Luis Garzan.
00:33Good morning. Welcome po sa Rise in Shine, Pilipinas. Fr. Luis.
00:37Good morning. Good morning. Thank you for having me.
00:39And thank you for joining us.
00:40Can you tell us, Fr., about the Renium Christy Programs Philippines and the mission as a Catholic social-civic formation
00:48organization?
00:49Yes, thank you so much.
00:50Renium Christy is really a spiritual family within the Catholic Church composed of different communities,
00:57priests like me.
00:59There is consecrated men, consecrated women, and the lay people that want to participate in our mission and our spirituality.
01:07So we're in the business of helping people to go to heaven and helping ourselves to go to heaven.
01:13We know that we are all broken individuals, right?
01:16But we try hard.
01:17And that's essentially the idea.
01:20We help them come closer to Christ, learn about their faith, and then get engaged to really transform society and
01:28do good for other people.
01:29Okay.
01:31We understand that you have this mission.
01:34And we also want to know the different initiatives and programs under your Renium Christy Programs Philippines.
01:41Yes.
01:42Thank you very much.
01:44The idea is when you feel the need of people, and that's something I was born with, right?
01:51Because in my country, I'm Mexican, and I was exposed to many needs.
01:56So you begin to learn the needs of people, and you develop some sort of compassion, right?
02:03And I find that many Filipinos, all Filipinos, are tremendously generous.
02:08When they see a need, they go and try to help them out, right?
02:12So the things that we do is we provide meals for undernourished children.
02:19We do health programs.
02:21We also help the family develop and grow because at the end of the day, that's what we learn to
02:26be human beings,
02:28where we learn compassion, where we learn to be citizens of good, right?
02:32So those are the programs, essentially, that we do.
02:34We also do a lot of education.
02:37All right.
02:38And food and education for our families.
02:40How about in terms of health, about your medical missions?
02:44Yes, yes.
02:45So the program that we have been developing the last three, four years,
02:49it's mainly based on the idea that there are many doctors that really have this heart to help out people.
02:55So we bring them together to provide the needs of a community, an impoverished community.
03:01As you know, there is a social divide in this country, unfortunately.
03:04And many people, even if there are health initiatives and health possibilities, they simply don't avail of them.
03:11So we try to go to them and provide basic needs like consultation for other things that could be transformational.
03:19We provide prescription glasses, hearing aids.
03:24We do cancer screening for breast and cervical, and we help them in their pathway for solution to the problem.
03:31If we find them, we do urology, cardiology, etc.
03:35So we do three missions a year, serving about 1,500 people every year with all those needs.
03:41Always with an intent of doing some transformational interventions for people to really have something by which they can save
03:50their lives, essentially.
03:51Ang swerte naman naman natutulungan, 1,500 na every year.
03:55Imagine, may hearing aid, cancer screening, and among other medical missions.
04:00Well, we want to know, how do these initiatives on the ground, special and outreach missions, how do they operate?
04:09Tell us more.
04:09Yes.
04:10See, the secret here is to get volunteers.
04:14And what you do is you simply present the needs.
04:17And doctors are very caring.
04:19They do have this vocation, right, to help out.
04:22So we present the needs.
04:23We try to organize them.
04:24And they go to a community, of course, with the help also of the local authorities, because at the end
04:30of the day, that's what we need to do.
04:32And then we provide the services.
04:35So it's a simple operation.
04:36I mean, of course, simple.
04:38I say it lightly, right, because we move 100 volunteers and 500, 600 beneficiaries every time.
04:45So it's a complicated operation, but simple and logically, right?
04:50And that's the way we do.
04:51How do you choose the beneficiaries and conduct this?
04:54Well, we look at the communities because we go searching communities in the metro area, right, because that's where we
05:01can operate.
05:02And we look at the communities seeing their health situation, their socioeconomical situation, and what are the needs that they
05:10have, and why they cannot avail of services that normally are present.
05:14But as I said, there is this psychological social barrier many times, and they cannot go and cross that barrier.
05:21So we help them by going to them instead of asking them to come to us.
05:25Because they don't really want to go to other hospital institutions, mostly far-flung areas.
05:32They go to different far-flung areas because I understand some of these areas are not being able to be
05:37reached by different health institutions.
05:39Yes, I mean, it's normally urban areas within Metro Manila.
05:43I mean, of course, not only Metro Manila specifically.
05:47We also did a mission in Tanawan, we did a mission in Bataan, we did a mission in Baguio.
05:52But a lot of missions have been in the metro area.
05:55Metro Manila.
05:56Yes, but essentially closer to this place because that's where we operate.
06:01Okay, instead of proximity, like a vulnerable sector.
06:04Yes, because we move the doctors. The doctors are very generous and the health providers, right?
06:09Okay, so what are your future plans in order to expand the reach of these programs?
06:14Yes, well, of course, we will develop as much as we can have volunteers that can help us out, right?
06:22But what I would want is to really adopt communities and make sure that the health situation of that community
06:30improves substantially
06:32so that we can solve the problems.
06:34I'm going to tell you a story that I found myself.
06:37Okay.
06:37We do also evangelization missions and went to a community not very far where we operate, actually very close to
06:45BGC in Pineda.
06:47Okay.
06:47So I visited several houses and I found one person with a stroke.
06:53Three houses later, another person with a stroke.
06:56I'm serious, these are real numbers.
06:58Okay.
06:58Three houses later, another person with a stroke.
07:01And I said, this cannot be.
07:03It's because they don't eat well, because there are no health services.
07:07We need to do something for them, right?
07:10Yes.
07:10To provide them knowledge of how to treat themselves to avoid this problem.
07:14Because this is tremendously bad for them.
07:17Once you lose the dad or the mom because he got a stroke, the family just gets in a very
07:23bad situation.
07:24Okay.
07:25It's a call.
07:26There should be a call to action for that.
07:29Yes.
07:29And thank you so much for telling those stories.
07:31Lastly, how can the volunteers, donors, partners get involved in your initiatives?
07:36Well, we have, as I said, three initiatives, right?
07:40Feeding, medical missions, and the familia.
07:43So as volunteers or donors, how can we reach out to you?
07:47Yes.
07:48Well, we do have some websites and social media that people can reach out.
07:53So we're going to search in the ring?
07:55Yes.
07:55Yes.
07:55I think they are shown on the screen right now.
08:00So people can go there to participate as volunteers or donors, right?
08:06Because everything adds up and everything solves a problem.
08:10I mean, just imagine with 60 pesos, which is less than a cup of coffee, you can give a meal
08:17to a child.
08:17And that would transform his life forever because he will be able to finish school, go to college, and have
08:23a better life.
08:24So that's the call, right?
08:26For people to participate.
08:27Thank you for the initiative.
08:28Yes.
08:29Well, we thank you as well for sharing your advocacy and your mission here in the world.
08:33Yes, thank you.
08:34Please pray for us and I'll pray for you, okay?
08:36Thank you very much.
08:38God bless you all.
08:40Well, of that now, thank you so much, Fr. Luis Garza.
