Umami Stories: Pot Roast

The Roast of King Midas is a live-televised retirement roast for Silas Vane, the “world’s most loved billionaire,” that curdles into a public reckoning. What starts as softball jokes from comedians and allies turns brutal as each roaster exposes a piece of Silas’s empire—fraud, cover-ups, and human costs he buried behind NDAs and philanthropy. As the crowd’s WORTH IT METER plummets with every truth, the chat and arena shift from cheering to complicity. The final blow is an 11-second unredacted tape that plays to silence while the audience reacts with revulsion, his daughter walks out, and the meter dies. Left alone under a spotlight that feels like an oven, Silas is metaphorically reduced to a “pot roast” — seared by fame, slow-cooked by scrutiny, and falling apart with no one left to consume him — as the broadcast cuts and his myth is archived forever.
