00:00I don't have social life.
00:01Like right now, no social life.
00:04I know that I said se pasa rico soltera, you know,
00:07like single women have a lot of fun.
00:10And yeah, it's true, but not so much for me right now,
00:13because I'm just a busy bee.
00:19There's so much going on, and I'm
00:20preparing for my second tour, my second run in the US.
00:24I'm preparing for my performance at the World Cup,
00:27which I'm going to try not to suck at.
00:28And then I'm also preparing for my European residency,
00:3512 stadiums in Madrid.
00:38So there's a lot going on.
00:41And also my kids' everyday life.
00:43So yeah, right now, I don't think there's
00:45a lot of fun for me on my path.
00:50But yeah, I'm just enjoying this moment in time
00:54and enjoying my career, living it to its maximum.
00:57I've done this professionally 30 years already, and it feels to me like I'm just starting.
01:04Everything feels new always.
01:06I'm as excited as the first day or more, as passionate or more.
01:10I'm very inspired.
01:12I'm making a lot of new music, a lot of new collaborations, still on tour.
01:17We just did a stadium run in the US, and now I'm coming back.
01:21I'm going to be performing where most of the games are happening, same cities.
01:25So that's going to be interesting, you know, to have all that footballistic energy, sports,
01:32fans' energy kind of brought to my concerts as well.
01:35It's going to be a lot.
01:37I think there's going to be a real synergy there.
01:47I wanted to write something for this World Cup, and I knew that it had to have the secret ingredients,
01:53the old ingredients that a World Cup song needs.
01:56A great beat, energy, a strong message.
01:59It just happened, you know, it really flowed.
02:02It was very easy to come up with the melody, with the lyrics, the concept.
02:09And then obviously when I had Berna Boy recorded, that was like the cherry on top.
02:14I always wanted to do something with Berna, and I think that his voice just takes it to another level.
02:22The song is much more than a World Cup song. It's a message for every child who's been told
02:28that their dream is too big, and to remind us that every champion started out as a kid one day,
02:35who perhaps went through hardship and struggles, but there was someone always behind that child
02:42that believed in them, and that's why they didn't give up, and that's what we need to do as a
02:46society.
02:47We have to do the best we can to offer our kids with opportunities so they can achieve their goals
02:54in life, and that the opportunity, the one, the most valuable one is education.
03:00And that's why this song has been created not only for the World Cup, but for all of those kids
03:07who don't have access to quality education. And this is a very important World Cup because this one,
03:14it's going to serve as a platform for all those kids who don't have a voice, who don't have visibility.
03:20And at this time, when the world is so fractured and divided and the algorithm manipulates us all,
03:29I think it's a good time to come together and talk about the kids and put them at the center
03:34of the debate,
03:36and make them be the real protagonist here.
03:47It's crazy why I have this connection with football that seems unbreakable.
03:52My history with football goes back to 2006 when I performed at the first World Cup with Wycliffe,
04:00performed Hips Don't Lie, and then again on 2010, which is when I met the father of my kids who
04:09was
04:09playing during that World Cup. That's why I call my kids the Waka kids because they're, they,
04:15I think they were born because of that song. That song took me to the World Cup and the World
04:19Cup
04:19had an important impact in my life. And they were born, the best that has happened to me.
04:26And then on 2014, I was pregnant with my little one and all of my fans, like, they saw me
04:33perform
04:33and they're like, Shakira's pregnant. And I was like a month pregnant, like two months maximum,
04:37but they know me so well. So every World Cup does something really magical. And I think this one is
04:43going to be all about bringing people together in this very sensitive time, moment in time,
04:51socially and politically.
04:57I think motherhood makes you strong. I feel that the moment I became a mother,
05:03I, I saw life through a different perspective. They are true teachers, you know, I learned so
05:10much from them every day. When your world collapses and you have to get up and pay the bills and,
05:14and
05:15still provide for your family and still, you know, prepare breakfast and, and take your kids to school.
05:21And life needs to go on, needs to go on because you have the responsibility to watch after
05:28to human beings. Seeing my kids also overcome those difficulties, that also fills my heart.
05:36And understanding that only through hardship is when you realize who your true friends are.
05:42And when you realize that you have, you do have friends who are there for you when,
05:49through, through the bad times and the good times, then you rediscover life. You see life
05:54through a whole different lens, you know. Life is beautiful in spite of all the, the pain that we
06:01all go through, you know. Humans, it's just, this is what, it is what it is. Like, like they say,
06:08you know,
06:08this is life. Life is a bitch, but it's, it's so worth living at, you know.
06:17I always thought that I was weaker than what life proved me to be. Through those challenging moments,
06:24I discovered how resilient we all are. And I really, I truly admire so many women that,
06:31that just have to push forward every day, push forward through hardship or through whatever
06:36life throws at them. I think that us women, we just carry a world on our shoulders. I mean,
06:41we rebuilt Europe after the Second World War. We rule the world like Piazza says.
06:47And yeah, I mean, behind every experience in life, there's always
06:53a lesson that we learn. And we have to be grateful for, for all those lessons, even for the people
06:59that,
07:01that leave you with scars, because they just make us better. And what doesn't kill you makes you
07:09stronger? I'm not thinking of future partners. I'm just thinking of raising my kids, maybe when
07:15they're older or something. I don't know. Right now, I'm just so busy with my career and my life.
