00:00The former BP chairman is hitting back after being fired only eight months into the job.
00:06Albert Manifold says it happened without warning or explanation and he plans to challenge the
00:13company's version of events. BP's board removed Manifold on Tuesday, citing serious concerns
00:19related to governance, standards, oversight and conduct. The company did not provide any
00:26further details and its shares initially tanked on the news. But people close to BP who requested
00:32anonymity told us they had been complaints of aggressive behavior toward employees as well as
00:38mishandling of sensitive information and on occasion seeking to bypass the board. But in an email
00:44statement, Manifold said, I dispute entirely the characterization of my conduct and I will not
00:51allow a false narrative to go unchallenged. His dismissal is the latest in a prolonged period
00:58of top leadership upheaval. Manifold was seen as an agent of change at BP, where activist investor
01:05Elliott Management has been pushing for the company to cut costs and refocus on oil and gas
01:11and away from unprofitable green investments. His removal raises fresh questions about the
01:17company's internal processes at a time when the new CEO Meg O'Neill attempts a turnaround.
