23Yeah, we are.
01:02:24Let's go.
01:02:25Well, it's great to see you all.
01:02:27I can't wait to see
01:02:29what you've done
01:02:29with your living rooms.
01:02:30Mentors, please join your team.
01:02:33All right, gladly.
01:02:35We are here for you.
01:02:36I saved you a spot.
01:02:37All right, guys.
01:02:38Oh my goodness.
01:02:40I'm feeling good.
01:02:41You got this.
01:02:43So, Angelina and Steven,
01:02:45what has been the most challenging part
01:02:48of your first week on the beach?
01:02:50Don't say me.
01:02:51No.
01:02:52No, no, no.
01:02:53I guess it was trying to have realistic goals
01:02:57versus dreams.
01:02:58I'm a big dreamer,
01:02:59and I want a lot to happen,
01:03:00but we only have one week to do it,
01:03:02so that was the biggest challenge.
01:03:05I am a dreamer, too.
01:03:06I get that.
01:03:08What about you, Anna and Josiah?
01:03:10I think staying on budget.
01:03:12That budget doesn't go far.
01:03:13This is the first challenge,
01:03:14and we really got to make it last
01:03:16for the whole house.
01:03:17He can tell you I struggle with budget, too.
01:03:19All the time.
01:03:20I always have to reel her in.
01:03:23Lastly, my mother-daughter duo,
01:03:26Sydney and Michelle.
01:03:26I feel like we both love the design part,
01:03:29so, like, sharing that is hard,
01:03:31and we both have different design styles,
01:03:34so kind of combining those and...
01:03:37Yes, definitely.
01:03:38And communicating with her mentor
01:03:40has been a real struggle at times.
01:03:43This week was all about first impressions,
01:03:46and you had the opportunity for a big one
01:03:50with the living room, entryway, and the stairs.
01:03:53And that's an important set of spaces
01:03:55because the common areas are where people gather
01:03:58and spend the most time.
01:03:59When we evaluate your homes,
01:04:01we'll be looking at booking power,
01:04:04functionality, and design.
01:04:06After we assess your spaces,
01:04:09the winner of this week's living room battle
01:04:12will win $3,000 in cash.
01:04:15Yeah!
01:04:15Come on!
01:04:16Come on!
01:04:19That's a lot of money.
01:04:21Sydney and Michelle,
01:04:22we'll kick things off with your house.
01:04:24Let's do it!
01:04:25Fingers crossed, people!
01:04:27All right, look, guys.
01:04:29Welcome to our house!
01:04:34Look at how cute!
01:04:35I'm sure you guys have done some fishing in your day.
01:04:38Never on the ceiling.
01:04:39This is unexpected in a good way.
01:04:42But this, I am obsessed with.
01:04:46Like, obsessed.
01:04:47She loves picture walls.
01:04:49Oh, you do?
01:04:49Okay.
01:04:49This is our state fish.
01:04:51This is our state fish.
01:04:52Kumohomo nukunuku apua'a.
01:04:54Yes.
01:04:55Such a small name.
01:04:56I know.
01:04:56I would be the bloated, upside-down blowfish.
01:04:59That is hilarious.
01:05:00No, I think it's really fun.
01:05:01It ties to the fishing, right?
01:05:03It's very coastal.
01:05:04We're on the beach.
01:05:05Yeah.
01:05:05So let's check out the living room.
01:05:11Oh, my gosh.
01:05:13Look at how many people you could sit here.
01:05:15I know.
01:05:15It's massive.
01:05:16This was definitely not like this.
01:05:18I can imagine.
01:05:18Yeah.
01:05:19I like the amount of seating.
01:05:22We travel deep.
01:05:23Like, I think just the amount of grandkids is close to 20 at this point.
01:05:27Whoa.
01:05:28Yeah, so we need a lot of space.
01:05:30Well, this is what I really like.
01:05:32This isn't the largest space in the world.
01:05:35No, it's not.
01:05:35But they were able to fit so much seating in here, and it doesn't feel cluttered.
01:05:42And I love the fireplace.
01:05:44They installed the brick.
01:05:46You guys know how difficult it is.
01:05:48Yeah.
01:05:48It looks like it was meant to be in the space.
01:05:50Yeah.
