00:08For years now, the X-Men franchise has had a strange and uneven journey on the big screen.
00:13The original films like X-Men and X2 X-Men United helped launch the modern superhero
00:18movie era, and they introduced audiences to a bunch of iconic mutants.
00:23But as the franchise kept growing, it also ran into a big problem.
00:27There were simply too many characters to properly explore in one story.
00:32Because the X-Men universe is full of interesting mutants, the movies sometimes tried to squeeze
00:37in a lot of them at once.
00:38That sounds exciting in theory, but it often meant that several characters barely got any
00:43development.
00:44That issue became even more noticeable in later entries, especially when the films tried to
00:49juggle multiple timelines and storylines.
00:51While some characters like Wolverine or Professor X received tons of attention, others ended
00:57up appearing only briefly.
00:59A bunch of fan-favorite mutants were reduced to quick cameos or small supporting roles,
01:04which left many viewers feeling like the franchise wasn't using its full potential.
01:08That's one of the reasons why The New Mutants felt like such an interesting idea when it
01:13was first announced.
01:14Instead of focusing on the traditional X-Men team, the movie decided to highlight a smaller
01:19group of younger mutants who were still discovering their powers.
01:22Because it centered on a different team, it gave Marvel fans hope that some lesser-known
01:26characters would finally get the spotlight they deserved.
01:30The New Mutants also tried something slightly different in terms of tone.
01:34Although most X-Men movies leaned into traditional superhero action, this one experimented with
01:40horror elements.
01:41The story took place mostly inside a mysterious facility where a group of teenage mutants were
01:46being held while doctors studied their abilities.
01:49The film mixed psychological tension with supernatural themes, which made it feel unique compared to
01:55earlier entries.
01:56Unfortunately, the timing of the movie's release created a lot of challenges.
02:01Around the same period, the Walt Disney Company completed its acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
02:07Because of that major industry shift, the future of the X-Men franchise suddenly changed.
02:12Disney now owned the rights to the mutants, and the plan became to eventually integrate
02:17them into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
02:19That transition meant that several of Fox's final X-Men projects ended up in an awkward
02:25position.
02:26Both Dark Phoenix and the New Mutants were originally meant to continue the existing franchise, but
02:32once Disney took over, those films effectively became the final chapters of the Fox era.
02:37Because of delays and reshoots, the New Mutants didn't reach theaters until 2020, right in
02:43the middle of the pandemic era.
02:45Even though the movie struggled at the box office and received mixed reactions from critics,
02:50it still had a few elements that stood out in a positive way.
02:53One of the biggest highlights was the performance of Anya Taylor-Joy as Ileana Rasputin, also known
02:59as Magic.
03:00From the moment she appears on screen, Magic immediately feels different from the other characters.
03:05She's confident, sarcastic, and slightly intimidating, but there's also a deeper layer to her personality
03:12because she clearly carries a lot of emotional trauma.
03:15That mix of toughness and vulnerability made the character fascinating to watch, even though
03:20the film didn't fully explore her story.
03:23Magic also has an interesting connection to another well-known mutant, her brother, Colossus.
03:29Colossus appeared several times throughout the older X-Men movies, including X- The Last Stand,
03:34and X- Days of Future Past.
03:37Later on, the character returned in the comedic world of Deadpool and Deadpool 2.
03:41But while Colossus appeared multiple times across the franchise, Ileana Rasputin only showed
03:47up once in the New Mutants.
03:49That's surprising because Magic is actually one of the most powerful and complex mutants
03:54in Marvel Comics.
03:55She isn't just a fighter with superhuman abilities.
03:58She also has strong connections to Magic and other dimensions.
04:02In the film, Magic already possesses her mystical weapon known as the Soul Sword.
04:07Even though she's still a teenager, she wields that weapon with incredible confidence.
04:12The Soul Sword isn't just a regular sword, either.
04:15It's tied directly to her magical power, and it can damage supernatural or mystical threats.
04:20Her abilities don't stop there.
04:22Magic also has a connection to a dark dimension called Limbo, which allows her to teleport across
04:27space using Stepping Discs.
