00:17da 10 a 24 anni, su tre livelli di prevenzione, di aderenza al trattamento e di lotta allo stigma
00:24e alla discriminazione nei confronti dell'HIV.
00:29La scelta di lavorare a Maciacos è perché negli ultimi anni è una delle contee con il più alto indice
00:37di infezioni d'HIV,
00:40quindi è stata una scelta dovuta a questi numeri che continuano a salire, quindi per questa ragione stiamo lavorando in
00:49questa contea
00:50che trovandosi alla periferia di Nairobi porta delle problematiche non indifferenti sia da un punto di vista sociale,
00:59da un punto di vista economico e anche da un punto di vista di salute, ovviamente.
01:09I link the community member with the hospital, we make referrals, when we find somebody sick in the community,
01:15we write a referral for the client to go to the hospital, we specify what the client is feeling,
01:21all the symptoms that he has or she has, then we refer to a certain person in the hospital
01:26that she can be, he or she can be checked on what is happening.
01:30When people in the community, there are people who won't have no information,
01:34so when we have the information in the community, then the people can have the information
01:38and access the hospital for their health.
01:41È un progetto che fin da subito è stato accolto molto bene, soprattutto a diversi livelli,
01:48sia ad un livello istituzionale di Ministro della Salute e della Contea,
01:53che fin da subito hanno aperto le porte a No One Out e agli altri partner e quindi al progetto,
02:02però poi soprattutto noi lavoriamo con la comunità, nel senso che le persone che lavorano insieme a noi,
02:10i counselor, gli educatori alla pari, i CHVs, gli insegnanti, sono tutte persone che vivono qua,
02:17tutte persone di Machacos che possono fare tramite il progetto qualcosa per i loro giovani
02:24e di conseguenza per la loro comunità, quindi fin da subito siamo stati supportati tantissimo.
02:29Il cangundo Hospital è un lato 4, il cangundo in Machacos County, cangundo, sub-county.
02:38The facility was officially opened in 1953 and it serves in a catchment population of 1,04-200,000.
03:00The peer mothers are in the community, so at times they default for medication,
03:06so we make a follow-up on their medication.
03:10And when we go to their homes, we see what they are doing, whether they are taking their medication well,
03:16whether they are giving their children medication, whether they are going for the PMTCT,
03:21whether they are going for the antenatal care clinic, we advise them.
03:25It's good for them to start the antenatal care clinic early so that they can be monitored on the growth
03:32of the child in the stomach.
03:33There are very many achievements in the community because many people have known that in the health facility,
03:38they'll get whatever they want, they'll get the information, and then those mothers, they can prevent their child from getting
03:45the HIV.
03:46The HIV question is yet to be known.
03:49People have a lot of stigma with the issue.
03:52People have not realized why the infection of HIV.
03:56Infection of HIV, most people say it is like witchcraft, like things like that.
04:04So many people have not decided this is real, and it is infected in several ways.
04:10It's not witchcraft. It is real.
04:15I work with adolescents who have 10 to 24 years.
04:19Most of the time, the adolescents come at their clinic on Thursdays.
04:25And after they come, we just sit maybe at the tent or we go there at the center and we
04:33start having a health talk with them,
04:35asking them about their viral load.
04:38Also, we talk to them, we ask them how the school it was, they tell us,
04:43they tell us their challenges of taking the medicine, if they have child challenge.
04:49And also, we pair the adolescents, who they are suppressed and they are not suppressed.
04:56Because you find their adolescents, who they are having high viral load, and they have a challenge.
05:02But when we talk to them, we find they cannot tell us their challenge.
05:08So we see it's good.
05:09We pair them with the adolescents, who they have low viral load, and who they have high viral load.
05:16So they can interchange the ideas, how they take their medicine positive.
05:21You know, there are some of adolescents, who they have not yet, they have not yet accepted their status about
05:32their positive.
05:33There are some of the adolescents, who they are like 10 to 10, 11, 12, they feel hard to accept
05:42their status.
05:43So we help them to accept their status.
05:47Also, I do go to trace the adolescents, who they have IVLs, even calling them to assist them to take
05:58their medicine in time.
05:59The challenge is, we have like drug and substance abuse, and we have made referrals to our addiction counsellor.
06:12So that, you know, when you are intoxicated, you are not in the right mental state.
06:18So they are forgetting their drugs.
06:22Like, our adolescents, they have been telling me that they are giving up.
06:30Others, disclosure was done late, so they have not yet accepted.
06:35They are still on denial.
06:36There are some of the adolescents who don't come to the clinic.
06:40When you ask them, they have no reason.
06:42So we shall go home to see what the problem it was.
06:47And then we assist them and we come to them to the clinic.
06:50C'è sicuramente sempre di più una crescita nella consapevolezza che l'HIV è una condizione in cui un essere
07:00umano si trova.
07:01Non è una malattia, non è un'infezione.
07:04È una condizione per cui, per diverse ragioni, ognuno di noi potrebbe trovarsi oggi, ieri o un domani a vivere.
07:12Questo sento che in Kenya, in queste con te, molto attente alla questione, sta crescendo sempre di più questa consapevolezza.
07:22Sta crescendo sempre di più la consapevolezza, che è quello su cui noi spingiamo tanto,
07:26che il fatto di essere, di comportarsi aderendo al trattamento, quindi stando attenta alla propria nutrizione, al proprio stile di
07:36vita,
07:36fa sì che le persone possano mantenere una vita come tutti gli altri.
07:41Questo per esempio, secondo me, è qualcosa che anche in Italia non è sempre ben chiaro.
07:46Quindi sicuramente questa è una bella consapevolezza che ci tengo a sottolineare,
07:51perché parliamo sempre delle cose negative, però ecco invece qui c'è e cavalchiamo questa onda.