01:05:50It looks great.
01:05:51I love how they whitewashed it a little, so it feels more traditional.
01:05:56I think that built-ins add a lot.
01:05:58Storage.
01:05:59Storage always adds value.
01:06:00It does look to your neighbor.
01:06:02That would be the only thing.
01:06:04So this blind might stay closed.
01:06:06Right.
01:06:06But from the right angle, from my angle, you can still see the other.
01:06:10They put in these beams.
01:06:12Yeah.
01:06:12The flooring kind of matches the color on the beams, which I like when there's cohesiveness
01:06:17and colorways get tied together.
01:06:19It feels very cohesive.
01:06:21It does.
01:06:22As far as finish goes, there's just tiny paint over here.
01:06:27And then I just see a gap in the beam.
01:06:29It does feel, I don't want to say old, but it kind of feels a little old.
01:06:36Mature coastal cottage.
01:06:37Mature.
01:06:37Well, it's got a little coastal grandma, grandpa going.
01:06:40There you go.
01:06:41Oh, you said it.
01:06:41You said it.
01:06:42It was mature, and then they teamed up with me.
01:06:44So you've got sort of immature meets mature.
01:06:47But that is big here.
01:06:49You've got to understand.
01:06:50Okay, okay.
01:06:50That is big here.
01:06:51The cool thing about this is it's not just a living room I'm showing you.
01:06:54Okay.
01:06:54We also have a staircase.
01:06:56Oh, let's check it out.
01:06:57Yeah.
01:06:57Yeah.
01:06:57Come on.
01:06:59So stairwell upstairs.
01:07:05Look at this wallpaper.
01:07:08They wanted to make sure they put in transoms to give it that old world ride.
01:07:11Did they put those in?
01:07:12They put the transoms in?
01:07:13Yeah.
01:07:13That is cool.
01:07:14I like that a lot.
01:07:15And they're specific to places here.
01:07:17I think it just gives that little bit of character that I almost expect in these homes.
01:07:23It also allows the natural light from the bedrooms to come into this space.
01:07:27That is impressive.
01:07:28I think it's a job well done.
01:07:30I really do.
01:07:31And I also like how this light, I think it's the same or if it's really similar to the one
01:07:36in the living room.
01:07:36One of the first things I noticed, it does feel a little bit empty up here.
01:07:42I think that they could have continued the wallpaper or maybe a light fixture over the stairs.
01:07:46Do something fun in the stairwell itself.
01:07:49Something over the stairwell.
01:07:50Yeah.
01:07:50It's darker, so it feels like it's closing the space off.
01:07:55I think we've seen enough.
01:07:56Okay.
01:07:57Why don't you go back down to the beach?
01:07:59All right.
01:07:59Will do.
01:08:00See you guys out there.
01:08:03Let's check it out.
01:08:04Come inside.
01:08:05Come on in.
01:08:06Ooh.
01:08:07Welcome home.
01:08:08It smells good in here.
01:08:10I mean, are you kidding me?
01:08:16It's so light.
01:08:17Yeah.
01:08:18Great.
01:08:19I absolutely love that.
01:08:20It's airy.
01:08:22We really had a lot of empty space in the living room.
01:08:25Okay.
01:08:26And we've tried to still make it feel cozy, conversational, but with a ton of seating that's flexible.
01:08:33This is a big, big couch.
01:08:35From a color palette, they really wanted just to feel serene.
01:08:40Baymaxed.
01:08:41Yes.
01:08:41Yeah.
01:08:41Yeah.
01:08:42This definitely gives you a coastal feel.
01:08:45I do wish that I saw some, like, pops of color on the wall.
01:08:50Okay.
01:08:51Like, an art that mimics, like, the blues that you put onto the couch.
01:08:56They went out and took all the photography themselves.
01:08:58No way.
01:08:59So I said, why are you exploring?
01:09:00I love the...
01:09:01Oh!
01:09:02I love that.
01:09:03I am noticing this light.
01:09:06I know I'm tall, but...
01:09:08I know.
01:09:08I was like, oh.
01:09:09I'm interested to see if I hit my head.
01:09:12I don't.
01:09:13Don't jump.
01:09:14I don't, but don't know if that would be the light fixture I would have chosen for the space.
