Zuoz is a small Alpine village in the Upper Engadin valley in the canton of GraubĂĽnden, Switzerland. Sitting at an altitude of about 1,700 meters, it is known as one of the most beautiful and best-preserved villages in the Engadin region.
During winter, Zuoz transforms into a peaceful snow-covered mountain village surrounded by forests and high Alpine peaks. Unlike nearby luxury resorts such as St. Moritz, Zuoz offers a more authentic and quiet Swiss winter atmosphere, making it popular with families, photographers, and travelers looking for traditional Alpine scenery.
The historic center of Zuoz feels almost like an open-air museum. Narrow cobblestone streets wind between centuries-old Engadin houses, many decorated with carved wooden balconies and painted facades.
Some buildings date back hundreds of years, reflecting the village’s long history—Zuoz was first mentioned in documents around the 9th century and was once an important political center in the Upper Engadin. In winter, the thick stone houses, frozen fountains, and snow-covered roofs create a classic Swiss Alpine scene that attracts photographers and visitors exploring the Engadin region.
