00:00How popular are these apps or similar ones in Taiwan? Are they widespread enough to pose a threat?
00:05There are various places for popularity. So for some apps like MapApps, they have some clear alternatives. But for some
00:18other apps with live streaming like Ike and BB, that has kind of the entire entertainment ecosystem behind it.
00:30So that's extremely popular for people who like to follow Chinese dramas or even follow the others. So I guess
00:39that's the status we see in Taiwan is that it's not just apps. It represents an entire ecosystem behind that.
00:48It's occupied the kind of niche here in Taiwan and it's obvious popular amount of different age groups and generations
00:56here.
00:57Do you think users are aware of the danger of using these apps?
01:01The apps, the way that terms and conditions are designed for Chinese apps, usually is not as clear as the
01:09other nations or as purposely makes it difficult for you to read what they actually collect their information.
01:18So I guess it's difficult for users to actually know how much data is actually accessed. And not to mention
01:28that if the apps has unclear specialties or unclear collections of data, which is also extremely common for Chinese mobile
01:41apps, then I guess most of the users are not aware.
01:45Are warnings like today's enough? Or do you think more limits are necessary?
01:50The government has the responsibility to raise the kind of awareness and warning about the risk associated with these apps.
02:01But in terms of jurisdiction, it's really difficult to take any kind of formal actions toward that, as we see
02:10from Gauder Maps or like previous year with Little Red Book, Xiaohongshu.
02:17So it's actually very challenging for going to formal legal pathway.
02:24So the rules of the government is raise a kind of awareness about make the peoples here aware of the
02:34risk they are taking.
02:35But fundamentally, they will be very challenging specifically for the streaming apps that they have entire entertainment ecosystem behind that.
02:45That will be very hard to do without apps if there is no other obvious alternative here.