01:09:20I don't know if it fits the overall vibe that they were going for.
01:09:23Almost modern, and that's not...
01:09:25There's this more coastal beach.
01:09:27Yeah, and I know you said seating, and I think you did the best with this space, but for the
01:09:33vacation rental market, we know we need seating.
01:09:36As much as possible.
01:09:38Okay.
01:09:39One of the things we did differently, we made this living room smaller.
01:09:44This whole wall is all new.
01:09:48Okay.
01:09:48So what we've done here is we put in the fireplace.
01:09:50So we really created a focal feature.
01:09:53I'm interested to see what's on the other side of this wall, because I want to make sure that the
01:09:59decision you made here makes sense.
01:10:09Wow.
01:10:10Wow.
01:10:12Okay.
01:10:13I think it was a good idea.
01:10:19This is a major value add.
01:10:22Adding a bedroom on the main floor, it's practical.
01:10:27We travel with both sets of parents all the time.
01:10:30All the time.
01:10:30Yeah, so do we.
01:10:31This would get used.
01:10:34And you have a little dry bar here.
01:10:36We tried to do a little dry bar so you could have a little coffee set up in the morning.
01:10:39So nice.
01:10:40And really feel private.
01:10:42Yep.
01:10:43Access to the outside is crucial, too.
01:10:46So you've added a whole nother bedroom.
01:10:49Now the question I have is, because you did that, the amount of people that are going to be in
01:10:56here, can the living room support that space?
01:10:58Yes.
01:11:00Without a shadow of a doubt.
01:11:02Very sure.
01:11:02She said yes.
01:11:03Yes.
01:11:04Yes.
01:11:04All right.
01:11:05Follow me.
01:11:07Oh, wow.
01:11:09Look at all this wall detail here.
01:11:11Yes.
01:11:15So she took the time to sort of map this all out.
01:11:19A little bit of personality.
01:11:21Yes.
01:11:21Yeah.
01:11:22I can see her label of love.
01:11:24So kudos to her.
01:11:26We did have shag carpet absolutely everywhere.
01:11:29That's crazy.
01:11:30By just pulling all of that up, that was a lot of our budget as well.
01:11:33This lighter palette on the floor, on the walls, it does make it feel new and fresh.
01:11:39Did notice a few craftsmanship issues.
01:11:44A few more hours in a day.
01:11:46Could have done it.
01:11:47Finishing, repainting one final coat would make a big difference.
01:11:50Yeah.
01:11:51All right.
01:11:51I think we've seen all the spaces.
01:11:53Sarah, you can head back down to the beach.
01:11:55We'll see you guys soon.
01:11:59Come on in.
01:12:01Welcome.
01:12:05Oh, wow.
01:12:07Welcome, welcome.
01:12:08The door that we just walked in was originally just windows.
01:12:12One of the big spins in this space was...
01:12:14What's the door?
01:12:15There was no access.
01:12:16No.
01:12:17And it's got to be impact.
01:12:18You know, we're on the beach.
01:12:18So hurricane impact glass.
01:12:20Yeah.
01:12:20Which raised the price a little bit.
01:12:22Yeah.
01:12:23But I feel like we gained some natural light and then we gained access to the outdoor patio.
01:12:27I think that's money very well spent.
01:12:30Very, very well spent.
01:12:33I like that they made art.
01:12:35It's wallpaper, but I say it's an art installation.
01:12:38I love the ceiling height.
01:12:40This is definitely coastal modern feel.
01:12:44Leaning more towards the modern aesthetic, which I absolutely love.
01:12:48It does feel more modern than the previous space that we looked at.
01:12:52Ah.
01:12:52I do like...
01:12:53I like it up.
01:12:54I do like this.
01:12:56It makes the space feel elevated for a fireplace room.
01:12:59The fireplace was here already and they just upgraded.
01:13:03Fireplace was here, but not functional.
01:13:04So they had to replace.
01:13:06Okay.
01:13:07And upgrade because it was very, very dated.
01:13:09Looking at the actual finish work, everything looks good.
01:13:13Well, there's some caulking right here.
01:13:15A little bit.
01:13:16These built-ins on the side, they put those in for sure.
01:13:20Yeah, I like the floating shelves.
