00:09It looks like the conversation around DC's upcoming Green Lantern series, Lanterns, has
00:14finally started to calm down a bit because the creators have now addressed the controversy
00:18that came after the first trailer dropped.
00:21And honestly, that reaction was kind of expected because whenever a big comic property gets
00:26a new adaptation, especially something as iconic as Green Lantern, fans are going to have
00:31strong opinions.
00:33Some people were excited, some were confused, and a bunch of others felt like the show wasn't
00:37leaning enough into the classic mythology.
00:40But now that the showrunner has spoken about it, things are starting to make a little more
00:44sense.
00:45In an interview, Chris Mundy explained that the approach they're taking isn't about ignoring
00:50the comic roots, but more about blending them with a grounded, character-driven style.
00:54And that's actually pretty interesting, because HBO shows are known for focusing heavily on
00:59drama, relationships, and layered storytelling.
01:02So instead of jumping straight into big cosmic battles, they're starting with something more
01:07personal and grounded.
01:08Now, that doesn't mean the larger Green Lantern world won't be there, it just means they're
01:13building up to it in a slower, more detailed way.
01:16He also talked about how exciting it was to combine the rich Green Lantern mythology with
01:21the kind of storytelling HBO is known for.
01:23And because Green Lantern already has a massive universe filled with different core, emotional
01:29spectrums, and intergalactic politics, there's a lot they can explore over time.
01:33So even though the first trailer didn't show everything, it doesn't mean those elements
01:37are missing.
01:38It just means they're being saved for later.
01:40A lot of fans were also confused about the title, Lanterns, because it doesn't include the
01:45word green, which felt strange at first.
01:48But when you think about it, that choice might actually be intentional, because it opens the
01:52door to exploring other Lantern Corps in future seasons.
01:55So instead of limiting the story to just one group, the show could eventually expand into
02:00something much bigger, bringing in different colors and ideologies from the DC universe.
02:06Even in the first season, we already know that Sinestro is going to be involved, which
02:11is a big deal because he's such a key part of the Green Lantern lore.
02:14However, his connection to the Yellow Lantern Corps means the show isn't ignoring the larger
02:19mythology, it's just introducing it step by step.
02:23So while the marketing might have made things feel a bit grounded, the actual story seems
02:27like it will grow into something more expansive over time.
02:31Another important detail is that the show will follow Jon Stewart as he begins his journey,
02:36alongside Hal Jordan, as they investigate a mystery on Earth.
02:40That setup might sound simple, but it's actually a smart way to introduce audiences to the characters
02:46before diving into the bigger cosmic elements.
02:48If you start too big, it can feel overwhelming, but if you build up slowly, it makes those larger
02:54moments hit harder later on.
02:56Now when it comes to casting, Aaron Pierre stepping into the role of Jon Stewart is a huge
03:01moment for his career.
03:02He's been building his reputation for years, and this is easily his biggest role yet.
03:08But what's interesting is that this isn't his first time in the DC world, because he
03:12actually appeared in the series Krypton back in 2018, where he played Dev M.
03:17That detail has sparked some conversation because some fans are wondering if playing two different
03:23DC characters could be confusing.
03:25But honestly, that's not really a problem because it's something that's happened many times before.
03:30The DC universe, both in animation and live action, has a long history of actors taking
03:36on multiple roles, and it usually works out just fine.
03:40For example, Mark Hamill is widely known for voicing the Joker in animated projects, but
03:45he's also played other characters like Solomon Grundy and even appeared in live action as
03:50the Trickster.
03:51And then there's Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor in Smallville, but also voiced
03:56The Flash in the animated series.
03:58These are big, recognizable roles, and audiences still accepted them without any issues.
04:05Even in more recent examples, actors like Jason Momoa have moved from one major DC role
04:10to another, going from Aquaman to Lobo.
04:13And there are plenty of other names who have done the same, which shows that this kind of
04:17casting isn't unusual at all.
