00:00sixth term as governor of vermont he joins us right oh okay you get that's a good you guys
00:06are happy with that all right uh he joins us right now as our miller light local legend it
00:12is governor phil scott governor good morning hey good morning thanks for being on with us you're
00:17very popular here at the marina in brattleboro have you ever have you ever been here i have i've
00:23had uh had lunch there a few times and uh it's a wonderful place uh but my fondest memory is
00:29uh
00:29going there with a guy named daryl pillsbury he was a representative in the in the house of
00:33representatives and uh he orchestrated a ride for me in an ampi car and we took off from the boat
00:40launch
00:40right there went out into the river so it was uh it was spectacular i mean if you've ever been
00:46in an
00:46ampi car i'd never had been but uh really really a lot of fun i don't even know what it
00:51is it's a car
00:53that goes on on the road and and then you can put it in the in the water as well
00:57and oh you have to
00:58trust that the doors are shut and everything and yeah our senator ted kennedy used to have one
01:09a plus um you can actually weigh in on a topic that came up earlier um because you're you're you're
01:18in you're you drive race cars correct you're you race cars okay um we were talking about what what
01:25is in is not an athlete is a race car driver is a nascar driver an athlete governor yes yes
01:32all right
01:33okay wiggie mego you don't believe that right respectfully i abstain from this conversation
01:40respectfully i will say no what you do you got giant balls i will give you that to go around
01:45a
01:45track at 200 miles an hour and know that you can crash into a wall i would not do that
01:50uh if you paid
01:51me 10 million dollars a year but no you're not they are not athletes how'd you start how'd you
01:56start doing that governor um young young age uh you know i grew up here in vermont in a blue
02:02collar
02:02town right next door and barry and there's a racetrack there a guy named ken squire you might know him
02:07he was a famous you know you own a bunch of radio stations up here um but he's also a
02:13speed cbs
02:14announcer did all the nascar races and so forth and uh he uh you know he kind of introduced us
02:21all
02:21to it and uh my mom was the biggest fan took us up there to the races when we were
02:26kids uh after my
02:27father passed away so it was uh it was great for me and uh took it off from there so
02:33i've always had
02:34an interest in racing and uh and done a lot of it over the northeast and up into canada and
02:40and so
02:41the fourth three snowmobiles before that and motorcycles so um done it all you are you're the
02:47only republican governor currently serving in in new england and you are uh you announced yesterday
02:54you're going to go for a sixth term is it a two-year term here in vermont yeah yeah they
03:00torture you here
03:01it's like every two years so like in massachusetts uh i remember i was friendly with charlie baker and
03:08uh he was very popular there and uh i remember him talking about you know the national type of uh
03:14recognition he got and he said you know he got like a 71 approval rating he went home and told
03:20his wife
03:21he said uh he said 71 of the people you know they they they approve of what i'm doing you
03:27imagine that
03:28nationally i'm i'm i'm ranked number one in the nation and she said that's that's just a c he said
03:34she said you know not a big deal charlie uh maybe you can do better better next year
03:42well any we used to ask governor baker this all the time and do you have any designs on higher
03:48office
03:48would you ever run for would you ever run for president no no none of the above i had no
03:54i have
03:54no real interest in politics to be honest with you maybe that's what makes me uh somewhat successful
04:01i uh i was a busy in business for 35 years in the construction business and was complaining a lot
04:07about what they were doing to me in in the legislature and enough so i finally looked myself
04:12in the mirror and thought maybe i should be part of the solution instead of the problem maybe i should
04:17you know step up and run and knowing nothing about politics whatsoever hardly been in the state
04:22house at all and i ran for the state senate and uh took off from there and it's just been
04:28public
04:29service for me but i i really don't like the politics i like the policy i like to get things
04:33done and uh and build things and accomplish things when you meet up with bernie sanders does he pick up
04:40the tab no we don't do lunch much together but we get together you know i i've uh i find
04:48areas of
04:49agreement with anybody uh and and i think that that's important we we there's so much polarization
04:55and and uh across the country uh you know it's become so tribal uh that uh we can do better
05:02we should
05:02be we should be looking for ways to work together and uh there's always something something you have in
05:08common so um i work at that uh every day and and i think that uh that's that's going to
05:15be the
05:15downfall of uh of us here in in america and uh we just need to do better i notice in
05:23the release of
05:24the ufo files that there are an awful lot of sightings here in vermont and do you think that
05:29is because of marijuana i think it's because of bill lee uh to be honest with you you know
05:39bill lee bill lee ran against me in my first campaign for governor he did yes he did and
05:48he's a great guy i just saw him like a month ago he came into my coffee i have this
05:52coffee hour a week
05:53probably no other governor in the country does this but i open it up on thursdays we have coffee