01:13:20I would have loved to see if they could find a stain and stain these the same color as the
01:13:25floor.
01:13:25It would have been nice to kind of tie that together.
01:13:28We did save money because we actually kept the original floors.
01:13:32These are original.
01:13:34That was a smart move.
01:13:35It's like, you know, we could replace them, but why?
01:13:38I would have never thought that those were original.
01:13:40All right, yeah, maybe I shouldn't have told you all that.
01:13:41We didn't save money on the floors.
01:13:43No, they look good.
01:13:45Yep.
01:13:46I wish that there was, like, built-in seating, but with the HVAC, I can see how that would have
01:13:53caused issues.
01:13:53I mean, they still tried to put in some seats.
01:13:56They know that the main thing is how many people can you get in these houses?
01:14:01Heads and beds.
01:14:02Heads and beds.
01:14:03I do wish I think I saw another couch right here.
01:14:06And then I think those flipped over here.
01:14:08Okay, so that's an easy fix.
01:14:10Yeah.
01:14:11So a little flippy flip.
01:14:12Just a little flippy flip.
01:14:13I really like this guy.
01:14:15Yeah, reclaim wood here.
01:14:16We had to get real thrifty with how we spent the money.
01:14:19I love the reclaims feel of it, but I do think it is pretty chunky.
01:14:24I know you said that this took up a big chunk of the budget, and I get it.
01:14:29But aside from that, there aren't, like, a lot of other features in here.
01:14:34There is a couple more little things I want to show you.
01:14:37Let's see it.
01:14:38All right, follow me.
01:14:39Taking it to the next level.
01:14:41Let's go.
01:14:45A little coastal flare with the camera.
01:14:47Okay.
01:14:48We originally wanted to open all this up, but structurally didn't make sense.
01:14:51Offensive.
01:14:52So give a little bit more light.
01:14:54Give it a little bit of character.
01:14:55It's definitely interesting.
01:14:57Unexpected, and I dig it.
01:14:58I don't know about this.
01:15:00I'm like, is this cold?
01:15:01I don't know how safe it is.
01:15:03That's the only thing.
01:15:04Okay, all right.
01:15:05Fair enough.
01:15:05So this area was just a blank landing.
01:15:08The kitchenette, it services the three bedrooms up here.
01:15:12It's almost like the house technically almost has two kitchens now.
01:15:15She's looking at me because we love this idea.
01:15:19We're staying in a vacation rental right now.
01:15:21It has similar layout, and we kept having to go downstairs to get water.
01:15:27And Komohai's like, I'm not into these stairs.
01:15:30Yeah.
01:15:31But this totally solves that problem.
01:15:33The space for it is, like, uncanny.
01:15:36It's almost like this was meant to be here.
01:15:39Hits every checkbox.
01:15:41Yeah, 100%.
01:15:43And, you know, obviously it was kind of a money spend.
01:15:45Yeah.
01:15:46But I think it adds so much value, and it's so practical for what we literally just experienced
01:15:51last night.
01:15:52I can't wait to see what they do in the actual kitchen.
01:15:54I mean, I think we saw enough.
01:15:57Okay, you guys.
01:15:58Enjoy.
01:15:58There's a couple bottles of wine in there.
01:16:00I know you've got a long day today.
01:16:02Look, I'm holding the handrail.
01:16:04Yes, you are.
01:16:09Okay.
01:16:11Living rooms.
01:16:12First, we had ties.
01:16:14Because of the amount of thought and attention to detail you can tell they put into that
01:16:20space, it adds so much value.
01:16:22They're the only ones that put wood beams in.
01:16:25Wood treatment everywhere.
01:16:26They put brick on the fireplace.
01:16:28They painted the trim around the doors.
01:16:30The only downside that I can see to that space is it is very specific.
01:16:36I think you called it grandma.
01:16:39Vintage.
01:16:39I said vintage.
01:16:41Then we have Sarah's.
01:16:44The fact that they threw up a wall and added another bedroom.
01:16:48They created a bedroom out of nothing.
01:16:50And the living room actually still felt a decent size.
01:16:56It read more bland than I think that they were hoping for.
01:17:00A pop of color on the wall would have really brought their aesthetic more to life.
01:17:06Last, we had Mika's.
