00:00That was Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel speaking today for the first time since the NFL draft.
00:04Patriots start up their OTAs.
00:06They're one of eight teams starting those today.
00:09Peppered with some questions there by Mike Giardi.
00:11I'll say he's not, you know, I would have thought maybe a month ago, like, let's see how he's going
00:16to act.
00:16Mike Vrabel might be kind of moping around the place like Eeyore with everything that's been going on between him
00:21and Diana Rossini.
00:23Boy, he was his ball-busty self, I felt like.
00:27I don't think anything has really changed there.
00:28That was one of my main takeaways.
00:30He didn't feel shy.
00:30I was just going to ask you, what was the biggest thing to come out of that today for you?
00:33He didn't feel all that different to me.
00:35Okay.
00:36Anything else?
00:37Well, on the one end, sorry to contradict myself, while he didn't feel all that different to me in terms
00:42of confidence, ball-bustiness, that Mike Vrabel thing,
00:47he certainly wasn't as verbose as he used to be.
00:49Some things were pretty much quick and Belichickian in that, like, you're not going to be getting much on certain
00:56things.
00:56So if I were to say to you, what was the biggest news to come out of, like, the biggest
01:00stories to come out of that thing today, what would you say?
01:03Well, for me, it's that Christian Gonzalez isn't there.
01:05Okay.
01:06I mean, that's a number one for me.
01:07Hurley?
01:08I found him to be a little bit filibuster-y.
01:11It was 18 and a half minutes he was up there, and he made sure to control as much of
01:16that as possible.
01:17There was a question, sort of direct, about how he's managing family and all that, and it was kind of
01:23awkward where he says, I love my wife and kids, and it was kind of weird.
01:25But then it goes into, oh, we got 42 new players that weren't in the spring program last year, and
01:29when we do things a certain way, there's different rules.
01:31Like, for example, you have to do a jog through and blah, blah, and it was just sort of, you
01:35could tell he's trying to suck the air out of the room because the longer he talks, the fewer questions
01:39he's going to receive.
01:40Belichickian.
01:41Yeah.
01:41And it just, I think that kind of stinks because Mike Vrabel's entire appeal is that he's no nonsense.
01:46He'll look you in the eye.
01:47He'll be forthright, and he's in this position now where the less he says about any of that, the better
01:53for him, and I just think it sort of takes away some of that magic that you had.
01:57Whatever you want to call it last year where you're like, oh, this guy's the real deal.
02:00There's an element of, I don't want to call it hiding, but just avoiding and trying not to wade into
02:06that distraction.
02:06I think it kind of stinks.