04:30That power alone makes her one of the most unique mutants in the entire Marvel Universe
04:34because she isn't limited to physical strength or energy blasts.
04:39Instead, she operates somewhere between mutant powers and pure magic.
04:43That blend of magic and mutant energy is exactly why the character would be perfect for the MCU's
04:49upcoming mutant saga.
04:51Marvel Studios has already explored mystical storytelling through characters like Doctor Strange and
04:56Scarlet Witch.
04:57But with Scarlet Witch currently missing after the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse
05:01of Madness, there's a noticeable gap when it comes to magical characters connected to
05:06the mutant world.
05:07Magic could easily fill that role because she naturally bridges both sides of the Marvel
05:12Universe.
05:12She's not just an X-Men member.
05:14However, she's also someone who understands mystical dimensions, demonic forces, and supernatural
05:19threats.
05:20Because of that, she could work alongside characters like Doctor Strange while also becoming a major
05:25figure among the mutants.
05:27That's why many fans believe Marvel Studios should seriously consider bringing Anya Taylor-Joy
05:32back as magic when the MCU finally introduces its rebooted X-Men team.
05:37Her performance in The New Mutants already showed how well she fits the role.
05:41Even though the movie itself had issues, Taylor-Joy's version of Ileana was confident, intimidating,
05:47and memorable.
05:49A lot of viewers even felt that she quietly became the standout character of the film.
05:54Whenever the story leaned into darker or scarier moments, magic often felt like the strongest
05:59presence in the room.
06:01She didn't act like someone waiting to be saved.
06:04Instead, she looked like a character who could easily lead her own story.
06:07That idea leads to another exciting possibility, a solo magic project within the mutant saga.
06:14While the X-Men movies usually focus on large teams, Marvel Studios has recently shown interest
06:19in exploring individual characters in more depth.
06:22A magic series or movie could dive into her time in Limbo, the origins of the Soul Sword,
06:28and the trauma that shaped her personality.
06:30Because her story includes demons, alternate dimensions, and mystical battles, a magic project
06:36could feel very different from typical superhero movies.
06:39It could blend fantasy and horror elements in a way that expands the MCU's tone even further.
06:45There's also an interesting theory that magic might appear earlier than expected, possibly
06:50in Avengers Doomsday.
06:52Since that movie is expected to deal with massive multiversal chaos and powerful villains, characters
06:58with reality-bending abilities might become extremely important.
07:01If someone like Doctor Doom is involved in that storyline, magical mutants could play a key
07:06role in stopping him.
07:08Doom is not only a technological genius, but also a powerful sorcerer.
07:12So someone like Magic would be a natural opponent for him.
07:16Another reason this idea works is because Magic's powers involve dimension hopping.
07:21Since she can open portals between worlds using her stepping disks, it would be easy for
07:26Marvel to explain how she arrives in the MCU's main timeline.
07:29She could literally step through a portal from another universe.
07:33That concept would allow Marvel to keep Anya Taylor-Joy's version of the character while
07:38still launching a brand new X-Men era.
07:40Instead of completely restarting everything, they could treat Magic as a bridge between the
07:45old Fox timeline and the MCU's mutant saga.
07:48And honestly, that might be the smartest approach.
07:51The Fox X-Men universe had a lot of flaws, but it also introduced some great performances.
07:56Magic was definitely one of them.
07:59Losing that version of the character entirely would feel like a missed opportunity.
08:03Because of her magical abilities, strong personality, and connection to multiple corners of the Marvel
08:09universe, Magic could become one of the most important mutants in the MCU moving forward.
08:15Whether she appears in the X-Men reboot, joins the Avengers during a massive battle, or leads
08:20her own solo project, the character has huge potential.
08:24So even though the new Mutants wasn't the perfect movie, it still gave fans something
08:28valuable, a glimpse of how powerful and compelling Magic could be on screen.
08:33And if Marvel Studios decides to bring her back for the mutant saga, they might finally unlock
08:38the full potential of one of Marvel's most fascinating characters.