01:17:09I think the only thing I would have liked to see in that space is maybe the wallpaper running
01:17:14along the whole wall.
01:17:17Yeah.
01:17:17That one felt the most modern, I would say.
01:17:21Definitely.
01:17:21But I don't feel like anything captivated me to the point where I'm just like, wow.
01:17:26I think we both know who the winner is.
01:17:32So we're in agreement?
01:17:33We are in agreement.
01:17:34Let's go tell them.
01:17:35Okay.
01:17:40Here come the judges!
01:17:43Yes!
01:17:46Let the judging commence.
01:17:48You all came out swinging, taking the living room in three unique directions for this week's
01:17:53build.
01:17:54You all should be super proud, but only one team, unfortunately, can walk away with this
01:17:59win.
01:18:01Sydney and Michelle, when I walked in, it felt cozy, it felt inviting, it felt livable.
01:18:08I literally told him, I can tell women were in here working their magic.
01:18:14The attention to detail, you guys were the only ones who threw beams up on the ceiling.
01:18:20I could tell that you were going for Coastal Cottage, and I immediately got it.
01:18:25I loved it.
01:18:27The only thing I would say is it could potentially be too specific.
01:18:32So if somebody was looking for a more modern space, that one wouldn't be the space for them.
01:18:40Yeah.
01:18:40Right.
01:18:41Angelina and Steven, your speed on the Surrey bikes earned you the right to pick your house.
01:18:47Are you happy with your choice?
01:18:49Oh, yeah.
01:18:50Oh, yeah.
01:18:51Walking into your guys' space, I immediately felt calm.
01:18:55I love that you committed to your choices of your design aesthetics, but one thing I would
01:19:02have loved to see is your art and that color spread more on the walls.
01:19:07I think it would have actually elevated your space even more.
01:19:11That being said, you did make a major change.
01:19:15You split the living room and added another bedroom.
01:19:20Wow.
01:19:21Like, what?
01:19:22To the room.
01:19:22Like, that's a seasoned move.
01:19:25Kudos to you guys on that.
01:19:27Yeah.
01:19:28Anna and Josiah, walking into your space, it felt the most modern.
01:19:34I love that I saw quartz on your fireplace.
01:19:37I love the floating shelves.
01:19:39I love that you tried to go bold with the wallpaper and making it an art installation.
01:19:45I may or may not have done bamboo wallpaper myself.
01:19:49The bamboo wallpaper.
01:19:49You were trying to be creative and that really shone through.
01:19:53With that said, I would have loved to see your artistic expression taken to another level.
01:20:00Yeah.
01:20:00Maybe that whole wall, having wallpaper, and then trying to maximize seating in that area.
01:20:07It did feel a little bit small in the space.
01:20:12But when I got to the top of your guys' stairs to see a wet bar installed there, I was
01:20:18like, what?
01:20:20On the level with all the bedrooms?
01:20:22I mean, genius.
01:20:24Genius.
01:20:25Yeah.
01:20:26Yeah, you could use a drink by the time you get to the top of the stairs.
01:20:29Yeah.
01:20:32Honestly, you guys, if these first spaces are any indication of how the rest of the competition is going to
01:20:37go, it's going to be a wild ride.
01:20:40Seriously.
01:20:40Seriously.
01:20:42We feel really good about our living room.
01:20:44We think the design turned out really pretty, and then, of course, we have our kitchenette on the landing, so
01:20:48I think that maybe should give us the win.
01:20:51You all started off really strong this week.
01:20:54It has been a wild ride.
01:20:56We have some stiff competition.
01:20:57To feel like we could walk away with this without any doubts in our minds, I think that's a little
01:21:05naive.
01:21:06But only one team can walk away with the $3,000 cash prize.
01:21:12Giving money away!
01:21:14Everybody's being really, really creative, but I'm proud of the room that we created.
01:21:18I think we thought outside the box.
01:21:19So the winner of this week's space is...
01:21:35You all started off really strong this week, but only one team can walk away with the $3,000 cash
01:21:44prize.
01:21:45So the winner of this week's space is...
01:21:57Angelina!
01:22:00Congratulations!
01:22:02Congratulations!
01:22:04You got it?
01:22:05Yes!
01:22:07We won!
01:22:08We got this!
