US President Donald Trump has announced a $700 million investment package aimed at boosting the American coal industry as energy prices continue to rise. Using emergency powers under the Defense Production Act, the administration plans to support existing coal mines and power plants while funding new facilities and export infrastructure. Trump said the investment will protect 14 coal plants and 42 coal mines, while also supporting the construction of two new coal plants and a major export terminal. He argued the move will strengthen energy security, create thousands of jobs, and help reduce costs for consumers amid rising global energy prices.

00:00As a result of the $700 million investment that I'm announcing today, we will protect
00:0614 coal plants and 42 coal mines. It's a tremendous number. And build two new coal plants and one
00:14massive new export terminal because we're exporting coal. Coal's a great business,
00:21really a big business. And it's real power. In terms of power, there's really nothing like it.
00:30You have so many different alternatives. They talk about some, but there's no real alternative.
00:36China, by the way, last year built 52 coal plants. They built about two windmills. You know,
00:43the only time they build a windmill is when they're trying to sell them to stupid people
00:47from the United States, the suckers. And by the way, and all over Europe, they sell the
00:54windmills, but they don't use them. I wonder why. They use coal plants and other things.
00:59These actions will support over 14,000 jobs and save the American people $50 billion in
01:06electricity costs. We're pleased to be joined by Secretary of the Interior, Doug Bergman.
