00:24So, I mean, it wasn't an easy match today. Of course, I didn't really feel my best,
00:30but I don't really want to discredit her because she also plays really great tennis.
00:34So, I'm just happy to be in round three and hopefully I can just build more momentum
00:39and just build more confidence.
00:43Hi, Vicky. Well played.
00:45Just curious then, since you weren't feeling your best, how did you kind of get through it
00:49and what were you telling yourself to get over that?
00:51Yeah, I mean, I feel like I started the match, like, pretty solid.
00:55I mean, I feel like there was moments in the match where I was a bit, like, flat-footed
00:59and, you know, kind of spraying a lot of errors and just wasn't really feeling myself.
01:04But, you know, I think just trying to stay in there as much as I could with her was important
01:10to me.
01:11And, you know, finding the right moments to kind of come back and try to flip the score around.
01:16And, you know, I'm just really happy to get the win to be in the next round.
01:25I think you are done.
01:26I just wondered if you'd seen there have been reports that you're going to be playing doubles with Serena at
01:31Queen's.
01:31I just wondered if you had any comment on that.
01:34Yeah, well, you know, I'm very happy.
01:37You know, me and Serena have stayed in touch, which is really, really nice because, you know, I really look
01:43up to her.
01:44And, I mean, the fact that she even knows me is very, it's very exciting.
01:50But, you know, I think for me, I want to kind of let the moment for her.
01:55I feel like if she's ready to come back on her own terms, then I feel like it's up to
02:00her to announce that.
02:01But other than that, I can't really, I don't really have much to say.
02:06Yeah, I think the moment is all up to her.
02:09And when she's ready to come back, yeah, it's up to her.
02:15Sorry, I might not know this back story.
02:16You said you stayed in touch with Serena.
02:18When did you two first connect?
02:20Yeah, I mean, we sometimes, like, here and there.
02:23I mean, I know she's texted me.
02:26I mean, I can't really tell you the exact date.
02:28I don't know.
02:28But, I mean, it's really cool that she kind of follows with the results.
02:33And, yeah, then again, she knows who I am.
02:37So, I mean, I wouldn't say there's, I can't remember an exact date, but, like, quite a bit of time.
02:45Just like, hey, Vicky, I saw you on TV.
02:47I think you're really cool.
02:48Or what was the sort of first contact?
02:53I mean, I think some, a friend of a friend kind of told me that she knew, she watched my
03:02match or something.
03:04I mean, I also remember even, like, last year with Venus, she had watched my match in Montreal.
03:15So, I mean, yeah, I think those matches, like, when I'm playing some matches like that and she's able to
03:20kind of watch
03:21and I'm hearing from other people that she's watched my matches, which is pretty cool.
03:25What was your reaction when Serena Williams reached out to you in that way?
03:30What did that mean to you to have Serena reach out to you?
03:32Well, I mean, I looked up to her.
03:33She's my idol.
03:34So, I mean, it's really cool.
03:38Any questions?
03:39Thank you.
03:42Just what does it say about you that you're able to win matches when you're not feeling good?
03:47Yeah, I mean, I think it happens to the best of us.
03:50You know, I don't think every day it's going to, I'm going to have my best performance.
03:55But, I mean, I'm just happy to kind of have pulled it through.
03:59I just, yeah, I feel like what's important is that you have the opportunity to kind of improve yourself and
04:07be better the next round.
04:08So, I just feel really happy to have kind of pulled through and got through, like, the tough moments in
04:15the match.
04:16So, yeah.
04:21Was the news coming out in the last 24 hours, was it at all distracting or anything as you tried
04:27to prep for this match?
04:28Yeah, I mean, I don't really, I mean, especially during tournaments, I'm not really, like, on my phone a lot.
04:33I mean, I know I've had some people ask me, but, like, honestly, I was kind of focused for today.
04:40Like, I had a match late today.
04:43So, I'm not really on socials or I'm not really looking at a lot of stuff because I kind of
04:48want to just relax a little bit.
04:54Sorry, Serena, question for me.
04:56What's your earliest memory of Serena and, yeah, what do you remember about when you were younger following her?
05:01Yeah, well, I mean, I remember watching her, I mean, watching her on the U.S. Open at TV and
05:08then seeing her in person at, well, it's now the National Bank Open, but Rogers Cup.
05:13And, I mean, I feel like it was really hard not to like her because she won, like, everything.
05:18So, yeah, I think she was such a great role model and such an inspiration to so many young girls
05:25out there.