01:22:09Yes!
01:22:10So exciting!
01:22:10Undefeated!
01:22:11I'm your friend!
01:22:12I'm your friend!
01:22:13I'm your friend!
01:22:14This win is very important because we've been going through our own situations, you know,
01:22:19from sleeping on other people's couches.
01:22:20So can I...
01:22:23It's okay.
01:22:24I'm okay.
01:22:28So this money would literally help us be, you know, more comfortable.
01:22:33This opportunity.
01:22:34One in a million.
01:22:35Yes.
01:22:35You don't get this opportunity.
01:22:37We need to keep this winning momentum going.
01:22:39Hey!
01:22:39Hey!
01:22:40Come on!
01:22:41Pretty disappointing.
01:22:43We were very proud of the living room.
01:22:45Well, you know what they say.
01:22:47When one becomes two, it's better.
01:22:50Oh.
01:22:51Do they say that?
01:22:52I think so.
01:22:52I don't know.
01:22:53I made that up.
01:22:54Let me try.
01:22:55We just go have a drink at our house later.
01:22:57Steven and Angelina did give us that house.
01:23:00We did the best we could with the house we got.
01:23:02Yep.
01:23:02Oh!
01:23:04I got it.
01:23:06Oh.
01:23:06Congratulations, you guys.
01:23:08You've won the living room battle.
01:23:10The amount of value you added by adding a bedroom is undeniable.
01:23:15That could be the difference in a family booking the space or not booking the space.
01:23:22We could not give you the win for that.
01:23:26It was a lot of work.
01:23:27I know.
01:23:28We had a lot of back and forth, but we did it.
01:23:31But you didn't think we flew all the way from Hawaii to give you $3,000, did you?
01:23:37This is a brand new battle and we're upping the ante.
01:23:42What?
01:23:43Now for the twist.
01:23:47Angelina and Steven, you have a very important decision to make.
01:23:52This is a game of high risk and high reward.
01:23:56You can walk away with your $3,000 cash prize now or...
01:24:01We'll double the amount and add it to the grand prize.
01:24:05Bringing the overall total to $56,000.
01:24:09That's a tough call.
01:24:11Oh my gosh.
01:24:13How confident are you that you have the skills to win this whole thing?
01:24:17Take a moment to discuss with your teammate.
01:24:20You guys have to...
01:24:20This is a you.
01:24:21This is not a mentor.
01:24:22I'm stepping away from this one.
01:24:25It's your decision.
01:24:26Are you willing to bet on yourselves?
01:24:34It's too early in the game to do that, so I'm gonna take that $3,000 right now.
01:24:38I think that's a smart move.
01:24:41I really do.
01:24:42Yeah.
01:24:42All right.
01:24:43Come and get your $3,000 cash prize.
01:24:45The pot stays at $50,000.
01:24:49Woo!
01:24:50Woo!
01:24:50Oh my God!
01:24:51You did it!
01:24:51You did it right?
01:24:53Yeah.
01:24:53Good job.
01:24:54Can you a dollar?
01:24:56Steven, can I take your jacket for you?
01:24:58Yeah.
01:24:58One day that'll be us, guys.
01:25:00One day?
01:25:00One day.
01:25:02Pretty disappointing.
01:25:03I feel like the living room we were very proud of.
01:25:06Yeah.
01:25:06It was a good room.
01:25:07Yeah.
01:25:08I'm losing my spark.
01:25:10I'm losing my...
01:25:11Is this a first round?
01:25:17Everyone is here to prove something.
01:25:19I was just like, we do all this prep work and we can't even put it in place.
01:25:22They want to win.
01:25:23This is a lot of money on the line.
01:25:25But they also have something to prove to themselves, to prove to their families.
01:25:30Oh, the walls are caving in.
01:25:32I'm just like, I don't know.
01:25:34I need a hug!
01:25:36What's going on?
01:25:37What happened?
01:25:38Bad morning.
01:25:39It could get worse or it could get better.
01:25:42Let me be part of the team.
01:25:44I'm stressed.
01:25:45I think what you're doing is fantastic.
01:25:48My creativity has been challenged.
01:25:51But I'm still confident that we got this.
01:25:55Am I providing marriage counseling too here in this mentorship role?
