00:00Twitter has seen a year of record layoffs for the company, leaving countless tech workers out of a job.
00:05But apparently it wasn't only the company's coders and other critical engineers who were fired.
00:10They also let much of their New York office's janitorial team go, and now they're suing.
00:15According to The Guardian, the issue stems from the Displaced Building Service Workers Protection Act.
00:20The rule forces new tenants of buildings to keep service staff like custodians for a 90-day period.
00:25After that time, if their work has been good, they are to keep the staff on payroll.
00:28However, just 53 days after Musk's Twitter takeover, just days before Christmas, Twitter's building janitors were fired,
00:35which the lawsuit claims was in violation of the Displaced Building Service Workers Protection Act, meaning they're now owed thousands
00:42in back pay.
00:43Insider reported that shortly after the janitors were fired, Twitter staff saw cockroaches in their offices and experienced a toilet
00:49paper shortage.
00:50The company then hired a new cleaning contractor in February, which seems to indicate not only did they fire 11
00:56janitors,
00:56some of whom had been working there since 2015, but they didn't even replace them due to unsatisfactory performance,
01:02as they didn't replace them at all, at least not until issues were reported.
