00:00The big thing that they were told, and it was a non-negotiable, they needed tax breaks on those servers,
00:07the equipment inside of the data center.
00:10And again, that is because, let me say it for the people in the back, the GPUs, the chips inside
00:17the data center, are the most expensive part of a data center built.
00:21And some states have had these tax breaks where you will pay no sales tax on any of the GPUs.
00:27We were talking a million GPUs, probably $30,000 apiece, right?
00:33That's a lot of tax dollars.
00:34And so the non-negotiable for Meta was, we need a sales tax break on data center equipment.
00:42And why was that so challenging?
00:44They had to find a way to make it happen.
00:46Well, this wasn't a year in which they could rewrite tax law.
00:52So they had to figure out a creative solution.
00:56So what did they do?
00:57They found this rural broadband bill, a bill that was going to be passed at the state level to bring
01:04Internet access to rural parts of the state.
01:08And in many people's tellings, they hijacked it.