04:19So Aaron Pierre playing Dev M. in the past and now stepping into Jon Stewart's role shouldn't
04:25really be a concern.
04:26In fact, it might actually make things more interesting in the long run, especially if
04:31the DCU eventually explores the multiverse.
04:34If that happens, there's always a chance that different versions of characters could exist
04:38at the same time.
04:40Theoretically, Pierre could even return as Dev M. in some capacity while also playing Jon
04:45Stewart, which would add a unique layer to the storytelling.
04:48And because the DCU is still in its early stages, there's a lot of potential for it to expand
04:53in different directions.
04:55Projects like Superman, Peacemaker, and others have already started building that foundation,
04:59so Lanterns have a chance to add something new to the mix.
05:03But it also comes with pressure because of the initial backlash, which means the show needs
05:08to deliver a strong final product.
05:10At the same time, it's worth remembering that trailers don't always represent the full picture.
05:15Sometimes they focus on specific aspects of a story and leave out others to avoid spoilers.
05:21So even though the first look at Lanterns didn't show everything fans expected, future trailers
05:26could reveal more of the cosmic side and the larger Green Lantern mythology.
05:30Now, shifting gears a bit, it's interesting how both DC and Marvel are currently exploring
05:36deeper, more complex characters because it shows how superhero storytelling is evolving.
05:41And this is where things get really exciting on the Marvel side too, especially with rumors
05:46about characters like Azazel potentially appearing in upcoming MCU projects.
05:51There's been a bunch of speculation that Azazel could show up in something like Avengers
05:55Doomsday or even a Secret Wars style movie.
05:59And that actually makes a lot of sense because of his connection to different dimensions.
06:02He's not just another mutant, he's tied to the brimstone dimension, which gives him a unique
06:08role in larger, more cosmic, or multiversal stories.
06:12And then there's the casting rumor that Doc Ray Montgomery might play Azazel, which has
06:16caught a lot of attention.
06:18Even though nothing is confirmed, it's one of those ideas that people can easily picture
06:22because he has that intensity and presence needed for a character like Azazel.
06:27This isn't a simple villain role, it's someone who needs to feel unpredictable and slightly
06:32unsettling.
06:32If Marvel does decide to bring Azazel into the MCU, they could use him in a similar way
06:38to how DC is approaching lanterns, meaning they start small and then expand.
06:43Maybe he appears briefly at first, hinting at bigger plans, and then becomes more important
06:48in future projects.
06:49That kind of slow build-up tends to work really well because it keeps audiences engaged over
06:55time.
06:55And because the MCU is already moving toward bigger crossover events, characters like Azazel
07:01could play a key role in connecting different storylines.
07:05His ability to teleport and move between dimensions could make him a wild card in massive events
07:10like Avengers Doomsday or Secret Wars, where multiple realities and timelines might collide.
07:15So, when you look at everything together, it feels like both DC and Marvel are in this
07:21phase where they're trying to balance grounded storytelling with larger, more ambitious ideas.
07:26DC is doing it with lanterns by starting with a grounded mystery and slowly building toward
07:32cosmic elements, while Marvel could do something similar by introducing darker, more mysterious
07:37characters like Azazel into its expanding universe.
07:40And even though there's been some criticism and uncertainty, that's kind of part of the
07:46process because these universes are still evolving.
07:49Not every first impression is going to land perfectly, but what matters is how the final
07:54story comes together.
07:55Because at the end of the day, whether it's lanterns finding its footing or the MCU potentially
08:00bringing in someone like Azazel, there's a lot of potential on both sides.
08:04It's just a matter of execution, timing, and making sure the characters are given the depth
08:09they deserve.
08:11So even though things might feel a bit uncertain right now, there's still plenty to look forward
08:16to, and if these projects deliver on their ideas, they could end up being some of the most
08:21interesting additions to their respective universes.
