00:00Lebanon on Monday announced a partial ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel,
00:05marking a limited de-escalation.
00:07Lebanon's embassy in Washington said the deal would not end the conflict in that country.
00:12Instead, it calls for Israel to halt strikes on Beirut and Hezbollah-controlled suburbs,
00:17while the Iran-aligned group halted its attacks on Israel.
00:21But hostilities continued into Monday evening.
00:23Israel said on Tuesday that it intercepted two projectiles fired into northern Israel.
00:29President Donald Trump said on Monday that Hezbollah,
00:32communicating through intermediaries, has pledged not to attack Israel.
00:36No U.S. president has ever spoken to the Washington-designated terrorist organization,
00:41with or without intermediaries.
00:43Trump also said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed
00:48to pull back any troops preparing to attack Beirut.
00:51However, Netanyahu said Israeli operations in southern Lebanon would continue,
00:56with forces pushing deeper into the region.
00:59A Hezbollah lawmaker said the group would support a full ceasefire,
01:03but only if Israel withdraws its troops.
01:06Lebanon said it would push to expand the agreement during talks in Washington on Wednesday,
01:11as diplomats try to revive broader efforts to end the three-month war,
01:15which remains closely tied to tensions between Washington and Tehran.
01:19The Israel-Hezbollah war erupted on March 2nd as an offshoot of the broader conflict
01:25and has been entangled with it ever since.
01:27Iran has insisted on a halt to Israeli attacks in Lebanon
01:31as a condition of any deal to end the war.
01:34While the U.S. has said the two conflicts are separate,
01:37oil prices broadly held steady early Tuesday,
01:40after sharp gains the day before amid uncertainty over the ceasefire.
01:44Iran has been a part of the war.
