La passione dell'icona della pop art in un museo della Georgia
Trascrizione
00:00...come out of the movies and manifests itself in his collecting and in what he wore on a regular basis.
00:07Also with Big Buddy's...
00:08Here's the Holy Grail.
00:10A handwritten letter from Fritz to Andy.
00:14But imagine if there were 36 of those.
00:17And you would pick from those 36 which one...
00:22This is Warhol in the West, an exhibition here at the Booth Western Art Museum.
00:25And it tries to place all of Andy's Western art that he ever did, his love affair with the West,
00:30the clothing that he wore, the things that he collected.
00:33Put it all in context with his Western work, like this wonderful Elvis painting behind me.
00:38And all the things that he did, both films, paintings, prints, everything Western all in one place.
00:43Very well-known Native American artist.
00:45The New York Times called him the Picasso of Indian artists.
00:50And both he and Fritz, after they had their portrait museum homes...
00:54And when I came to the museum as the director and started researching this collection, this is what a long
01:00room like, it just came out of.
01:02So, is this body...
01:04And do these guys look like cowboys? Do you know?
01:06No.
01:08They look a little more cowboy here.
01:11But it's a crazy plot.
01:14There's a simulated rape scene in the middle of it.
01:17Which, when they filmed that at Old Tucson's career, but interestingly enough, he eventually does a series of gun pictures
01:24and knives, guns and knives.
01:27And so, you know, for a guy who'd been shot, and, you know, been declared dead at one point, every,
01:32you know, aspect to it.
01:34And so, some people would just sit there and stare at the camera like Dennis is doing.
01:38Others would twiddle their fingers or smoke a cigarette or, you know, whatever.
01:42And so, it was interesting to see how people reacted in this situation.
01:47When Andy does his portrait, he chooses to do him.
01:52Well, guess who's in there?
01:53Gina Autry and Roy Rogers.
01:57Right here on top.
01:59And this is his work.
02:00What we've always wanted to do with this body of work was get in one room at one time.
02:04And this is the only time we've ever been able to do it.
02:07And have the source material for each image.
02:11So, Picasso said,
02:13Amateur artist borrow.
02:15Master artist steal.
02:17It was a self-portrait in the series of 10 myths.
02:21Along with Santa Claus and Uncle Sam.
02:24The Wicked Witch of the West.
02:26How do you?
02:28Now, what a great thing I've ever seen working with Mount Andy.
02:31And...