05:58hour and uh anybody can come in um so he came down uh from crashford he lives up in the
06:04northeast
06:04kingdom here in vermont and uh he came down but i hadn't really seen him much since the campaign but
06:10he was highly entertaining it was just really fun his his campaign slogan uh was i'm so far left
06:17i'm right because the earth is round
06:23you know a guy that's on our radio station adam jones on middays is from up by the northeast kingdom
06:28he is he's one of the most famous vermonters i think on the boston media do you do enjoy adam
06:33jones
06:33and rich keep can you take him back
06:37we we will accept anybody here in vermont you know we're good we're here for everyone uh we is it
06:44we need is it accurate is it accurate the state capital is montpelier am i saying that correct
06:50yeah as a muscle yeah um and is it accurate that that is the only state capital in the united
06:57states
06:57without a mcdonald's it is true that is the fact that's because of the zoning here in montpelier
07:05um in montpelier is the smallest i think the smallest capital city in uh in the country we have
07:12there's like 8 000 people here well we have a little if you don't mind we have a little game
07:17that
07:17we play on road shows with uh jermaine wiggins and we'd love to have you go up against him it's
07:23truth
07:23or fraudulent truth or fraudulent about some vermont facts would you would you be willing to do that
07:29with us governor i i i'll give it a try sure all right let's hear it for him all right
07:33governor all
07:35right so you just have to you have to tell us whether this is truth or or fraudulent to use
07:40wiggy's word um and we you can go first sure i will i'm expecting the governor will get these right
07:46but um so truth or fraudulent there is an apple pie law here in vermont which legally requires a good
07:55faith effort be made to serve apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese is that wiggy wiggy is that
08:04is
08:04that truth or is that fraudulent uh that is a truth that is true yes yes governor what do you
08:11think
08:11well i i agree with him it's true it is true yes it is all right it is i take
08:17one slice of pie yeah i
08:18said i mentioned apple pie and cheddar cheese on the show one day yeah and uh these buffoons i work
08:25with we're talking about how old i am right we are all so consumed with being right we create a
08:31game
08:31just so greg can say look it happened and i deep dived it i'm like wow i didn't realize apple
08:35pie and
08:36cheddar cheese went together in certain places it sounds awful all right while they're it's better
08:40cheddar cheddar um governor uh governor and wiggy while there is no state law prohibiting public
08:50nudity in vermont brattleboro where we are this morning passed the dump them out law in 2002
09:00allowing residents to go topless in public that is that is true i feel like i saw that before
09:06somewhere all right through my deep dive uh governor is that truth or fraudulent there there that is
09:13truth that is not that is oh the governor now but i will say can you explain the vermont no
09:21nudity
09:22no nudity law in vermont exactly there's so there's no nudity law so you can be nude wherever you want
09:29whenever you want in vermont is that correct it was just yeah in fact it was just an area of
09:34disagreement in burlington uh in the last year or so and they now they've they've got a uh i think
09:40a
09:41a community law of some sort uh that prevents you know obscene behavior but yeah the nudity part is
09:48okay i guess so just to be clear uh and on the record are you wearing pants right now god
09:54holy hell
09:54that is truth okay yes tops off in vermont okay um from from 1777 to 1791 vermont was its own
10:12independent country truth or fraudulent ah that's fraudulent i don't believe that one bit governor
10:18truth it's truth that is truth yeah it was its own really yes own independent country who's the
10:25president right i don't know who the president right it was the republic all right um uh stick
10:32season by noah khan is the official state song of vermont that is fraudulent and i know he's from
10:39around here now he doesn't like me is that what he doesn't like he doesn't like you he said something
10:44bad about on the radio uh governor you you agree with wiggy that that is fraudulent yeah we we love
10:50the song but it's fraudulent what is the state song of vermont um there is i can't remember the name
10:56of
10:56it but uh it was one that was it was it was made by my students uh and it's just
11:03a great it's a great
11:04song but you know i'm not a musician so uh it's my downfall unlike ernie ernie and the mechanic
11:12ernie and the automatics yes yes um all right right or last yeah yeah automatics um last one
11:20here uh legendary red socks catcher carlton fisk we have his cousin here who's an officer of the law
11:26um and pudge's namesake and yes and curtis's dog uh was named for pudge fisk uh requested
11:34that his red socks hall of fame plaque be recast removing vermont as his place of birth
11:44is that truth or is that fraudulent that is fraudulent ain't no way he did that governor
11:50fraudulent that is true wow so wow um wiki and the governor tied yeah so um he was born bellows
12:01falls is that nearby here he was born of you right yeah he was born in the hospital at bellows
12:07falls
12:07because that was closest to where they lived in new hampshire um but he is a new hampshire guy
12:12no offense not a vermont guy so we asked them to change where you're born so i know i think
12:18carlton's
12:18wrong you know yeah you're right i would agree all right well listen thank you can we have a round
