00:00Today, I'll be discussing a complaint that Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt is filing
00:05against incumbent Mayor Karen Bass. Pratt is alleging that Bass held a rally outside a ballot
00:12drop box, which is a violation of the rules against electioneering. You cannot campaign
00:17within a certain distance of a ballot drop-off box or a polling place, the idea being that
00:22politicians could intimidate voters who are simply on their way to exercise their rights and cast
00:28their secret ballots. The video of this event was actually posted to social media by Bass herself.
00:35We're going to bring this to home base and win, right? It shows her addressing a group of supporters,
00:40happily filling out and handing in their ballots, even a little group that she calls Babies for Bass.
00:45And it's rather harmless unless it becomes a symbol of how Bass might be ignoring rules in other areas.
00:52And remember that one of the allegations that Pratt is making against Bass in his campaign
00:57is that she is not paying any attention to corruption. She's not paying attention to
01:03the basic duties that she has as mayor. She's letting a lot of things slip through the cracks,
01:08and that's why LA is the way it is. Enforcing the law, enforcing the rules is part of his campaign
01:12message. Now, this complaint might not go anywhere. Most of these kinds of complaints don't. In fact,
01:18campaigns often routinely file complaints against each other in the closing days before an election,
01:22and even on election day itself, alleging a violation of this or that. It doesn't really
01:27move the needle. But in this case, it does reinforce a campaign message by Spencer Pratt that Karen Bass
01:33is too complacent to care about doing things the proper way.