07:21Whenever, wherever, we're meant to be together. I'll be there and you'll be near. And that's the deal,
07:29my dear. I would say to that girl back in her 20s to enjoy more. I think like women, as
07:35time goes by,
07:36we just acquire this new confidence, you know? Even, even though we're, we don't look as perfect as in
07:42our 20s, but like somehow we accept the way we are, you know, and, and accept ourselves more. At
07:49least I've, I've seen that with my friends. I see that in me. So all those 20 year old girls,
07:55you know, out there who are like trying really hard, just, you know, just enjoy because it's
08:00beautiful to be, to just be yourself and accept who you are. When I started with the crossover in the
08:06US back then, the world was pretty closed up to the idea of Latin artists singing in English. And
08:13that was a whole like revolution in my life. You know, it was, uh, the crossover to the Anglo
08:19market. And at that time I had so much to prove, you know, I, I wanted to show what I
08:25was about, what,
08:26what Latinos were about, what, um, I had so much to say. Uh, and now I still have a lot
08:36to say,
08:36but I feel more at ease, you know, so those insecurities are gone. And now I just have
08:44this immense love for what I do.
08:52There were a lot of intellectual challenges for me because at the time I really didn't speak English
08:57as fluently as I do now. So I had to write my own songs in English and I used to
09:02do it with the
09:02rhyming dictionary and a thesaurus and, um, a Bob Dylan book. And, um, yeah, it was, it was a whole
09:13different time for artists, for Latin artists, for Spanish, for music in Spanish. And, um, there were
09:20no social, no social media. So I had to really, you know, talk the talk and walk the walk and,
09:27and, uh, and fight. I was very perseverant. So I remember that time as a time of challenges,
09:34but also amazing achievements, it was a real blessing to, to travel the world and,
09:43and be in touch with so many different cultures and sort of learn from those cultures too,
09:48which is what has shaped me as an artist and as a, as a person that I am today.
09:52So that was like kind of the door opening to a new universe for me.
10:03There were so many gatekeepers in the industry who were like, oh no, no, no, no,
10:08we're not going to play that song. Hips don't lie. That's going to be like, uh, that's what I mean.
10:15I mean, if you think about it, Hips don't lie has instruments typical from the Colombian
10:22folklore in there, you know, and that was such a big song for me in the U.S. It broke
10:29so many records,
10:30but at first there were so many people who were closed up to the idea of that song,
10:35even playing on American radio. And then La Tortura also was one of the first songs
10:39that actually played in Spanish on American radio. That was a whole different moment,
10:44a whole different era, you know, where Latin artists weren't taken as seriously as they are today.
10:50So I had a lot to demonstrate, you know, a lot of convincing to do, but it turned out great.
11:04That song was just so good. And I remember us in the studio, just like dancing to it and jumping
11:10and like celebrating because we knew the hate that we had. And I knew that for the people who
11:14understood the lyrics, um, they were going to click also in a different way, but, but it was just
11:22pure catharsis. You know, I really needed to write at that point and write about my feelings and what
11:27I was going through and, and not have any, um, censored, any banning in the lyrics of that song.
11:34So I just went for it and, and I think it was very therapeutic. I needed it. Like after,
11:39after that song came out and I wrote that song, I was like, I feel lighter, you know? And I
11:45feel like a
11:46lot of people, a lot of women who have been going through something similar, people who I run into
11:52in the streets or, you know, they, they were telling me how important that was for them. How,
11:57you know, sometimes we just need someone to speak for others or be the voice, be the voice of others.
12:03The human experience thrives on identification. We need to identify with each other. We need to feel
12:09that what you're going through is the same that I'm going through, you know, that is not so different,
12:13that we all go through pain and struggle and hardship. And, um, and we also have,
12:20enjoy the beauty of this life with these ups and downs, you know?
12:28It's been the best tour of my entire life. We've broken all the records. We played 14 shows in
12:35Mexico City on a stadium. We're going to play another 12 stadiums in, in Spain. We went to Latin America
12:41twice. We're going back to America twice. Um, there's still so much we're going to do. We're going
12:46to be playing Egypt at the pyramids. I had so many iconic places. I just played in Copacabana in front
12:52of two and a half million people, two and a half million people on the beach. That is insane. It
12:57was
12:57one of the craziest experiences of my career. And also when it's not summer, my kids come with me on
13:03tour. We have a traveling, uh, house with us. Like family comes with us, their friends come with us,
13:11teachers. Um, and so I think like, but they go back to school. So it's not like they're homeschooled,
13:18but we build this kind of balance around them, like their lives and mine that I think is working.
13:24I don't know how I do it, but I'm with them as much as I can. Uh, even when there's
13:29show days,
13:30like I'm with them in the morning, well, in the morning they study, then we, you know,
13:35have lunch, spend the afternoon, then I go get ready. Um, and then have dinner again,
13:43put them to sleep, uh, when there's no shows, you know? And so like, I always manage to be with
13:48them.
13:49And that's why I don't have any social life because I'm like, okay, my kids, the stage,
13:54my kids, the stage, you know, it's like, that's how I, that's how my life oscillates right now between
13:58them and, and, and my commitments. You know, there's just so much exciting stuff going on
14:04around this tour. This tour has just given me amazing moments on stage of just communion with me,
14:11with me, between my fans and me, that dialogue that doesn't stop between them and me. And it's
14:17showing me one more time and proving to me one more time that they're the best fans in the world.
14:21My fans have been there for me through the thick and thin, through the good and the bad times.
14:26They've been family to me. So every time I perform in front of them, I feel I'm surrounded by family,
14:31how they defend me, fight for me, accompany me, understand me, forgive my flaws,
14:37and, and just surround me with their love. I just feel that it's all worth it.
