La giornalista filippina: "Il premio uno shock. In due anni 10 mandati di arresto contro di me"
Trascrizione
00:00Do you think this will change things? Do you think people will start listening and will start looking at the
00:05story of the Philippines and taking it seriously? What might the impact of this award be on that?
00:10It's a shock. But the fact that a journalist from the Philippines and a journalist from Russia won the Nobel
00:18Peace Prize tells you about the state of the world today and the state of the Philippines.
00:24We knew why we were doing what we were doing. We understood the standards and ethics and the mission of
00:31journalism.
00:31And so when we came under attack, there wasn't really any other choice.
00:37The phrase we use is hold the line because you have to. Here's the line. On this side, you're good.
00:43On this side, you're evil.
00:44And we in Rappler decided that we were going to hold that line on the good.
00:50Look, in less than two years, the Philippine government has filed 10 arrest warrants against me.
00:59And it was pretty bleak at different times.
01:02But I really continued to believe that we need to continue shining the light.
01:08We need to continue doing accountability journalism in order to keep doing what we're doing.
01:14Rappler lives with the possibility of a shutdown on a daily basis.
01:18You know, we were on quicksand.
01:22And yet at the same time, if you keep the North Star ahead of you, you know, you protect the
01:28facts.
01:29You hold power to account.
01:32You exercise the rights that is in the Philippine Constitution.
