00:01Hi everyone! Welcome to this quick guide on how to use a breast pump effectively and
00:06comfortable. Whether you're new and you need a tutorial or just a quick
00:12refresher, I'm here to go through all the basics with you. I'm gonna be using
00:18this breast pump by Lansino. It's a manual breast pump but most of the
00:24things I say can also apply to an electric breast pump. Be sure to check
00:29your own model's manual first as there might be slight differences in the
00:34details. If you still need to purchase a breast pump, I'm putting this one in the
00:40description below so be sure to check it out. Well, first things first, let's start
00:47with clean hands. Make sure that you've cleaned your hands for at least 20
00:51seconds with warm water and soap. You want to avoid any germs getting into the milk
00:56or in any parts of the breast pump. Next, let's assemble our pump. I've already
01:04assembled most of the parts. Make sure everything screws together securely so
01:12that we have no leakage. Find a nice comfortable spot to sit, somewhere where
01:19you feel relaxed and where you can't be disturbed. Then, make sure that you also
01:26have some water nearby because pumping can make you quite thirsty. Now, put the
01:33flange, that's the part that goes over the breast, over your nipple. Make sure to
01:42create a nice and tight seal and that the nipple does not touch the sides. Then, simply
01:50start with some quick pumps like this. This is called stimulation mode and it
01:58stimulates the milk to come out. It also simulates the initial quick sucks of the baby.
02:15Once the milk starts to spray or flow, you can change to expression mode. These are longer and
02:23slower pumps, but it should still be comfortable. If it hurts, you might have the
02:31wrong size flange or the wrong settings on your pump. Pumping should never hurt and
02:41should always be comfortable. If you want to help get more milk out, you can lean
02:46slightly forward or you can massage your breast in small circular motions. You can
02:56also use a warm compress on your breast. This is called hands-on pumping and it can be
03:06quite effective. For maximum efficiency, you can also use a double pump to save time.
03:17Pumping should take about 15 to 20 minutes, but the best time is whatever works for you.
03:48You will notice that you are finished pumping once the flow starts to stop and your breast
03:55feels noticeably softer. Once you are done, simply stop pumping or switch off your electric
04:03pump. Remove the flange from your breast carefully, like this. And simply store the milk in a clean
04:14container or bottle and label it with a date. Then, take apart your pump and rinse all the parts
04:23that came into contact with the milk with cool water. Then, wash all the parts of your pump in its
04:31own
04:32dedicated basin, not in the sink to avoid germs. Wash it with soap and water and then let everything air
04:40dry on a clean dish towel. Don't use the dish towel to dry the parts. Just let it air dry.
04:48Make sure to
04:48sanitize everything for at least five minutes every day. You can do this by boiling or by using disposable
04:55microwave bags or by steaming. Well, that's really all there is to it. Practice it a couple of times and
05:04it will
05:04become second nature. If you're having trouble with let down, feel free to contact a lactation consultant
05:12and they'll help you further. I hope you found this video helpful. If you found it helpful or you have
